Back in the Weight Room!! (DVT Blog Pt 2)
When thinking of a blood clot, most people think of a small mass around the size of a coin. My original tests showed massive clotting around two (2) FEET (!!!) in length; stretching from my calf to my thigh. Fortunately, even though my calf area is still completely blocked, I have blood flow throughout my thigh and FINALLY got the OK by the doctor to start exercising again!! I still have some swelling I need to monitor (and may always have it) but it feels so good to have “my life” back again. I am also still on the Coumadin until at least March/April, maybe longerL I’m not out of the woods yet and may even have surgery in my future, but things are looking up!!
During my “off” time, I only put on 4 pounds, but I feel I lost a lot of muscle. It’ll take some time to build back up to my original intensity (esp. cardio-wise) and I’m pretty deconditioned but I’ve already been hitting it as hard as I can!! Right now, I’m pretty sore from hitting chest and back and it’s a great feeling!!
Anyways, as I was leaving the doctor’s office on Thursday, I looked up, and a huge rainbow stretched across the entire sky!! Talk about signs!!
Thank you all so much for the kind words, prayers and encouragement. It really helped me to stay positive throughout this!! And a special thank you to my husband and family especially when I was all depressed and grouchy!! Sorry it took so long to update my blog!! Hope everyone is having a great new year so far!!

Well, continued prayers and well-wishes are in order. I’m happy the Doc said it’s okay to train again, but I admire your determination and focus it must take to deal with this obstacle. Obstacles are meant to be overcome though and that’s EXACTLY what you’re doing! Keep it up.

Wow, I am happy to see that you are still hitting the gym with all you got. I don’t know much about your condition, but I ruptured my achilles tendon in Dec. 2007 and i missed 6 months from the gym because of limited mobility. Needless to say, I wasn’t too happy about that. Keep up the good work and press on with the press on.

So now that you are on coumadin, do you feel colder? I know for myself living in a cold weather state my fingers and toes are always cold this time of year. Are you getting a regular protime check?
January 21, 2009 at 11:56 am
I’m so proud of you for staying strong entally and being patient and waiting for things to work out for you. Will be pulling for you in your quest to get back.

did your physicians perform a hypercoagulable work up on you? There are certain genetic conditions out there that predispose people to develop DVTs.

Well most times if you are careful and do it right, the weight training is a plus to medical problems. So be careful, but stay strong and enjoy that burning feeling! Proud of you!
February 8, 2009 at 10:49 pm
I’ll be sure to put you in my prayers, good luck with everything.
God bless.

Great to see you back at it. Takes more than a little blood clot to slow some people down right. I have been diagnosed with a DVT twice, both times in my right leg, and both times they have dislodged and moved to my lungs landing me in the hospital. So I’m on coumadin for life here, but the doc says I can still train, and still compete. I just have to be monitored a little more closely.
Good luck in your show in May!

I’m glad you are back at it. Blood clots are nothing to mess with. I will keep you in prayer that you have a full and speedy recovery.
February 17, 2009 at 9:46 am
Way to stay strong. I am a type 1 diabetic taking several shots a day. I know how it is to train and try to stay fit and healthy when you have medical problems. It gets really tough sometimes. Keep staying strong and working hard.
February 20, 2009 at 9:27 am
So glad your doing better and able to get back to doing what you like.
February 24, 2009 at 3:07 pm
New to your blog. You are in my prayers for healing. You are an inspiration for me (who has no reason not to get fit). Thanks.
February 25, 2009 at 10:37 am
Wow, thats insane! Did they give you a possible cause of such a clot? Attack the problem at the source. Good luck and stay strong!
March 2, 2009 at 7:49 am
If you drive a lot the clot can get worse, also lond periods of sitting down without moving can. Guy i know has a clot in the same place as you and uses blood thinners from the doc, i dunno if operations can help.
