The night b4 competition

Friday, October 31st, 2008

I’m back from a week in San Francisco. Thanks for the good travel advice!  I ended up losing 2 pounds.  Eek!  Not good.  I was very careful and ate lots of fish and oysters and had my oatmeal every morning.  I made it in my in-room coffee maker!  I am back home now and heading out to registration !

I saw myself in the big studio mirror today wearing my 2-piece suit, my tan, make-up and my hair had just been done.  I was stunned. And I actually cried !  How remarkable the work that can be accomplished in a few months with motivation and perserverance.  I’ve never seen myself look like this.  Looking forward to tomorrow!

Thanks to everyone on bb space who have been helpful and inspiring!

Travel and Training

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

I am just back home to YOW from YVR - west to east.  I was on a business trip and was able to stay with some friends. Luckily my friends support me in my new endeavour to train and compete in figure. These are my 2 best girl friends and when we get together, which is about twice a year due to distance, we normally party very hearty!  Always late nights and plenty of great food and drinks. This time around tho, I had to follow my diet and not drink and try to get to bed at a reasonable hour!  I’m glad to report, we had an amazing time!

My hostess filled her fridge with egg whites, chicken and prepared baked halibut for dinner one night.  Now that’s a real friend!  OK, I admit I sipped a little white wine during my stay.  As for late nights, well, 1 or 2 a.m. is pretty early for us girls.  This is when you know who your real friends are. They were so supportive and amazed at my transformation.

I’m home now, a little jet lagged with the 3 hour time shift. But I feel fine. Next Saturday, I’m going back to the west coast to spend a week in San Francisco working a scientific conference. That will be my peak week. I’m a little nervous about it.  Sadly the girls won’t be joining me… but maybe that’s a good thing! Cause my competition will be on the day after I return.

I can’t believe I’m finally setting foot in California, and it’s just days before the competition.  Bad timing!  I’ll be bringing home chocolates and wine to enjoy AFTER November 1st !  All in moderation of course.

I’ve been checking the forum and the website for articles on training and dieting while travelling.  I need all the tips I can get.

Posing clinic

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I’m totally pumped today. I attended a posing clinic to prepare for the Nov. 1st eastern championship competition (OPA). 2 fantastic Canadian athletes, Natalie Waples and Michelle Matthews, lead the clinic and ran us through all our mandatory poses.  It was great fun and hard work. They answered lots of important questions. It really helped alot. I feel more confident and prepared to compete. I really want to have a good time and not stress too much. But of course, stress is part of the whole package. So the more prepared I can be, the smoother things will go… I hope!

The thing I’ve noticed most is that everyone is so friendly. Imagine a bunch of girls competing against each other - but still being totally friendly and helpful. Great stuff!

So I’m newly motivated to keep training hard.  Yesterday’s rest did me a world of good. I felt strong today. Yippee!

Taking a break today

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Ughh I was very tired yesterday and woke up this morning with a very heavy head. I think I may have overtrained and am draining my energy levels. I have not taken a rest day in the past 10 days. Oopsies! Just being over zealous and not patient! So I was directed to take a break today.  (Does an hour of vacuuming and house cleaning count??)  …no rest for the wicked!

I have been increasing weights substantially and training 30 minutes on the arc trainer on my days off! I can really see improvement which is why I didn’t want to slow down. I pressed the send button the other day and officially signed up for my first competition on November 1st.  So I guess panic has set in !  I practiced some posing and walking with my immensely graceful coach last night (2008 Ms World Fitness). She is amazing and was very encouraging. I’ve got some work to do, but I’m up for it.

But first I need to rest, relax abit and stop worrying.  Let’s see if can manage that!  Back in the gym tomorrow!
