Gym Herpes & other stuff you don’t want to hear.
Monday, August 18th, 2008Half of the title above is to get your attention but the majority of this blog is based upon a view point that you may not like.
We are all here for some reason. Vanity, health, occupation, sports, etc…. So we all get the idea. We are all going to reach a certain cross roads when we have to ask ourselves how far as individuals we are willing to go to get to the next level. Granted some people just want to maintain BUT in order to maintain there is a need to change your stratagy. Reps, poundage/weight, variations of movements *cables, machines, free weights* You have an arsenal of tools that are available for body modification. Imagine your body as a slab of metal and your a blacksmith. You need to use a wide varity of tools to manipulate that slab of metal into a finished product. As soon as your done swinging that hammer your work is done and you won’t progress but if you add more heat and start hammering that metal you’ll experience progress. You have to manipulate yourself physically on a consitent schedule. Some of us are here to make as many gains in strenght and size as possible. This opens the gates to another dimension far beyond "body maintenance." Oh no! I’m going to talk about that forbidden substance, lets call it "vitamin S." If or when a person ever decides to walk down this path may I advise that you get informed. Your local moron at your local gym probably doesn’t know jack about vitamin S. There is a lot more to it than just stabbing yourself and popping pills! Manipulation of your body’s chemistry requires changes in your living habits, eating habits and what you do at the gym. Post usage is another animal. Don’t fool yourself, I LOVE LAUGHING at the morons I see that blow up for 2/3 months the shrink down to nothing because thier gym perscription ran out. Most of the time they are smaller in the end then what they were when they started. I invite anybody to research recent pics of Dorian Yates; you may not reconize him. Changing your body’s chemistry is a game of risk, don’t be lazy, read as much material as you can, study everything and don’t short yourself.
Personal trainers, most of you are walking jokes/contradictions of health/fitness. Go to your local gym and take a look, most of them aren’t even in shape yet they are giving exercise advice to people. Tip, the closer your elbows are to your ears the weaker the synergy of your torso muscles and arm muscles will be. Keep that in mind when your benching! If you want to see a bench go youtube Jeff McVicar or Gene Rychlak. Your arms don’t work well next to your ears, sorry.
You want big arms. Your triceps are 2/3rds of your upper arm, try giving them some attention too. Arms are a lot more than curls.
Rear delts, you look funny without them.
Shrugs! Its not how much weight is on that bar is how high you pull the bar and the correct position of your shoulders at the bottom position. They are shrugs not mini squats, keep those knees bent a little but don’t be bouncing the weight. Upright rows and High pulls are great for traps but you need to know how to do that right too. Your 800 pound shrug doesn’t impress others who know what they are doing, maybe to the mindless fool who has no clue your a god; the rest of us think your a joke.
Deadlifts, love those vids of everybody rolling thier lower back. Its not the quantity of the weight you move its how you move it. The guy lifting less weight but using the correct form will pass you up when your laying in bed at home after having the discs in your lower back fused together. Buy a good belt too, not for your lower back; belts help keep your intiestines from blowing out of your abdominal wall.
Everything about bodybuilding is self education and experimentation. It takes time, with time you will gain experience and with experience comes progress. Its a good idea for everybody to find out how your joints and muscles REALLY WORK, don’t listen to your average slim shady nymrob just because they have a few veins on thier forearm. Most trainers don’t know crap either, if your trainer has a gut you may want to reconsider your self investment. Does it even look like your trainer has picked up a weight in the past year? Buy/Pick up multiple books and read, not just any exercise book either; start with a book on kinesiology.
Good Luck!
