Up the Cardio
I am on an advice seeking mission!!! I want to up my cardio. My cardio days now consists of usually at least 30 min on the treadmill and 30 min on the bike or a little more depending on time. I want to burn major calories though and I know I need to step it up to do that. I am taking all suggestions…..I hate to run, but if thats what it takes then damn!!! thats what it takes. I love the bike though and I have a love hate relationship with the elliptical…

I have a love/hate relationship with the elliptical. It is the only piece of equipment where I can knock out 500-600 calories in less than 30 minutes, so I’m not doing cardio FOREVER.
I don’t know how people can stand doing cardio for longer than 1/2 an hour. I want to get it over with!!
I do higher speeds at medium resistance. When my heartrate rises about 150, I go at a lower speed at high resistance to let my heartrate come down. I repeat the process throughout.

Try running sprints outside. 50 meter distance and do as many as you can. You will break a sweat if you limit your rest time. I sometimes choose a number to do or a time frame. Great for legs and endurance.

I agree w/Shan about the elip blowing a lot of calories.
However like you I used to do just 30 min and started upping the time to 50 plus minutes, but have found a happy medium at 40. Your HR is important with your cardio in the ability to lose pounds and inches,I think it comes down to the amount of exertion that you are doing while doing your cardio. And yes HIIT is a very good cardio with any piece of equipment.

Try sprint intervals, sprint hard for 30 seconds, recover for 90 seconds repeat. Treadmill, then ellpictical and then bike , with the treadmill being the best for burning the calories if you run, ellpictical, then bike. Just the mear act of having to be in a standing position when doing cardio helps with the calorie burn I’ve read.
Get that heart rate up! If you have a heart rate monitor use it, aim for 150 to 170.

Ditto above on intervals & HIIT. You don’t need marathon cardio sessions (in fact, they’re counter-productive……..it hampers the buiding & maintaining of muscle). HIIT ups the metabolism higher, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, keeps it raised for longer period AFTER the workout, which does more fat burning.

HIIT works best for me. I switch up machines per day. Elliptical, bike, and the rowing machine. Rowing machine works just about everything.
