Random Thoughts

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

During this morning’s workout I said to Monique (my workout partner) “You have to be some what narcissistic to be a body builder/ a fitness model/ or just to workout”. This is not a bad thing…only a small portion of people actually stick to the life style which in itself is lonely…but then again that is why we have BB.com. Like tarnagurl said in her blog: oops… so called friends…people don’t understand the life style. There are days that just being here gets to me or some idiot get decides to get on my bad side….and I really want to beat the living crap out of them ( HULK SMASH!!!!!) rather than do that I just hit the weights…the madder I am the heavier I lift…call it weight therapy. By the time I am done…I am done…the frustration, anger, sadness and loneliness is gone…two hours of therapy for free…where else can you get that type of fulfillment from? Where? Like I said in the before only special people choose to live this type of life… and I love it…I may never become a pro body builder, but I can say that I know what it is like to work hard everyday trying to improve yourself and the joy from seeing the results or hearing the comments (positive ones) from people.

There was a forum post about gyms changing their focus from the “Body Building” crowd to a more family oriented fitness…what kind of BS is that? It is  understood that business is business, but there was a time the only people found at gym were the body builders…alone or with a faithful partner…grunting, cursing, sweating, forcing out one more rep and slamming weights…they helped the very same establishments that are turning their backs on them stay a float…trust me no cardio bunny (treadmill/elliptical junkie) is getting up a 4 or 5 am to workout…most runners I know hit the  streets or trails…heck even here you can find these guys running in 100 + weather (don’t forget the bullets and rockets hazard). There is room for everyone at the gym; so do not exclude the next Mr/Ms Olympia from walking through the doors.

In my office damn near everyone hits the gym…guys who said that they would never pickup a dumbbell or do a squat…where do they sneak off to during the day? The gym…lunchtime hah…hit the gym and grab a to go plate from the mess hall and eat the desk… look over at someone’s computer and you will see them browsing the B.B.COM website either looking at the forums or learning more about supplements or just looking at the pictures. It seems like everyday a box stamped B.B.com comes in…talk about an addiction!!!! It feels good to be among people that share a unique love of the human body.

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Did chest, shoulders and triceps this morning felt great…added an extra set on each exercise….aaahhh feel the burn, but the pain is still in my feet. Also weighed in this morning and I am down another 2 lbs, but I think it just water weight. Well tomorrow is going to hard because it is a leg day…two days removes from a twelve mile march…did I mention that my dawgs are still hurting…can’t wait for these blisters to go away; oh well time to power down…see ya in the am.

Dancon 12 miler complete

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

Did the DANCON march this morning and my feet are killing me… I have blisters on my heels, they hurt like crazy. Walking 12 miles in boots is not something I recommend…at least it was for a good cause (Iraqi orphanage) Oh well back to lifting tomorrow.

7.2 Miles

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Ran 7.2 miles this morning, bringing my weekly total to 14.2; did at a 9 min pace (trust me this is slow) the plan is to keep the high mileage runs to at least twice a week. This will help with my weight lost goals and improve my overall cardiovascular endurance.

As I said in my last post, I have a 12 mile road march in the morning…Yep it is going to hurt coming off of the 7.2 miles today (what was I thinking)  Oh well another chance to sweat away some fat around the middle…any how wish me luck…will post the experience later ( maybe some pictures to)

Mile after mile…

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Had great work out this morning…still feeling it AHHHH the soreness. My workout partner is great…she motivates me by talking so much crap when I want to quit…but I give her hell too. For someone coming off shoulder surgery…she hasn’t skipped a beat, just dedicated to working out. Tomorrow and Sunday will be cardio days… 6.2 miles in the morning and on Sunday I’ll be doing the DANCON MARCH which is twelve miles (hope my knees hold up). I have plenty of mole skin for the blisters that I will acquire during the twelve miles of torture….can’t wait.

Cardio

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Did seven miles yesterday and feeling every mile of it…LOL, but worth the pain. I was surprised that my knees and lower back held-up as well as they did…considering all of the extra weight that i am carring on my gut!!! Anyway this afternoon is a upper body…can’t wait. Will be changing routine in a few days, i’ll be sure to post it this weekend.

Blog Entry

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Second day on the grind…worked legs/back/biceps it was good. Felt my legs give a little after hitting the squats and lunges, but they did not give out (thank goodness). I hit the scale and came up 3 pounds under the original weight entered on my page, must have dropped a few last week (did not weigh myself on Friday) I tried upload a few before pictures , but the network here is slow right …will try again later. Seeing how I look in the pictures, has given me more incentive to drop this weigh and keep it off…talk about looking bloated. Well tomorrow is cardio…5 miler in the am…this is going to hurt!! J

The Journey Has Begun

Monday, May 21st, 2007

I have been putting off doing this blog, because I will now held accountable for my lack progress in a open forum…nothing like peer pressure to make me perform. A little about me…For the first part of my military career, my job required lots of heavy lifting and without a strong upper body; you would not be able to move a 15 foot mast that weighed 100 pounds two hundred meters without passing out. Moving this type of equipment usually requires a two person lift, but sometimes your team would be short person, or a team mate could not handle the weight. After a move from Alaska I got stuck behind a desk…then slowly settled into a sedentary life style. A few attempts to get back to the “GRIND” failed (insert any and all excuses here) Why did I fail…I got lazy. Weight went up…waist line went out. Deployed to the desert last year (still here) and the weight went up some more. At my heaviest I weighed 230 pounds and I felt every pound of it in my knees and lower back; my gut poked out so far it felt like I was pregnant. The breaking point was when I got sick in April, and felt like I was having a heart attack and a stroke at the same time….I was diagnosed with acute bronchitis, not too serious but it made me re-evaluate my or all health situation. What was worst I had become the guy that we would laugh at during PT…The guy who couldn’t finish a two mile runs without taking a break every five steps. As of today I down five pounds with 35 pounds more to go. Acute bronchitis may not be seriously life threatening, but the tightness of the chest and in ability to breathe was enough to force me to make some life style changes. This morning I hit the gym early and hard for about 1hr 30 mins. I did the day 1 workout (see workouts) today and felt good at the end; tomorrow will be lower body. I hope to have the before pictures up before the end of the week.
