MRI good - intense training bad
So I saw my doctor yesterday and he had me go in for an MRI. Thankfully, the results showed that there is no aneurism (found out this morning). I have discovered that cardio and light lifting doesn’t bother me. However, when I start lifting intensely the migraine hits me. I went in the gym at my office before my MRI and did a few reps on the flat bench on the universal gym and it didn’t bother me. So, I thought things may be looking up. However, I went to my regular gym after the MRI and decided to give myself the acid test. I started with some lat exercises on the Hammer Strength machine. Well, the migraine kicked in and as usual, I had a lot of pain, nausea, cold sweats and weak in the knees. I had to call it quits.
So, my doctor called me this morning with the good results from the MRI. However, I still have the problem and the doctor can pin point the issue other than it is related to intense exercise and apparently this is not uncommon for people to experience even during sex. What puzzles me is that I have no history of migraines and it is as if someone flipped a switch and I now can’t lift without getting them. My doctor is prescribing me some beta blockers and wants me to avoid intense lifting for a week to allow the medication to take effect. He gave me the ok to do light activity until we meet up again next week. I can’t believe that my one thing that I love to do that gives me so many good things (lifting) now causes me major pain. WTF?! Ok, enough of feeling sorry for myself. Life is about adapting and now I have to adapt my training to deal with this problem and hopefully it is just short term. I will now focus on cardio and lightweight/high rep training. I will also see if I can lift heavy with my legs as I think this issue may be related more to upper body exercises. This could be a blessing in disguise as it may force me to do the things that will promote fat burning. We’ll see.

I’m sorry to hear that bro…
Have you seen a chiropractor? I know it might sound strange, but when I was going, mine explained what was happening to me…I never got migraines like you, but I would get the nausea and dizziness after lower body work-outs, and explained something about fluid flow in my spine and back and brain, etc.
Most regular doctors don’t like chiroprators, but a really good one can explain how everything is connected.
Good luck with this situation-we’re all pulling for you.

I haven’t seen a chiropractor as of yet. This has only been going on for 10 days so far and I saw my primary physician for the first time yesterday. I had a coworker suggest seeing one too. They described a similiar situation to yours. The MRI checked the fluids in my brain and that came back good but it doesn’t take in account my spine.
I’m confident that this is something that I can work through, it just may take a little time.
I appreciate the well-wishes, thank you! Hit it hard!
