I should have walked away…..

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

or at least requested another "membership consultant."  So I finally went with a large chain in the Orlando area but the part I’m kinda ticked about is giving credit to the chump that "sold" it to me.  I already walked into the place 98% sure I was joining but towards the end of the "sale" if it had not been for all the amenities, I would have been around 45%.  Hell I would have walked out if my friend who I was a member wasn’t already working out.

The entire pitch….because that’s what it was…..I kept thinking he was a cheesy car sales man.  What was really iritating was how he kept trying hard to make it look like he was personable with a bunch of the people working out there, especailly when they were working on a machine.  I come from the school of "leave me the hell alone" when I’m working out if we’re not working out together, especailly if I have a headset on.

I joined anyways, I just wish that the "sale" had gone to someone a little more genuine who realized that they didn’t have to "sale me."

That’s the minus side of joining a chain of gyms, a little more impersonable.  The big points are later hours and weekends, 10 times as much equipment, wet and dry saunas and a salt water pool.  So sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.

That’s my take and in the end, the place is what you make of it.

Have a good one,

Ben

Reaching the optimal burn point….

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

So I’ve finally reached that optimal burning state for my body.  Where I am doing the right about of physical activity (including gym time) and taking in the appropriate amount and type of food.  This has been a good week because almost every morning I wake up and I can notice a change in my waist line.  I keep getting leaner, which for now is what the plan is.  I’m going to try to keep from dropping below 190 but the goal first is to get as close to a 31 waist as possible and then work on getting my muscles to truely grow.
The first important change was changing my eating habits.  The other day for my cheat day, I was planned to eat several pieces of friend chicken, after the second piece my body forced me to stop what I was doing and turn to the leftover sandwich from lunch.  I haven’t stopped the small pieces of chocolate here and there but the main trouble with eating and the appropriate amount is under control.  I can’t even eat the same amount at one sitting that I use to, partly to always drinking water and snacking through out the day
For now, I’ve planned to work on leaning up until the end of February and then in March and April I’ll change up the entire routine to focus more on adding muscle.  That should have me all primed for our Florida summer months.
Well thanks for stopping by and making it this far down.  This sites rocks because it’s given me an outlet to focus and vent on one of the bigger parts of my life right now which is creating a new and bigger body!
Have a good one.

1.1%…..

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

I was freaking psyched today at the gym.  I literally walk in and ask if they have time to do the body fat counter:..and so they put me on it.  First off, I hadn’t changed literally straight from work and I had two 20 oz bottles of water sitting in me just waiting to burst out.  So I use the counter and I get a 25.7%, which was a .7% increase.  I was ticked and perplexed because I can see a difference in my body but here this electronic counter was telling me I gained fat.

So I go take care of business and change in the locker room and come back out and ask to try it again.  I ended up with 24.2%, and actual 1.1% decrease from about two weeks before.  I know for some of you body snobs out there that this is still considered fat but for me I was thrilled because to be honest I was a little relaxed in my routine last week and I did cheat on my diet.  You know a loaded Philly cheese steak with extra crispy fries shouldn’t be on anyone’s diet unless your cheating that day but I had no regrets enjoying that meal for lunch but one that I don’t plan on repeating anytime soon.  The next cheat is going to be Chinese food; you know the yummy unhealthy kind.

However I do realize my bf% loss could have been greater if I went just as hard the second week as I did the previous week and not cheated so much:.so the real plan is to stick to it better these two weeks.

Other than that I’m kinda in a danger zone at work because when I get stressed I unintentionally start to snack and don’t stop.  So I’m gonna do my best to keep my hand out of the “cookie jar.  The key thing is I acknowledge the challenge and now I’m gonna surround myself with fruit to help compensate, if I’m gonna snack it should at least be healthy.  That’s deal I’ve made with myself.

Let’s see how these weeks go.

Have a good one and thanks for the kind words,

Ben

Short and to the point….

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Well I already have a full blog on Yahoo!.  This one will be focused on my actual training and growth in the gym.  so I’ll keep it short and to the point.

This week will begining my new routine at the gym.  Now less cardio but quicker reps when lifting.  Going to see how my body responds to this type of session.  Been stuck in a rut using the "Bally’s" method and doing 20 minutes of cardio before lifting.  Instead will do 10 minutes of light cardio to get the blood flowing and then burn through the routine.  The take a day just of carido and no lifting.

Anypointers will be appreciated especially on supplements since right now I’m not on any.  Thanks.
