When LIFE gets in the way…

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Today is a new beginning (again). Due to illness, re-fracturing my foot, a separation, moving into an apartment, and both my co-workers being out on FMLA for almost 6 weeks, I haven’t been working out regularly or eating clean.  Time to change that!  Seems my life will only continue to get more chaotic as time goes by, and not being in the gym - - not following my nutritional plan (see?? I didn’t use the dreaded "D" word!) DOES NOT MAKE IT LESS CHAOTIC!!  I’m finally convinced that working out and staying in contact with Team Poynter and my BB.com friends is the ONLY way to keep balance!  So…..I’m BACK to STAY !

Pet Peeve ~ gym toilets

Friday, May 8th, 2009

:-p Honest this post isn’t that graphic!

Not sure why it bothers me, and maybe I’m the ONLY one who’s noticed (ladies help me out here!) butt (pun intended)…….

Seems to me most toilets in ladies rest rooms have one thing in common (ok, more than one, but bare with me), the handle is always on the left side (if your facing the apparatus).  So it’s become habit to complete your business, reach behind with your right hand, and flush.

NOT SO AT MY GYM!  the handle is on the opposite side of the toilet!  WTF?  really?  now, maybe in the grand scheme of things this really isn’t a serious issue. But, I am a habit of creature. And my habit is to unconsciously push the flusher (wait, is that a word?) with my right hand.  I’m having SERIOUS issues using the toilets at my gym :-p  I’m at the point where I’m checking all the toilets in various ladies room at places I visit (work, friends homes, restaurants, bars) and yet………..my gym is the ONLY place I’ve found where things are not as they should be.

Hhhmmm, maybe I should spend more time in the weight room than in the ladies locker room :)

Killing me softly with ….. Baclava

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

I’m sitting at my desk, reading thru bodyspace blogs, getting inspired, thinking about how good I’ve been doing with my workouts and nutrition lately (yay me!), when someone comes to my desk with a bag in her hands.

Just a little background, people EAT around here. Not just once in a while or on special occasions. No, I mean they really EAT…like all the time! Every meeting has pastries or donuts. One department always has 5 people bringing in casseroles and desserts (which they just HAVE to heat up in the lunch room!) at least once or twice a week. Every other desk has chocolate or some form of candy on it (lol we have wasbi peas in my office!)
And then there’s Mama S (names have been changed to protect the innocent).  She’s the mother of one of our managers.  And I truly believe her purpose in life is to bake!  And ZOMG is this woman an excellent cook! She makes everyone a cake on their birthday, bakes DOZENS of cookies at Christman, brings in sheets of cupcakes…just cause she felt like baking that morning…..you name it, Mama S makes it.

Silly me, happened to mention once that I love baclava  (for thoses who don’t know baclava is a rich Middle Eastern cake made of thin layers of flaky pastry filled with nuts and honey, usually cut into tiny squares).  So again….I’m at my desk when her daughter appears with a bag in her hands….

My mind starts its mantra (please don’t be baclava, please don’t be baclava).  She slowly unwraps the plate hidden in the bag…………to reveal a plate of baclava….  baked that morning by Mama S cause she knows I love baclava.   My hands quivered as I reached for the plate…………..

Alas, I caved to the Baclava gods. I couldn’t resist their seductive call.  But on a good note, I did only have two small pieces in two day.  One day, victory will be mine over the baclava gods!  For now its extra cardio for me today ………

21’s AKA Just Shoot Me Nows!

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

So I decided to incorporate 21’s into my arm workout yesterday.  All I can say is ZOMG!!  What an incredible, awesome, intense exercise.  My arms are seriously P.O’d at me right now!

If you haven’t tried 21’s, DO SO!  Your arms may hate you, but WOW do they work! :)

Oh the Irony

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

So I talked to the recruiter today.  And wouldn’t ya know it……..the DAY I bought the Clauddagh ring is the day they changed the requirements for non-previous military enlistments.  So that door is closed shut forever.  More like slammed shut.

