Now that I have started my long walk back to the gym, there is one area in my quest for muscle that has always fallen to the wayside and that is nutrition. Not just talking supplements I am talking proper nutrition. I was never the guy who could eat whatever and not gain weight… I just knew how to create an optical illusion… big arms, shoulders, chest and back… followed up with a weak core and mediocre legs; so seeing that I have a new life on the gym I want to be more complete this time around. I am willing to do the work in the gym and out of it. With that said where would be a website, person or book that I could start with?

Words of wisdom for those who have been made to feel inadequate in life…
Our Deepest Fear
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Serge Nubert
In my humble opinion…mass can sometimes be overrated. I think that symmetry like this hard to accomplish. He doesn’t have the mass that guys have today, but he had the chiseled definition that is timeless.

Got up this morning at 5am, brushed my fangs took my supplements and headed out the door to the gym on post. Drove up to the back gate and it was closed, so I turned around and headed to the main gate…roll through the gate with problem…got to the first gym and it was closed…until 8am, WTF??? No problem I’ll just go to the other gym on the other side of post…got there and it was also closed. Here I am tweaking from No-Xplode…driving around looking like a crack head trying to get a fix for my weight lifting habit… things got so desperate that I even tried to the local gym in town and they were also closed. At that point I gave up and said ” well I just lift in the garage…do a light workout”, think again; pulled up in the driveway open the door only to be met by my tools and debris from the previous floor tile project…at that point I said ok, ok…I’ll just wait until the gym opens. Next time I’ll just check the gym’s holiday hours and save myself the headache of driving around the place looking like I am trolling.

My down time from the gym is coming to an end and it is time to go back…can’t wait. The shoulder is still touch and go but i’ll work as hard as it allows me to. I am now down to 209lbs…still got a way to go. yeah I know…some people would kill for this weight…but it is hell on my body when i have to run for a PT test (ohh my knees and lower back) The plan is to have everything in balance…cardio, weight training, nutrition the whole package along with a few new tricks. Among the new beginings I will be moving on from Arizona in the spring and on to D.C…so if you know of any good gyms in the D.C area let me know. This also means that i will be more active with the blog and the progress photos. Anyway hope that you all have a great new year and may it bring you success in all that you do.

A few more days left…honestly I have decided to take a hiatus from the gym untill I get settle back at home; I am not in the mood to move the iron…can’t believe that I said that out loud. At this point I have no motivation to lift…along with that there are some areas of my workout that I need to retool…diet, supplements, workout plan, etc… things were not going along as I had hoped, but life happens. So for now I’ll be doing a lot of reading and resting of the old bones.
KEEP LIFTING

I may come off as being an a@*hole for saying this but sometimes it is best not to speak while I am abusing my body, if you do speak…don’t tell me that squats are bad for the knees and lowerback, or ask me why I dumbbell press heavy weight. Bother me with bulls@#t questions or statements like those and I will ignore you or tell you piss off. Look because a particular exercise didn’t work for you don’t assume that it won’t for someone else…all genetics are not the same or better yet check your form…ps that is what the mirrors are "really for." Understand that if my ear buds are in and the ipod is cranked up…I can’t hear you. If you want to work in on a machine cool just ask…don’t stand around looking over my shoulder, cause i will slow my workout down just to get rise out of you and you will have to to deal with it. Yes I hate it when people bs with equipment, but I just work around and get back to it later…standing there watching me workout will not make me go any faster. Don’t get mad if your girl looks iat me or if I look at her…trust me I don’t want her…I am too old to be chasing after some young chick…that and my wife will jack me up for having the thought. Tell you what…Have her look at the ground when she enters the gym and wear a burka…that will solve your insecurty problems…telling me won’t; cause I will say something to piss you off. Respect my space and I will respect yours. Lift Heavy!!

I am back after a much needed break…put in work today and the shoulder is a pain free so far. Did a total body routine today hitting of legs, back, shoulders and abs. It felt so good to be back in the gym, being hurt gave me time to rethink my training methods, the way I lift, exercises used, and weight used. Prior to getting hurt I would rush through my routines, I lifted so heavy that my wrists/elbows and shoulders would scream after a workout…talk about snap, crackle and pop. The plan is to use weight that I can move for the entire routine without stopping to let the target muscle group to rest. Here is today’s breakdown:
Total body:
Squats: 135×12/205×12/225×12
Lunges: 95×12/115×12/135×12
Side lunges: 95×12/115×12
Bent-over barbell row: 135×12 (3)
Close grip lat-pull down: 120×12 (3)
Up-right row: 85×12/105×12
Preacher curls: 85×12/95×12/105×12
Reverse curls: 70×12 (2)
Calf raise:110×12/130×12
Side raise: until failure
V-up with twist: until failure
Will let ya know how the shoulder feels after the next workout…keep lifting

Yep the shoulder injury put me on the sideline for a while…So I took some time off from the gym, got some meds to help with the pain and changed my routine and so far so good. Started running on the days that I am not lifting, getting in about 4 miles in less than 35 minutes…dropped couple of pounds and improved my overall fitness. It is hard to not lift heavy…It just does not seem right…it feels like cheating, but a man has to do what a man has to do…as much as it pains me that means lifting light.
