Starving yourself??
I recently did a paper on eating disorders and while doing research I was shocked at the number of people who have them. I focused primarily on anorexia and here are some interesting facts.
Don’t let society/media tell you what "beautiful" should look like…Love yourself and love life
*In a 1996 poll that was conducted showed that young girls are more afraid of becoming fat than they are of nuclear war, cancer, or losing their parents
*Many diets that people follow today have fewer calories than were given to the women in concentration camps.
* In the United States alone there are 7 million girls and 1 million boys who struggle with anorexia, according to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders.
*The estimated rate of mortality due to anorexia is between 10 to 20%, which is the highest percentage out of any other mental disorder
*In a 1997 study the results showed that 43% of the men involved in the survey said that they were unhappy with their overall appearance
*If Barbie were human her measurements would be a 39” chest, 21” waist, and 33” hips and her legs being out of proportion to her body
*L.K.G. Hsu a researcher said that 40 to 50% of anorexics never really completely recover
*Currently hospital treatments have been successful but the relapse rate of patients is 30 to 50% within the first year
Just some things to think about.. It’s sickening that rates have increased and there are many more shocking statistics but these were just a few I thought I would share. If you have a problem GET HELP! There is nothing to be ashamed of…you only get one life so why not make the best of it??
Lets work on building self esteem in children and young adults and raise a HEALTHY (mentally & physically) nation.

Great post.
It’s all about a healthy lifestyle, not numbers on a measuring tape. Unless your competing of course. lol

I agree we need a healthier mentality all around but we as a society will have to stop listening to advertising and marketing. Beauty and sex sells to the vast majority unfortunately.

its true that most anorexics never fully recover… its more about just learning to cope with it and to go by pictures to assess how you look instead of a mirror or scale
i still hate how i look but i know my body is in the best shape its ever been in
