Gotta Love Cardio

I am so happy that my endurance is FINALLY increasing again. I had stopped doing cardio many months ago while trying to gain muscle.. before I started training with Jason. For me personally, I get VERY hungry on a weight training program. I have never been able to lose weight from just lifting weights and building muscle. But…I was able to lose 20 lbs from hanging on the treadmill many months ago! So at this point of my competition prep..I certainly need to do both. The first few weeks of easing back into sprints was not fun…I was miserable. But, today when I ran this morning..I was able to increase my speed and run farther on my steady pace run.  That is a huge accomplishment for someone who honestly has never been a runner…ever….I was the walking 12% incline person who could do that forever. But, the body adapts to stresses placed upon it , so that will do me no good now. Since  Jason added cardio back into my life (LOL)…I am losing fat , YEAH!!  I have a ways to go, but things are looking real good and I am happy :)

Watched My First Comp Today

What a day it’s been. Trying to get the workouts in and make it to the NPC Continental was a challenge. The first good part of the day was getting dressed to leave…my blouse was way tight in the arms and around my chest. That made me happy…for I know it’s my back growing and those biceps :)   I left for the comp ..it was an hour ride. The traffic was ridiculous! It took me almost 2 hours, so I was late. I missed seeing Amy Kessler on stage :(     I also tried to look for her, but everyone was in the back and I couldn’t get back there. Sorry about that Amy! I really went there for you!!

I noticed the extravagant figure/bodybuilding suits right away! WOW! Lots of bling on alot of ladies…not all of them though. But, 30 seconds into the posing, I was surprised how little I paid attention to the suits…it was all about the muscles, no question about it. I was also surprised to hear people yelling up to competitors on stage to flex this, or vacuum the abs! That surprised me, I wonder what that feels like to have someone screaming at you while you are up there….

The show was amazing to me…I was glowing like a 100w bulb for sure. Everyone was so nice as they came out to the lobby afterwards too. I had to leave before the award part at night. I met one of the judges when I was leaving. We talked for awhile and he encouraged me to learn from my first show coming up. As I walked the table area with the vendors, it dawned on me that I would miss seeing Pro Bob Chick because he would be there later. The Bodybuilding.com tables were empty….not sure why.

All in all, I am very happy I had the opportunity to go. Hats off to all the competitors there, you put on quite a show!! I hope Amy did well!!

Nutrition tip……..be careful if you buy frozen boneless skinless chicken. I made the mistake trying to save money and didn’t read the labels. There was 180mg of sodium per serving! I always buy fresh, and there is typically 40mg. Too much salt is not condusive to a heart healthy diet. I grilled a piece of chicken yesterday and took a bite and spit it out! It tasted like someone dumped the salt shaker on it……lesson learned!

Tip on ALCOHOL consumption…….if you have just one drink, your body’s fat burning ability is impaired for 24 hours. Another good reason why I gave it up!!

Posing Class Today

I just got back from a posing lesson today with an NPC competitor teaching me. I haven’t seen her in a few years…and when I came out with my bathing suit on ready to start she was all compliments! I felt so good for that minute, she saw how far I have come. She was the owner of the gym I used to belong to. Well it went so well! She did a wonderful job explaining and showing me….and of course correcting me! When we finished, she said "If you get a free pose…do a back double bi, your back is amazing Amy". I was shocked! She said it is my strong feature……who woulda thought. Thankyou Jason….she was quite impressed with you!!
