Half Marathon

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Well I was asked to run the Long Island half mile by my friend at work. I think I’m gonna go for it. I ran 7.5 miles today and I’m gonna try to add a half mile each week. The only problem is I don’t know if I want to run for that long. If I do this one I don’t know if I’ll do NYC later in the year. I seem to do OK around the hour mark but once I get to the hour and half I start thinking why am I doing this. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the hour runs it’s just once it gets longer I don’t enjoy it as much. I want to do 1 just to see how it is but it might 10ks after this.

Doctors Visit

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Went to see the doc today, it’s been 1 and1/2 months since my last visit. I walk into his office and he asks me how I’m doing so I tell him I think I’m doing pretty good but I’m always a little nervous when he does his test on me. He grabs my arm and tells me not to let him turn my hand. I feel my arm resisting more than it has since I started. I’m feeling pretty good and he says I’m doing great and he doesn’t know if I’m at the best I can get but he thinks it’s enough to play golf and softball next year. I’m gonna continue with the exercises to see if it will get stronger and he said I don’t need to come back for 2 months. He said the exercises I have been doing are fine (3 days a week full body workout) and he said I can start doing pushups, rows and anything else as long as my palms aren’t facing forward. He nixed chinups and pullups for good and I’ll only be able to do so much for curls also. Truth be told a part of me is a little depressed that I can’t throw up the big weight and actually get my left arm as big as it was but I’ll get over it and move on.

As for my running I’m still averaging 4 fast on Saturday and 7 on Sunday. I actually beat my best Sunday by averging 8:59 for the 7 miles. Got under the nine minute mark for the first time. My friend at work is getting runs ready for us and I think the NYC half marathon is a go in Sept.

That’s enough for now. I’ll try to update more often so I don’t get e-mailed asking me to write a post since it’s been too long since the last.

2008 Goals

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Happy New Years!

First time I’m going to actually right down some goals for the new year. Let’s see how many I can accomplish.

1- Strengthen my arm enough so I don’t have to visit the doc every month.

2- Get to about 185 (I’ll revise higher if the doc allows me to lift heavy. Wishful thinking though).

3- I’d like to add the 4 pack that’s in hiding from the 2 that show.

4- Get my waist to 33.

5- Run the NYC half marathon with my friend at work. (Central Park down the West Side Highway. I think about 14 miles.)

6- Look more defined in the upper body.

7- Add more muscle to my legs. (They’ve always been skinny.)

8-  Maintain my running.(Currently 3 times a week)

9- Take out the bicycle once the weather warms up and the days get longer.

10- Maintain my workouts or add another day.(Currently 3 days a week. )

I’m not going to put amounts I want to lift because it all depends on my arm but I’m hoping to make gains in everything except curls and back exercises which will put to much stress on my bicep and I don’t want another tear.

All of this depends on what the doc says but I think if I stay focused I should be able to reach or surpass all of these. Here’s to a happy and Healthy 2008. No more injuries! Doctor visit 1/15/08.

Peace All!

Gary
