Mentality…

Sometimes I think.. why can’t I just be happy with myself the way I am? Why do I have to feel like I’m not good enough or need to try harder because I’m just not where I want to be yet??

That is so ridiculous though. I need to change my mentality, but it’s hard to do. I need to focus on being proud of the process and the little accomplishments every day.. not scold myself because I’m not where I want to be. Where I want to be takes time and motivation, and I have come really far. I think I would be having more fun, be a lot happier, and probably seeing better results, if I changed my mentality. Its easier said than done though, but I can do it.

Sooo I didnt exactly keep up with the Keto Journal. BUT, I actually only did it for a week and a half. My second week of keto in was finals week, I was studying for my microbiology final and felt like I had no brain. So I said SCREW THIS and ate a wheat bagel :) Loved it.

So, my trainer was right, as always! But since my little keto experiment he’s had me on carb cycles and I’m liking where I’m at. I’m less than 20 weeks out from my show and upping the cardio. I’m really excited to see more definition, I feel like I’ve added size in certain areas and will be a lot more symmetrical. I’m going home this weekend to see the family, haven’t been home since March :( hopefully they will notice a difference in my physique.. especially my mother because she actually did  show in 1996 so she has a background there.

I can’t wait for warmer weather though, because I got the cutest new bathing suit and it feels good when you actually like how you looking in a bikini! But on that note, I’ve put so much size on my legs that I went to try a pair of jean shorts on and the waist fit wonderfully but my truck legs did not fit so well! I didnt hate it though because they looked incredibly muscular. Its nice not fitting into what the world of fashion thinks a female should look like… 5′10" 100lbs. Nope sorry, 5′3" and about 30 lbs more!

Has anyone ready that Skinny Bitch book? I refuse to read that crap. I mean, people are free to make their own decisions as to what they fuel their bodies with but give me a break. The chapter on protein… wtf.. claims that animal protein is full of hormones and basically poisonous. To some extent that is true, but free range meat is available that has been slaughtered properly. I’m going to write a book called Muscular Bitch Puts Skinny Bitch in a Headlock!! ;)

Keto Journal - Day Four

Woke up feeling fairly rested considering I was kept up by drunk people partying downstairs. I feel really lean today, too :) Breakfast was much more enjoyable this morning, didn’t have to choke anything down, always a plus.

Intake:

Meal One: 2 eggs, 2 turkey sausage, 1/4 C 2% mexi cheese, 3 omegas

Meal Two: 100% egg protein with splenda and cinnamon

Meal Three: Shake with coconut oil and splenda, very similar to a pina colada i must say :)

Meal Four: Protein Bar, 1 cup cucumber, 3 omegas, 4 coconut caps

Meal five: 2 oz chicken, 2 tbsp natural PB, 1 cup cucumber,  3 omegas

Meal six: 2 tbsp natural PB, 4 coconut caps, 3 omegas

Total Macros about 24g carb, 108g fat, and 134g protein… around 1735

Workout: It was a back day, lifted really heavy and seemed to have to dig a little deeper for those last few reps but all in all, "great success!"(said in a Borat voice). Went tanning after and mmm felt good.

Its about 1:00, I have my last 3 meals left, trying to space them out every 3 hours so next meal time is 3:30, 6:30, and 9:30 when i get outta work. I’ve been aiming for 3 liters of water a day, had almost a gallon yesterday but I’m slacking there today. I’d say im not even to 2 liters yet. Whoops. Anyway, timer on the oven is going off, chicken is done, gotta get the meals together before work!

Keto Journal - Day Three, want beer.

Woke up starving and not looking forward to breakfast. I HAD to eat this leftover mixture of cinnamon flax oil, cottage cheese, ground cinnamon and apple pie flavored protein powder. The initial taste is really good, like dessert. But then I get this underlying after taste of oil, followed by cinnamon flavored burps and it just sicks me out. But I had to eat it cause I paid for it and I dont want to waste it! SUCK IT UP.

I did order some mango peach muscle milk. Planning on blending 1/2 serving with a tbsp coconut oil and ice. Works out to be 20g fat, 16 protein, 3 net carbs. Hopefully it will taste tropical or something. Maybe I’ll add some rum ;) kidding. I wonder if i could freeze it and make like a sherbet or ice creamy thing? Would that ruin the coconut oil?
INTAKE:

Meal One: 1/2C cottage cheese, 1/4 scoop apple pie flavored whey, 1 tbsp cinnamon flax oil, ground cinnamon, 2 eggs.

Meal Two: Protein Shake with 1 tbsp cinnamon flax (this one was much better than the cottage cheese mixture.)

Meal Three: 1 scoop 100% Egg Protein with splenda and cinnamon to taste (cinnamon theme today)

Meal Four: Two turkey and cheese roll ups, 3 omega caps, 6 coconut oil caps, 1 C broccoli

Meal FIve: Protein Bar, 1 C Broccoli, 6 coconut oil caps, 3 omegas

Meal Six: 2 tbsp natural PB, 8 coconut caps, 3 omegas.
Macros: 28g carb, 109g fat, 130g protein… around 1720 cals. yippy.

