Worrying

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Aahhh I’m worried this week.  Not sure if I’m gonna make it for April competitions.  However, I do remember getting that feeling in my first round of competitions last November. I didn’t think it would be possible to lean down that much but I all happens in the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, I’ve been working really hard. Last week, I was doing 5 sets of everything.  It was great but my right hamstring is not happy with me.  I pulled my abductor on that leg and I know how it happened.  I was doing one-leg hamstring curls.  I like to work legs and arms individually because I find I’m much stronger on my right side.  Anyway, I started my work-out with 20 mins of HIITs on the eliptical and then I didn’t take the time to do some stretches before beginning my work out.  The gym was really busy and the mats where I normally stretch were fully occupied.  Tsk Tsk. Not going to make that mistake again! It’s important to stretch.  Ughhh  It’s too bad because it affected my whole work-out. That was on Wednesday.  Today I should be doing glutes, but instead I’m resting.

And worrying!  I don’t know if the legs will be ready for April.  But I’ll keep at it.

This week, I’m back to 3 sets.

Cheers!

Early results

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

I love working with weights because the results are quickly noticeable. Just feeling that hard little bicep pushing through my taught skin is enough inspiration to keep me going… and to get me out of bed at ungodly hours in the morning! I was at the gym at 5:40 a.m. today.  The best thing about the early hour is that it was quiet and I was able to monopolize lots of equipment without guilt. haha

I’m working with Derek of Scivation and he’s got me doing alternate sets working on alternate muscles.  He also has me on a different diet from what I did last year. It’s weird cause I’m not losing weight. Which of course, is a good thing but hard to get through my brain. With all the work, I guess I expect to see the scale lighten.  But this week, the scale remained the same (Led Zep anyone?) but the BF% went DOWN.  Derek tells me I lost half a pound of fat and gained half a pound of muscle. Woo hoo!

I guess the plan is working.  Will I be ready in early April?  I’ll do my best.  We’re definately making progress. Yippee.. Bring on the almonds and the avocadoes..

Setting goals

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

I’m both excited and frightened because I’ve mentioned to a few peeps that I’m competing in April. And you know, once you write down, or verbalize, or announce your goals, you have to commit. Yikes! But that’s why it’s important, not only, to set goals, but to talk about them. That will help you make them happen. Good friends of mine, a couple, dropped in this weekend looking for advice after they saw my profile on this site.  Although we keep in touch, we hadn’t seen each other in a while and they were stunned by my transformation.  I was more than happy to try to help.  I hope I managed to provide some good information. I know they will find lots of inspiration from all the good people on bb dot com. If nothing else, we had a great afternoon talking and catching up!

My advice to them was to write down their goal. No matter what it is - keep it realistic and achievable - but write it down and go for it. When you do achieve it, congratulate yourself (preferably not with a tub of hagen das!), and set a further goal.  There’s nothing to stop you.  We are all capable of extraordinary things.  Think positive thoughts and speak positive words.  And if you have a set-back, don’t freak out.  It’s normal.  Just pick yourself up and move on.

Hmmm sounds kinda dramatic. And now, I’m gonna go cook some eggs and get creative with chicken breasts! How many ways can I prep them up? Ughh I will try not to worry about April…I’m committed now, right?

Have a good week my friends.

10 Weeks to competition

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Alrighty, it’s time to get back to business.  I’ve had a few fun trips over the past weeks and haven’t beeng sticking to the diet very well and gym time has been sporadic.  But this week, I’m back on track as I expect to compete on April 4 and again on April 11.  Beast/Derek from Scivation is helping me out with diet and work-out plan. I like the diet. It includes grapefruit and blueberries, which I enjoy.  It also includes my favorite food: peanut butter and almonds.  Yay!

Yesterday I was in the gym working on back and chest. I felt great after and slept like a baby. Today, I worked out at home doing biceps/triceps and abs.  It’s nice working out at home with my own music.  The gym was so crowded yesterday, I couldn’t believe it.  What the heck!?!

So hopefully, we’ll see some results soon.  I really want to focus on legs and glutes.  And shoulders.  And back… and well everything needs work ! haha

New mantra: Ohmmm.. I love egg whites… I love chicken… I love spinach…. ;-)
