Killing me softly with ….. Baclava
I’m sitting at my desk, reading thru bodyspace blogs, getting inspired, thinking about how good I’ve been doing with my workouts and nutrition lately (yay me!), when someone comes to my desk with a bag in her hands.
Just a little background, people EAT around here. Not just once in a while or on special occasions. No, I mean they really EAT…like all the time! Every meeting has pastries or donuts. One department always has 5 people bringing in casseroles and desserts (which they just HAVE to heat up in the lunch room!) at least once or twice a week. Every other desk has chocolate or some form of candy on it (lol we have wasbi peas in my office!)
And then there’s Mama S (names have been changed to protect the innocent). She’s the mother of one of our managers. And I truly believe her purpose in life is to bake! And ZOMG is this woman an excellent cook! She makes everyone a cake on their birthday, bakes DOZENS of cookies at Christman, brings in sheets of cupcakes…just cause she felt like baking that morning…..you name it, Mama S makes it.
Silly me, happened to mention once that I love baclava (for thoses who don’t know baclava is a rich Middle Eastern cake made of thin layers of flaky pastry filled with nuts and honey, usually cut into tiny squares). So again….I’m at my desk when her daughter appears with a bag in her hands….
My mind starts its mantra (please don’t be baclava, please don’t be baclava). She slowly unwraps the plate hidden in the bag…………to reveal a plate of baclava…. baked that morning by Mama S cause she knows I love baclava. My hands quivered as I reached for the plate…………..
Alas, I caved to the Baclava gods. I couldn’t resist their seductive call. But on a good note, I did only have two small pieces in two day. One day, victory will be mine over the baclava gods! For now its extra cardio for me today ………

I mean there was really nothing you could do. How can you say no to Momma…..when she got up early that morning especially to make that treat especially for you. That a foot in the bear trap situation right there. Nothing to do but lick your wounds…..which by the sound of it was pretty tasty. :)

Mmmmmm, I love baklava. Way to go Deb, only 2 in 2 days. They would never have seen the light of day with yours truly. POOF! Empty bag, me smacking my lips.
Now get in the gym & burn those calories. If you don’t, then drop & give me 50 push-ups, NOW! :D

Next time you should take that baclava, throw it in her face and yell "Why are you trying to ruin my life?"
Or just eat it, enjoy it, and consider it your cheat meal for the week.
I’d take option two personally, but then, I barely know you, so if option 1 is more your speed, I promise not to judge you.

Al ~ LOL thanks for the motivation, but I LOVE push-ups! If you’d said pull-ups, that would have been a different story ! :)

Sounds like you handled it really well and virtually unscathed. I hope you are well.
