Common Courtesy

November 6, 2009

I have been lifting for many years and have recently joined a gym with my husband. The only problem I have is in the free weight area. As a common courtesy, when anyone is using the free weights, please step away from the rack. Men are mostly the offenders in this area. They grab their weights and stand in front of the rack and work their sets. As a common courtesy, please step back a few feet so everyone can grab and put away the weights when we are finished. Thanks for listening!

A new beginning

December 27, 2008

Today I started a new journal book and wrote an entry and logged my daily food log with clean eating foods. I got on the scale and gained about 3 pounds since thanksgiving which I feel is not too bad. The only other splurge will be new years eve which will mostly be alcohol. I’ll stick to lite beer and wine to avoid too many calories in the mixed drinks. There will be plenty of food but I will eat healthy beforehand so I won’t be hungry. My husband bought me a skimpy workout outfit so that will motivate me. I will load up the fridge with lots of produce and go tanning to motivate me as well. Good luck with everyone with their new goals for 2009!

Blog Entry

December 17, 2008

I have officially gotten back on track by writing down my diet tracking carbs and protein grams. I aim for 200 gms of protein and cycle my carbs (70 gms 3 days and one day 120 gms). My goal is to get down to 180 pounds by Xmas. Then to get back down to 175 by February. I slipped quite a bit when I came down with a bad cold and then thanksgiving and just letting the stress of the holidays get the better of me. I faced the scale this morning and restated my plan of attack. I will splurge on Xmas dinner and dessert but sparingly. My resolution is to get more sleep and rest more.

Any Ideas?

November 19, 2008

I have been increasing my protein intake to about 200 gms a day. I weigh 178 lbs. Any one have creative ideas with egg whites? It’s the cheapest lowest calorie food I eat and sometimes I just can’t stomach another egg white! I am thinking of adding sugar free preserves mixed in. Sounds gross but it’s how my mom got me to eat eggs as a kid! Any other low carb high protein meal ideas? Any good tasting low carb high protein bars out there?

It works!

November 18, 2008

I took my weight watcher leasder’s advice and that of my friend KLTexas and have lost 2.6 pounds this week! I have the stomach virus for  2 days and ate lots of toast crackers, jelly and when I was feeling well I had some comfort food grilled cheese, french fries and pizza! I am back on the clean eating wagon but I am still eating more calories and almost double the protein. I will see how next week goes since I will be well for most of it!

A-HA!

November 11, 2008

Well went to weight watchers meeting and I gained 3 pounds. :( O well, I sat down with the group leader and after seeing that I was not adding points for activity (I work out about 6 days a week for over an hour) she said that the problem was that I was not eating enough protein and not enough calories. Tomorrow I have planned to eat about 170 gms of protein (I weigh 182 pounds) so the 1gm per pound of protein is a goal I will strive for. I will have to add some more protein powder to my meals (cottage cheese and more shakes) and eat more lean meat. Maybe I will try salmon again. It is hard because it is expensive. Maybe the albacore tuna instead. Any ideas for the amount of protein I should be eating or different low calorie sources of protein?

Renewed Motivation and Energy!

November 11, 2008

Last night I was exhausted and had a cheat meal of Chinese food. Anyone use cheat meals? How often?

I fell asleep on the couch and slept in today. I think what I really needed was a rest day from working out. I usually only take one day off if I do at all and I think with the more demanding workouts I need more rest days in between. Anyone know the correct amount of rest between workouts?

Today I ran for 44 minutes straight and felt awesome! I wore a tight black spandex top and pants and felt great in it. I have come to realize that I will always have a curvy figure which should help add muscularity in the glutes and quads. Trouble spot is those lower abs.
Anyone use diet to dial those abs in? I am currently cycling carbs. Should I go low carb all the time?

My other trouble spot is the inner and upper thighs. Would low carb diet help cut these down? I am hoping increased running will help. I would like a TM for Xmas this year. I do the recumbent bike but it gets boring.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks for all the support!

Slow Progress

November 9, 2008

Well my weight keeps hovering between 175 and 180 and I am getting frustrated. I did my measurements and some went down (neck, waist, thighs and calves) and others went up (hips, arms, forearms and chest). I started carb cycling again yesterday and gained 2 pounds. Hopefully it will go down as soon as a full cycle is complete. I was pretty successful cycling and lost 4 pounds in one week. I stopped the cycling because I went too low for too long and gave up. I plan to do it the right way and stick to it (3 low - 70 gms and 1 high - 120 gms). What should my protein goals be? Any advice would be appreciated. I usually eat 100 - 140 gms a day. My workouts have really been good. I was doing high reps with moderate weight and cardio 45 mins 5-6 times a week.

Great workout: Jamie Eason’s Plyometrics Card Routine

November 7, 2008

I decided to try something new for cardio. I was getting bored with the recumbent bike and was disappointed at the dreary weather on my day off so I read an article about Jamie Eason on bodybuilding.com and her video post was this workout using a deck of cards when you don’t have access to the gym. It was so high intensity and my body was soaked with sweat afterwards. I did my leg workout beforehand too. Check it out if you want a change.

Thanks!

November 7, 2008

Thanks everyone for the advice on the SuperPump250. It’s awesome and no more breakouts! I will start again carb cycling 3 days low (70 gms) and 1 day high (120)
again since I lost a lot of weight quickly that way. I stopped because I went a little extreme the last cycle (5 days low; what was I thinking?!). I will stick to the advice from you guys especially KLTexas (enjoy the free advertisement girl!).  I will keep  journaling like this  during  the new cycles. Wish me luck! I am trying the plyometrics card workout along with my lifting .  Thank god for SuperPump and coffee!
