Watched My First Comp Today
What a day it’s been. Trying to get the workouts in and make it to the NPC Continental was a challenge. The first good part of the day was getting dressed to leave…my blouse was way tight in the arms and around my chest. That made me happy…for I know it’s my back growing and those biceps
I left for the comp ..it was an hour ride. The traffic was ridiculous! It took me almost 2 hours, so I was late. I missed seeing Amy Kessler on stage
I also tried to look for her, but everyone was in the back and I couldn’t get back there. Sorry about that Amy! I really went there for you!!
I noticed the extravagant figure/bodybuilding suits right away! WOW! Lots of bling on alot of ladies…not all of them though. But, 30 seconds into the posing, I was surprised how little I paid attention to the suits…it was all about the muscles, no question about it. I was also surprised to hear people yelling up to competitors on stage to flex this, or vacuum the abs! That surprised me, I wonder what that feels like to have someone screaming at you while you are up there….
The show was amazing to me…I was glowing like a 100w bulb for sure. Everyone was so nice as they came out to the lobby afterwards too. I had to leave before the award part at night. I met one of the judges when I was leaving. We talked for awhile and he encouraged me to learn from my first show coming up. As I walked the table area with the vendors, it dawned on me that I would miss seeing Pro Bob Chick because he would be there later. The Bodybuilding.com tables were empty….not sure why.
All in all, I am very happy I had the opportunity to go. Hats off to all the competitors there, you put on quite a show!! I hope Amy did well!!

I am happy you had the opportunity to attend your first figure comp. You described it greatly and I really want to attend one myself. There was one locally here a week ago, but I missed it. Next time I’ll definitely make it.

Did you leave the contest inspired to compete??

Thats great you got a 1st hand look. There are a few blogs of some 1st time female competitors that were among the most informative & best reads I’ve come across on BB.
I have ZERO doubt you will kick @$$ and take names in your 1st comp. You exude confidence.

It’s probably a good idea to watch a show before you compete in your first one. Good luck. I’m sure you’ll do wonderfully, but more importantly enjoy your journey, and keep moving forwards.

i always thought it helped to hear the crowd yell… i remember being so tired, but so jacked on adrenaline and sometimes, the lights and the nerves get in the way and you hear someone scream that it’s a leg contest and all of a sudden you remember, "shit i gotta squeese my ass!!!" so it helps to hear it… it’s encouraging mostly. you are going to LOVE it, no doubt about it, amy. the energy in those rooms is exhillerating. i’m excited to see how you describe being on the other side of it. i remember there were two guys from my team battling out athletic mens a few years ago… we were going nuts in the crowd hollering for our favorites, and i think i’ve never been in a room with more anticipation… it was one of the most fun nights i can remember in my life… and i know those guys were having fun too hearing everyone routing them on… it was the longest pose down i’ve witnessed, and it was worth every drip of sweat they gave it!
how are you feeling now… getting closer!!?!!
