Are You Really a Personal Trainer....?
The gym I belong to...well...let's just say it's NOT a muscle-head gym...but more of a fitness center. And to be honest...for the most part people who work-out there are middle-age men/women who are generally in poor physical condition.
Today kinda took the cake with me...a woman came into the free-weights room and introduced herself. I intitally thought she was wanted to ask me some questions about fitness, weight-loss, training, etc...instead...she asked if the over-head music was okay and if I needed anything. I told her all was fine and since I get there at 04:30a and am usually the only one in the free-weight area I usually play my IPod over-head through the gym's sterero.
Still wondering who she was, I had to assume she was a new employee...maybe someone who is training to work the front desk...no big deal.
As I was leaving, she was at the front desk w/ the typcial front desk guy and I stopped to ask her if she is going to be opening up in the morning...especially since I need someone who will let me in at 04:30a and not make me wait until the official opening time of 05:00a. She proudly informed me that no, she was new personal trainer. Oblivously I looked surprised since she said, "you seemed surprised." Being politically correct, I just commented that I didn't know the other personal trainer had left. Before we finished talking...she offered her assistance with any of my training needs.
As I walked out the door I was thinking to myself...this woman is like 5'6" and likely weighs 175lbs...and she's the new personal trainer? Come on...I'm 5'11" and weigh 173lbs.
As I drove home...I was thinking that a personal trainer doesn't have to be 23yrs old, slim & sexy...well...okay...the not the age thing...but shouldn't a personal trainer be a shinning example of fitness? Moreover, I wondered why I or anyone else should take fitness advise from someone who is over-weight.
The new personal trainer may have a world of knowledge about fitness, nutrition & general healthy lifestyles it is abundantly clear that she doesn't practice it. I just can't get over the fact that she is at least 50lbs over-weight and she is going to advise clients. Go figure.
Ugh. Another one of those things that I cannot stand. How embarrassing for HER. She ought to be ashamed to even admit she's a personal trainer. This reminds me of the commercials in our area where the star claims to be a local grocery store's nutritional expert and she's obese. It ain't right. It just ain't right. Even obese individuals working in hospitals and other healthcare professions seem shameful to me. I'm getting to be such a fit snob! lol Good post!
gotta 'walk the talk' .. makes me realize how fortunately I am .. not only walks the talk, but knows, really knows, what she is talking about ..
