I’m staring at a Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine on my desk with Katie Bopp on the cover. I think I’m halfway there. According to my scale, I’ve been at 163.8 for the past several days. Earlier in the year I started at about 180-something lbs; as high as 190-something last year. My goal is to lose at least 18lbs within the next 10 weeks, bringing me into the 140s. I’m highly considering doing cardio twice a day, starting today. This morning I ran a little with sprint intervals. Now I’m tired and ready to go back to sleep but the work day has just begun. I usually do weights in the early afternoon, partly because it gives me a reason to get away from my desk for an hour. I can see my muscles are forming pretty well but I’ve got about 20lbs of fat to lose, especially from my lower body. I have 18 (.5L) bottles of water sitting on my desk. I don’t drink anything but water, so that’s a plus. My main meals are pretty healthy. My weakness: desserts and snacks. My eating/snacking habits have made my weight fluctuate between 158 and 164 the past several months, so I’ve pretty much just been maintaining. Having a sweet tooth, overindulging habits and inconsistent cardio can make this challenging at times. I saw a motivating quote that said "train like an animal, diet with the discipline of a samurai and give it your all." This I shall do… right after this 1.25oz bag of Cheez-Its that was sent to me in a care package. I love working out, but it takes a lot of disipline to diet like a samurai in the desert. You’re pretty much required to be in an office for 12-14 hours a day, if not more, and it sucks, which makes it easier to snack. I especially OD on trail mixes, nuts, raisins, granola bars and desserts. But no excuses. Earlier, I said 10 weeks. I’ll take this one week at a time. Starting now. I’ll work on increasing water, protein and cardio. One week at a time. In regards to the desserts and snacks, just like the drug commercials, I’ll work on practicing "just say no." But I doubt it’ll happen overnight. If only I could go back to sleep now…
Ok… enough of my rambling…

Sometimes i’m good at avoiding it, other times, not so much. Sugar cravings… do u get them? how do u handle them? Esp in the desert, dessert is like a comfort… any advice?

Approx 10lbs lost… 40 to go… seems like such a long way… but I’ll make it happen. Can’t really see the difference in the mirror, but I’m sure the results will show in time. I’ve been doing good with hitting the gym the this month. Sticking to my strict diet… not so much. But I think each day is better than the last. I haven’t cheated at all today, and I’ve stuck to my meal schedule… slowly but surely, I’m getting there. Getting ready to hit the gym now. Peace.

I’ve just contacted my new coach. He’s assured me I’ll receive the guidance I need to transform into a competitive bodybuilder by fall.
I googled the 2009 ABA/INBA/PNBA Events Schedule and found three competitions in California for that time frame.
- Sept. 5: National Armed Forces Natural Bodybuilding Championships + Ms. Fitness Armed Forces. Open to all Military Personnel — Vista, CA
- Oct. TBA: Western USA Bodybuilding Championships + Bay Area Natural — Sacramento, CA
- Nov. 14: Professional and Amateur Universe Natural Bodybuilding Championships
+ Fitness Universe — Los Angeles, CA
I can hardly wait to begin training.

Every man attracted to me thinks I have a really hot body; they love my curves, and my @$$, of course. But at 5′8" 180lbs, I think the woman in the mirror is disgustingly fat. This is the same woman who will hit the weights and pavement several days a week for a whole month, eat extremely healthy, get really excited about the results, quit for a couple months, get back on the routine, quit again, and then endlessly stuff her face with chocolates, ice cream, cakes, pies, burgers, fries, pizza, and fried rice… ewww… gross.
Well, today I declare this nonsense has got to stop. I have to find a way to stay motivated and on track. I don’t have a partner to work out with, so I have to be my own motivator. Well, we all see how well that works. I decided to join bodybuilding.com for this reason. I hope to meet a lot of inspirational people and I hope that I can be of help in motivating others as well.
According to online sources, my ideal body weight should be 140lbs. My goal is to lose 50lbs and work to compete as a bodybuilder by the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010. I never thought I would say this a year ago. Last year, while stationed in Guam, my goal was to run a 10K race before moving to California in July. Well, I ended up running a 10-mile race (only because I "thought" my friend said it was a 10K…until I got there and found out it was 10M.) The race was definitely a challenge, but it felt so wonderful to accomplish that goal. Now it’s a new year and a new challenge, and I’m so excited!
