Motivation vs. Roadblocks which one is stronger?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

What motivates you and what is a roadblock to your success?

I am just asking this for some feedback, because on my journey there are a lot of things that motivate me.  There are some things that can hinder what I am trying to do.

Motivation- I am motivated by not being fat anymore, I am motivated by being healthy, and to be honest I am motivated to have that “wow” factor again.

For me the motivation at times in easy.  I look at a picture from when I was in better shape and one from prior to January and it motivates me to get in the gym.  Then the Roadblock(s) come in.

My roadblock(s) are time and progress.  I have never had this far to go to get back into what I consider “great shape”.  Add to that I am very impatient, and I also compare all the time.  Compare myself to others.  I have people telling me that I look great now (having lost 33 lbs), but I know I would look even better at 238 (down another 37 lbs).

The fact that it took me 7 months to lose 33 on one hand is great because I am in it for the long haul.  The other hand it took seven months, and to lose another 37 seems like an eternity away.

Does my motivation outweigh my roadblock?

I am curious to hear from others.  What motivated you and what hinders you?

My Hybrid Program

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

I have been counting calories, protein, carbs and fats like the rest of you.  I was seeing the numbers in my sleep at times.  I was really getting bored with it and stopped doing it altogehter.  As we all know you have to track thisng somehow or you will see no progress.  That is when I came up with my Hybrid theory.

My wife is currently doing weight watchers and is having great success with it.  To answer your next question no I do n ot eat her weight wathcers meals.  We cook our own meals and still eat together.  That makes sense as she is trying to lose weight and I am trying to lose fat and gain/maintain muscle.

If any of you have ever talked to a WWC (Weight Watchers Clone.. I tease her that they are liek a cult) they swear by this point system.  Unless you are in the program it will n ot make sense.  What was interestign is that they do not count all of the stuff people on this site do they put fat, calories and fiber into some calculator and figure out how many point the meal is worth.  After finding that out I had an idea, what if I used the WW principle and adapted it to my needs (muscle maintenance and fat loss)

I figured out how many points I get per day and how many activity points I get per workout.   For me my hybrid system is  new way to count what I am eating, teaching me I needed more fiber, helping me out of a rut as I have lost 3 lbs since starting this last week.  I also must note that I am still taking in a minimum of 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.

I will never be a WW Clone (although it really does work for people, and my wife loves it.), but the principles are spot on.