And now I’m thinking how pathetic it is to wear a ring I bought for myself, knowing the meaning behind it.  Well, at least it wasn’t expensive.

Weekend w/out gym, Thinking of Enlisting, and Claddagh Rings

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

:( I didn’t workout at all this weekend. Went to the gym on Friday, but working shoulders started to bother my ribs again, so I had to stop.

I called a National Guard recruiter today to talk about enlisting.  Not sure yet how that’s going to play out. I had thought about enlisting before but was talked out of it.  My life would have been much different if I had enlisted then. I know I wouldn’t be going thru any of the things I am right now if I had chosen that path.  I’ve thought about more than once, and now I feel like this might be the right time or the last time I may have the chance.

Lately due to a lot of things going on in my life, I’ve been either feeling very down or stuffing all my feelings (literally putting them down on paper and carrying them in a small silver box I wear around my neck) and putting on a brave face.  Having a really hard time with that today.  The weekends are so much harder as I don’t have work or the gym to focus on.  Lol I’m the only person I know who doesn’t like the weekends.

Against knowing that I shouldn’t have, I bought a Claddagh ring yesterday…for myself. Traditionally they are to be purchased for a friend or love. And it’s supposed to be very bad luck to purchase one for yourself.  I knew that.  But I really wanted one and have never received one. There’s a little more to why I wanted one now, but that’s one of those things that are in my little ‘box’.  Maybe it will have the opposite effect and bring me good luck?

Lets Get This Party Started

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Ok, so I’m sitting at my desk at work BORED out of my mind!!!  Hour and a half before I can leave for the gym and I want to go NOW!!!  Want to get the weekend started :0

Decided I need to get hardcore and serious about my goals so ………  (pause for effect) I need to stop having a few ‘adult beverages’ on the weekend.  Shocking, I know! :-p  So this is my last weekend of having ‘fun’ on the weekends and I want to go out with a BANG!  :D  and since I’m allowed one cheat meal on my CHA diet (and have been so good and haven’t had one in two weeks (Yay me!) I’m hitting Five Guys for a burger and the WORLDS BEST FRIES after the gym.

Lets Get This Party Started ! Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Medieval SuperHero Pops Rib….In Her Sleep

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Catchy, isn’t it?   Yes, I managed to pop my ribs in my sleep (again!) night before last.  My Chiropractor loves me!!!!

The ironic part?  The night before, I had a dream that I was in England, during the Dark Ages, and was the leader of a band of rebels.  My superpower seemed to be that I could ‘freeze’ people :)  So I’m running thru the streets and tunnels of London, saving my peeps and I wake up feeling great!  (I mean, who wouldn’t, right?)

But the next night, no dream, no superpower….and I roll over an pop a rib!

I rock like that :)
(Hopefully my tales of woe has brightened someones day and caused a chuckle)

Need some advice…

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I started the CHA diet and ATS workout from Team SciVation last week (diet last week, started w/o this week).  I’ve done great with the diet and have stuck to it to a ‘T’.  And I dropped 5.7# in the first week. Most of which I assume is water weight.
For some odd reason, I decided to try Hydroxycut also.  Thought a little extra help would be good. I don’t have a lot of weight to lose, just want to drop bf % and lean out.  However, I’ve been on the HC since Saturday (having no probs with it)…..but I jumped on the scale this morning (i know! dumb!)………….and I’m down another 4+ pounds.  Since Friday!!  :-/

Now DONT GET ME WRONG!  I’m glad for the loss, but that’s almost 10# in 10 days!  I doubled checked with a few scales here at work (lol you wouldn’t believe how many scales are in this building!!)  and they’re all reading the same thing, within a pound.

Is taking the HC along with the improved diet and workout TOO much? Is there such a thing as TOO much?  I feel great, not gittery, plenty of energy…. IDK? Suggestions?

Thanks !
