Breaking PRs with Scivation

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Although I think I may be coming down with a cold I still went into the gym for chest, abs and cardio.  I know, pretty bad of me to go out in public when I’m not feeling well.  But I just got over a minor back injury and I’m making progress so I desperately wanted to get my workout in.  Funny thing is that even though I felt like 75% I hit all of my goals laid out for today’s workout and exceeded some (this week is heavy weight of 4-6 reps for 5-6 sets).  Based on the weight I set out to do, I wasn’t even sure I was going to meet those goals on a healthy day.  I wrapped up with 45mins on the Cybex at maximum incline and maximum intensity (heart rate maintained between 130-150).  So despite feeling less than great, it was a good workout.  Now, I’m sure I’ll pay for it by feeling lousy tomorrow.

On a side note, yesterday was leg day and I hit a PR on squats at 300lbs.  Now that I exercising better discipline with the diet, the Scivation program is starting to take hold.  I’m starting to loose some weight (slowly) while my strength is increasing.  Last week, I signed up for the free training program that Derek is doing so I’m hopeful that I will get my personalized program next week.  I feel that I have a head start on it.

If I don’t hit rock bottom in the next 24hrs, I will hit the back tomorrow followed by a carb up meal and rest on Thursday – looking forward to carbs and rest!

Oh yeah, I’m am essentially out of supplements this week  All I have is some NoXplode, Creatine, Glutamine powder and my Animal Pak vitamins.  Not bad for being low but I’m looking forward to my restock which includes my Xtend and VasoCharge.  I’ve been a big fan of NOxplode but I’m going to try VasoCharge - it costs less.

Carb-up

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

It’s been 11 days since I hurt my lower back from an intense leg workout.  After nursing it, my back is feeling pretty good today.  I think I’ll be back on my normal leg routine come Monday.  Today is a rest day but I may go in and hit the abs and cardio – must loose fat!

Last night was a carb load.  I cheated and didn’t eat the vegetables but I won’t do that again knowing the purpose of eating the veggies first.  This is what I ate;

¾ cup oatmeal (measured dry)

2 Tablespoons of raisins

¾ tablespoon of honey

2 packs of splenda

30 grams of cashews

Followed by -

8 oz sweet potato

2 tablespoons of peanut butter

No water 45-60 minutes pre & post carb meal.  I took about 30 minutes to eat the meal.

Feeling pretty good today – muscles seem a bit harder, little to no bloating.

Two steps forward - one step back

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Well I blew it – nursing my lower back this week.  The goal for this week was to increase my weight, reps and sets.  I started with legs on Monday and had to go in the gym late in the evening which threw me off (I was already tired).  My first two exercises were Squats 295lbs, 6 sets of 8 reps followed by Straight Leg Deadlift 245lbs, 6 sets of 8 reps.  Somewhere in there I became tired and got a little sloppy on my form and now my back is paying for it.  I’m a little pissed with myself as this has thrown my routine off this week.

None the less, I have been getting good strength gains following the Scivation CutDiet training program.  I can see some changes, mostly in my legs and back.  I’m up to doing 90lb weighted dips – I remember when I was challenged with just my bodyweight.  I still need to keep at the cardio and drop the BF I’m carrying around the midsection and glutes.  I am also making some tweaks to better hit my calves, biceps and chest which are some areas I would like to see some growth.
