Update

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

My friend called me yesterday and let me know the chip times were added for the half marathon 2 weeks ago. My official time is 1:58:00. I still can’t believe I made it that fast but I’m also very proud of it.

Had a good workout this morning. I tried to do a reverse bicep curl using the preacher pad, figuring the doc said it would be Ok but the arm had a different idea. On my first curl I felt my bicep not feeling right and that should be the last time I try that. Got up and did the curls standing up and had no problems. I assume the isolation was a little too much. Everything has been going fine and I don’t feel like screwing it up now.

Race Results

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Had the race this morning, half marathon on Long Island New York. It was a fairly flat run and my clock time was 1:59:15 and a 9:06 pace. I came in 1176 out of 3154 people. I wanted to come in at least half minus one and wound up almost getting in the first third.
My goal was to get under 2 hours and I made that, didn’t think I could so I was pleasantly surprised. My Garmin watch had me at 1:58:06 and an 8:56 pace, that’s because it took me a minute to get to the starting line. I’m not gonna squabble over a minute because I still made it before the 2 hour mark. I’m gonna cut back on the length of my runs now because I don’t have another long run until September. I did enjoy it but don’t know how often I’d want to go this far.

I’m gonna sleep good tonight.

My run and softball

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Had my first softball game Friday night since I partially tore my bicep. I was a little apprehensive getting up the first time. Probably took to easy of a swing and weakly grounded out to short. By the second game I was feeling more comfortable and taking better swings and making better contact and got a few hits to show for it. The bicep is still not what it was but it’s good enough to swing a bat and golf clubs which I haven’t done yet but will soon. After the game the team went to a local watering hole and I had a few more than usual. First time since last summer the teams got back together so we had some catching up to do. I guess I was heavier than I thought because a few people remarked about my weight loss. From 212 to 192. Here I thought it was all muscle, obviously not though lol.

I have my first half marathon tomorrow so I’m taking it easy tonight and hoping to feel better tomorrow. I’m shooting for 2 hours but I think that’s a stretch. I found out there’s going to be about 5500 people so it should be a real logjam in the beginning. Really as long as I finish it will be quite an accomplishment and the only way I got started was when I tore my bicep and couldn’t lift for a few months and felt like I had to do something. I’m amazed as well as everyone who knows that I’m doing this, I never ran and smoked a pack a day for 20 some odd years. Heres to a healthy lifestyle and a successful run tomorrow.
