Rambling…

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Boredom is starting to creep in; not I my workouts but just be deployed…each day is the same as the last. I am tired of hearing of troops getting hurt or killed on a daily basis, just once can we get a report that reads: “No Losses, No Casualties.” It makes me thank GOD for each minute that I am allowed to draw breath, because your ticket can be punched at anytime here. I may not be the soldier out on patrol or the one kicking in the door not knowing what is on the other side, but I understand what they have to go through…It is a lot to ask of a person to do a job that just might get them killed…to those troops I salute you. Weightlifting is my escape from the madness that surrounds us…I keep thinking if I can make to the gym things will be a little better…just a little bit; that is why I get pissed when people try to take up my time with their nonsense or interrupt me when I am doing a session…don’t get me wrong I am not the biggest guy in the gym nor do I profess to move the most weight… just leave me be when I am enjoying the self inflected pain.

My workout partner is female…yes a female, but she is not prissy (NO OFFENSE TO PRISSY WOMEN) or should I say she is not that way while she is in the gym…yesterday we were doing triceps extension with cable machine and there are these guys doing everything possible to get her attention…so I am laughing because I know how much she hates to be interrupted while doing a session, so they start slamming the plates after each set of triceps pushdowns…now that get her even madder…I just ignored them…I didn’t say a word…after they did this about 3 times, she walks over to them looks at the weight they were using,  adjusted the weight about 20lbs higher and did 15 reps and walked back over to me and continued to workout. I looked over at them and smiled…they just picked up their gear and left the gym; I almost died laughing so hard.  Ahhhh yes the gym…what would I do without it. Here is what I did today:

(Use the ISO machine for these)
Bench press 5 reps 230lbs/ 5 reps 250lbs/ 1 rep 310lbs
Incline bench press 5 reps 230lbs/ 5 reps 250lbs
Shoulder Press 5 reps 250lbs/ 5 reps 270lbs
Shrugs 5 reps 290lbs/ 5 reps 310lbs
Leg extension 5 reps 90lbs/ 5 reps 100lbs (per leg)
Squats 5 reps 295lbs/ 5 reps 315lbs (smith machine)
Barbell row 5 reps 170lbs/ 5 reps 215lbs
Rows 5 reps 5 reps 110lbs/ 5 reps 120 lbs
Barbell curl 5 reps 105lbs/ 5 reps 125lbs
Hammer curls 5 reps 50lbs/ 5 reps 60lbs
Triceps push down 15 reps 120lbs/15 reps 150lbs
Triceps pull down 15 reps 120lbs/15 reps 140lbs

Have a great weekend!!!!!

Monday banger…ouch my toe!

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Banger of a workout this morning, everything was going good until I dropped a 45lb plate on my big toe…it is throbbing right now; I’ll have it checked out later. Here is today’s workout.

1: Close grip bench press:               4 sets 15 reps

2: Supinated close grip pull up:        4 sets 8 reps

3: Incline bench press:                     4 sets 15 reps

4: Unilateral Cable Rows:                4 sets 15 reps

5: Kneeling Cable Crunch               4 sets until failure

6: Dumbbell Oblique Crunch           4 sets until failure

7: V-Pike Raises       4 sets until failure

8: Reverse Crunch                          4 sets until failure

Start weight on 1 & 3 was 205lbs. After completing a set weight was increased by 20lbs. Weight on the Close grip pull ups was body weight plus a 35lb plate; after the first set increased weight by 10lbs. Weight on the Unilateral cable rows was 120lbs for each arm, and increased the weight by 10lbs for each set. The close grip bench press worked the chest/shoulder and triceps. The Supinated close grip pull up hit the upper back and biceps, Incline bench worked the chest, shoulders and triceps. Finally the Unilateral cable row worked the upper back. This workout allows me to hit more muscle groups with fewer exercises.  Alright time to get this toe looked at.

Weekend rollup

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Bench press              2 Sets             300lbs
Incline press               2 Sets             300lbs
Shoulder Shrug         2 Sets             290 lbs
Shoulder press          2 Sets             250lbs
Leg extensions          2 Sets             100lbs per leg
Seated calf raises     2 Sets             200lbs
Triceps extension      2 Sets             125lbs
Dips
        2 Sets             45lbs + body weight
Wide Lat pull down   2 Sets             213lbs
Bent over row            2 Sets             250lbs
Curl drag                    2 Sets             100lbs
Close grip pull-ups    2 Sets             45lbs+body weight

These are the number for today’s workout…it is near midnight here and I am still feeling it. Most of these exercises were done on machines, I started this blog last month at 225lbs, since then the weight has dropped to 218lbs that is about 1.75lbs per week, and without having to starve myself. One major obstacle to being deployed is trying to eat clean, it is not hard to do…the choices are limited. So the clothes are fitting looser, the gut is slowly disappearing; muscular endurance is improving, and I no longer have a workout partner. Not a bad month…except for the last part. New pictures coming soon, Have a great weekend.

Just sore…

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Today was a total body workout…So no trips to the gym or running this weekend. My body is sore and I love it!! This was today’s workout:

Barbell Bench: 1 set 200lbs/2 set 225lbs

Cable Flye:     1 set 60lbs/2 set 70 lbs

Seated Shoulder Barbell Press 1 set 95/2 set 115lbs

Front Raises:    1 set 45lbs (bar without weight) 2 set 65lbs

Barbell Row:    1 set 135lbs/2 set 185lbs

Pullover:           1 set 270lbs/2 set 290lbs

Barbell Curl:     1 set 85lbs/2 set 105lbs

Hammer Curls: 1 set 40lbs/2 set 50lbs

Squats:              1 set 225lbs/2 set 275lbs

Calf Raises:      1 set 120lbs/2 set 130lbs

Skull Crushers: 1 set 85lbs/2 set 95 lbs

Triceps Pushdown: 1 set 120lbs/2 set 140lbs

I did these with a max rep of 20 per exercise and with minimal rest between sets…oh the pain, grunted and sweated out each set…rep after rep…got some strange looks from the posers, but that did not phase me…kept pushing through with Monique my workout partner… grunting and sweating right next to me…cussing me out each time I called her out for using light weight or bad form…it was a good session; looking forward to taking the weekend off and lazing around the hooch.  Have a great weekend people.

Slowly But Surely…

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Another pain inducing workout completed this morning…still feeling legs from yesterday, went heavy on everything…was able to push 275lbs for 12 reps on squat; which is a personal best for now. Today was shoulders/triceps and abs. Moderate weight with high reps…still feeling the burn. Also dropped 2lbs this week…putting my current weight at 218; it is a slow process, but the scale is not the only indicator that I am using to monitor my weight loss…my uniforms are starting to fit looser.  Losing weight without sacrificing muscle is hard, but it can be done…just takes a bit longer to do. Also turned up the cardio this week…no tread mill, no elliptical and no stationary bike; just my workout partner and the road…and the occasional thought of why am I doing this again? (See last post)

Doing total body on Friday and nothing this weekend…there is a 10K, but I have to observe the behind the scenes activities so that I will know what to do when we sponsor an up coming fun run. It is going to interesting.