Workout: Interval Sprints and Abs - 3×20 reverse crunch, 3×30 sec side planks each side, and 3×20 body crunch. Was absolutely starving post workout, pretty much chugged the shake.. should have savored it because I so wanted more more more. The rest of me week is crazy busy. Actually the next 7 days is crazy busy. I havent felt fatigued yet so BRING IT ON.

I have my last four meals left now and its 1:30. If i space them out and pump the fluids to me i should be golden. I’m hungry x10 today though.

Sidenote: all of my friends are doing a keg race today. Sometimes I miss getting shit-faced on a wednesday afternoon for no reason. BUT, I remember how I used to feel, how i used to look, and how i wanted to look different. Having control feels good, and I’m proud to be a 21 year old who isn’t boozing 24/7. Its really made huge difference in more aspects of my life than just my physique. Wont lie though, I could go for a cold beer or two with dinner every single night.

Keto Journal - Day Two

Woke up, stomach ache gone so that was good. Not overly hungry which is weird because I’m normally STARVING when I wake up. I’m adding coconut oil capsules, omega 3-6-9 capsules and 100% egg protein to the diet.

Intake:

Meal One: 2 oz slim n’ trim reduced sodium fresh deli turkey, 2 eggs, 2 turkey sausage links, 1/4 C 2% mexi cheese sprinkles, 4 coconut oil capsules.

Meal Two: Whey Protein Shake with 2 tbsp natural PB

Meal Three: Egg protein shake with 2 tbsp natural PB

Meal Four: 3 oz turkey, 1/4 C 2% mexi cheese sprinkles, 1 cup broccoli, 6 coconut oil capsules, 3 omega 3-6-9 capsules.

Meal Five: 2 oz steak, 15g almonds, 5 omega caps, 1 cup broccoli

Meal Six: 1 tbsp cinnamon flax oil mixed in 1/2 C fat free cottage cheese.

Workout: Shoulder day. Went really well, wasnt tired at all. BUT I was extremely pumped about this crazy 86 degree weather we had today. Back down to 60 degrees for the rest of the week I guess.

There was an ice cream sundae/float social type thing going on at the community building of my apt. complex. BOO. Hot weather+ice cream=satisfaction. Then again, Ice cream+Ashli=fat ass, and I dont see satisfaction anywhere in that equation. SO, I made the scheduled protein shake that happens to taste just like a milkshake and wanted no longer. Can’t beat that!

I’m gonna play around with my macros a bit more to be @ more of a deficit. The amount I ate yesterday was more towards maintaining so I’m going to aim for 30g carb, 110g fat, and 135g protein. That would put me just under 1700 cals.

side note: stay away from pig products, swine flu going around. SICK.

Onward and upward.. my carb up is going to start friday night and end saturday night. I’m going to aim to get in about 2400 cals worth of carbs(600g) in that time and keep the fat intake low. Mmmm bagels. hahaha

Yup so its about 3:30pm, I have my last three meals of the day left. I’m training a group at 4:30 until 5:30 with Mike (Mcotnoir on bodyspace), probably playing some tennis with him after because its so beautiful out, and definitely watching The Biggest Loserrrr!! love it.

Keto Journal - Day One Review

So yesterday, 4/27/09, I started my first day of a Keto cycle. I plan on doing a 2 week trial with carb ups to see how I respond to it. Basically 5 days of keto, 2 day carb up.. repeat. Not sure if I totally agree with the type of diet but I’m going to give it an honest shot. My trainer doesnt love the idea of Keto, but I’m lucky to have his opinion and feedback along the way. I know he’ll be honest with me.

Here was my intake for yesterday:

Meal One: 3 eggs, 1/4 C 2% Mexican Cheese Sprinkles, 2 turkey sausage links

Meal Two: 1/4 C fat free cottage cheese, 2 tbsp natural PB

Meal Three:  large egg whites (this was post workout, i didnt want to include any fat here)

Meal Four: 5oz. steak, 15 almonds, 1 C cucumber slices with skin

Meal Five: 2 large egg whites, 2 tbsp PB

Meal Six: 2 oz. chicken breast, 2 tbsp cinnamon flax oil, 1 C cucumber w/ skin

Meal Seven: Protein Bar

Meal Eight: 1 tbsp PB

Macros: about 135g fat, 30g carb, 166g protein. I think I want to condense my meals a little, but eating 8 times a day doesn’t bother me so we’ll see.

Workout: Leg day. Didn’t feel fatigued but I’m assuming thats because I still have muscle glycogen stores considering its just day one. I’m waiting to feel that loopy feeling.

Before Bed: Was pretty nauseated, I know if thats common when you suddenly up your fat intake by 100+ grams?

Anyway, that was yesterday, we will see what today brings. Feedback welcomed!
