Well, my gym like many of your gyms Im sure are flooded with new year newbies. Its great to see people coming out of the woodwork and working out in mass. On the other hand……you can kind of tell who’s gonna stick to the program, and who’s gonna fold before spring. With new faces comes new conversation. Now dont get me wrong, theres nothing I like talking about more than nutrition and exercise. I love to learn new things and i love to help people achieve their goals any way I can. The first thing they ask me is "so, how long have you been coming here?" The truth is, I dont know. I dont keep track anymore. I tell them to look at it as not a sprint but a marathon. When you come to terms that your gonna workout and take care of yourself for the rest of your life, the whole process becomes much easier. Ive been very sick since the new year and missed almost a weeks worth of workouts, but rather than give up because I lost a step, I can realize that it’s only a small bump in relation to how long I have to go.
Everybody wants to know the secret to looking great and feeling great. They want to know the shortcut to hit their goals. I tell them what only a few of us know. The shortest, fastest way to hit your goals is "diet and exercise." Everyone knows that they say. Well they must not or everyone would be walking around with perfect physiques. You can’t cheat the system and expect to be where you want to be. The formula may not be an easy one, but it’s full proof, and it is the fastest.
The girls at work get into these programs at our local gyms where they have to loose a certain percentage of weight by a certain time. I see it over and over. They bust their ass for 3 months till the end of the competition then quit. This is where I say a marathon is a better outlook. They’re always trying to beat the system with their endless search of the most fat free cookie, or reduced fat chips, salad dressing..on and on. They end up eating more calories when their trying to watch what they eat than they do when their not. Just don’t eat it! I understand though. It makes it seem like your doing something healthy for yourself by trying to eat fat free foods. Motivation is a big factor. Some of the people that fall out of the program have more legitamat excuses than others. But, when you really think about it. Any reason for not working out is an excuse. Whether it be time, money, sickness, or anything else. If you cut your leg off in a freak accident……it would still be an excuse. It would just be better than someone elses. I can almost promise, somewhere, someone out there is so dedicated that they would still go get their bicep workout in if they cut their leg off
