My Peanut Butter Addiction

Yup, this love goes WAY back as far as my memory goes. Growing up in a family with six children…my mom often times made meals I didn’t like. I love ya mom…but the tuna/pea casserole was unbearable. So, my dad and I always had the jar of pb. We kind of made it our thing….we ate it all the time. He would always tell me it was a food I could live off of. I don’t know if that’s true but as I was growing…I started getting muscular at about 15 or 16 years old. Peanut butter was my main dish. My dad is also very muscular…he has abs like a rock still. Anyways, I learned early on that if I was going to eat this stuff outta the jar, the white bread and jelly had to go. That combo means nothing but a quick way for me to get fat. I have done it way too many times, especially when I was pregnant.

As the years went by, I never grew tired of this taste. As my battle with the scale continued with the ups and downs, I couldn’t give pb up for very long. I did try :) I finally realized how I could eat it and not have a huge gain in weight. The secret for me…is that when my carbs are low or in control…I can eat a few spoons at a time…often throughout the day. Never do I eat alot at once. But…I do eat alot of it. I don’t know why, but it is a "mood enhancing" food for me. So when I tell people my muscles are actually pb…you now know why I say that!!

My dad always calls me now to check on my training. He laughed when I told him how during comp prep…I only had one tbsp of peanut butter a day usually. He knew how hard that was for me…he said "just eat it, it’s not going to hurt you". I said, "dad, you don’t understand how important keeping the diet is right now." He still told me to eat it! Love ya Pops!

It’s funny, because I was never too much of a peanutbutteraholic until I started lifting weights. Now I LOVE the stuff! I usually order organic almond butter to keep it a bit healthier, but nothing beats the peanut butter with the sugar added to it! Yummmmmm! :-)

At least now, I can give myself the go ahead to have a tablespoon every once in a while.

I’m like you, I prefer to eat it off of a spoon and not with bread and/or jelly. :-)

Sometimes I look around the kitchen for a little something later in the evenings long after dinner. All I usually find is crap like cookies, candy bars, ice cream, chips, ect. ect. Sometimes I really want that stuff, but MOST of the time…just give me that big ol’ spoonfull of peanut butter!! That is my fix. I can take a spoonfull and make it last 15 min or so and I am happy :)

i have a friend that the minute i walk in the door she pulls out the PB and places a spoon next to it…have to tell her to get a jar of natural now. PB it’s all I know

I hear ya with the PB, always been a huge fan as well, I have had to learn to eat it off the spoon and not on toast or in a sandwhich… but I just love it… Cottage cheese straight from the container followed by peanut butter straight from the container is often my desert!!

Think maybe someone should setup a body group PB 4 Life or something….

I have natural, natural honey, organic almond…and JIFF for the kids…we don’t go to the store w/o getting another jar! I love it from the spoon during contest prep, but I’ve been putting it on everything since the show…graham crackers, rice cakes…a little marshmellow creme and banana slices on top…oh, wait, did I just say that?!

  15. HauteMama_ToTwo Says:

Oh, and totally made the pb choc pudding w/ protein..used a diff one since it’s what i had, but YUM!! I didn’t feel bad about eating it either!! The boys loved it, had choc mustaches!

What is it with our obsession w/ the PB love? I’ve read about five different PB stories in the last week. I had to switch to almond butter, individual servings in packets! The spread is so toxic, what a comfort food ! I tried making my own, and I broke my blender in the attempt. In the end , it’s good for us, GOOD fats in BAD fats out right!?

  17. StressMonkey Says:

I feel your pain. I love it too!

This story strikes close to my heart with my love addiction to PEANUT BUTTER! When I was little I was picky(still am) My mom got nervous and took me to the doctor because the only thing I would eat is peanut butter, The doc said well don’t worry about it , at least its good for him! And Carver was the father of the peanut and played around with peanut butter, It was produced by a doctor to make sure old people without teeth would get their protein intake. I’ve had 2 pieces of peanut butter toast for breakfast everyday of my life for as long as I can remember and I’m 42! And b-4 eating cleaner there would be p.b. on my french toast, pancakes, ice cream to name a few! If I was on death row, my last meal request would be p.b. toast!!! Now I have to go have my last protein shake of the day and I think I will add a scoop of PEANUT BUTTER! I know I need help Signed fellow P.B. addict
