Best Dr’s Apt ever! :)

August 8, 2008

Omg soooo cooool! So I went to the Naturopathic dr today, Tony, he was awesome! We did these cool muscle test by me pushing against his his hand and sometimes it would be weak and i couldn’t resist against the his pressure, which meant that there is a deficiency some place,..hard to explain, but really cool! Tony told me that my lab results from last week showed the my Cortisol levels were REALLY high,(which the dip shit dr b4 told me it was really good range)  Tony also said that my Cholesterol levels were REALLY low. Wow just shows me the dr previous was an idiot.

Tony said that i’m a classic case of Adrenal burnout/fatigue. What happens he said is that the adrenals go and then it pulls your thyroid down, your liver, kidneys, they are all intertwined and then you get hypo symptoms and low thyorid levels because your adrenals are trying to recruite everything else. Soooo..after spending 2 hrs there getting cool tests done using my body and some accupuncture, and vitamins, he told me that he can perscribe Armour(which i’m on now) but wants me off of it because its’ the adrenals that need help. So he gave me a lot of adrenal supps and my next apt is in a month. So according to how things go in a month he might incorporate Armour again or I might just not even need it.. VERY COOL!!

The bad news…He said that he wants me to take a vacation from the gym for 3 weeks…NO WEIGHTS..  I get to do cardio, 3x a week of 30-45 mins and my HR can’t go higher than 120 beats.. wow..that’s low. He said that currently w/ me training i’m just doing more damage and releasing moer cortisol which makes Reverse t3 and blocks the conversion of your t4 to t3! I learned so much today. I feel so great after leaving there w/ all this info. He also said to take the complex carbs out of my diet and do vegg/protein/fats..to keep my blood sugar stable so kinda like keto i guess..?? unlimited greens though. So we’ll see how things go, I go back next month Sept 9th, very excited about it :)

Thank you everyone for your kind words and support it really means a lot to me!! & Thanks Sonja for the referral :)

Naturopath Dr. Appointment!

August 6, 2008

Wooo.. so I decided to give it a go:)  Frogprincess72’s brother in law who is a naturopathic doctor who has many other neat qualifications as well! I gave him a call today and felt really comfortable talking to him just over the phone.  He really listened and when I finished describing what has been done w/ the previous dr.  He started saying how we need to look further into other things going on in my body as to why my thyroid levels are low.. THANK YOU!!!  I swear it was like pulling teeth just to get my first dr to even check to see if my adrenals were working.. (which he only did one test)

Tony was great, he was also considerate that i’m an out of town client and wants to make my office visits longer so more can get done instead of me driving back and forth so often and paying gas etc.  I’m very excited about this.  He also said that he doesn’t just go by test/lab numbers like so many dr’s do, he goes by the patients SYMPTOMS and how they are feeling too.. what a relief!  :)   So I’m really looking forward to Friday and what it has to bring.

There is light at the end of the tunnel:)

Dr’s apt #3 about Meds/Lab results!

August 5, 2008
Thyroid Appointment update :)

So this morning I went into the Dr. I thought the guy I have been seeing was an Endocrinologist but no he’s “internal medicine” whatever..anyways.. Basically my labs came out as Jason & I predicted.. My T4’s were slightly elevated still VERY low, but my T3’s had not changed..GO FIGURE.. It’s because my freaking T4’s were NOT converting to T3 which is the metabolism part..and yes i’ve gained more,3 lbs in 2 weeks.. GREAT :( The whole appointment was the dr contradicting himself and basically told me that he doesn’t feel comfortable moving forward and doesn’t really know what to do.. uuhh.. that gives me even more confidence in him???-NOT!…. He said he is going to refer me to an Endocrinologist who is in the same building..I don’t think I’m going to go see him and will go to Portland instead. I’ve had enough of Corvallis Dr’s.. The good news though is that he caved in and gave me Armour Thyroid(dried pigs gland that is made into a pill)at 60mgs. This atleast has both T4/T3- 80% T4, and 20% T3,I guess humans we only produce ~10% T3 .. so we’ll see what happens.Cliffs:
1) DR doesn’t really know what he’s doing
2)Gave me what I wanted for Meds a T4/T3 prod
3)Going to see a REAL endocrinologist probably up in Portland
4)Pray to god this works cuz i’m tired of looking like Miss Piggy:)

Hypothyroidism..

August 2, 2008

So I decided that I would write a blog and keep it updated when new updates come about progress, how i’m feeling, medication changes..etc.

From all the reading I have done lately it’s unreal about how many ppl are hypothyroid and don’t know it!

Here are some symptoms:

My symptoms I bolded

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
Coarse, dry hair
Dry, rough pale skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance (can’t tolerate the cold like those around you)
Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
Constipation
Depression(only because of the weight gain and feeling tired, very frustrating)
Irritability
Memory loss/Brain fog
Abnormal menstrual cycles
Hard to concentrate

I didnt know that I had a thyroid problem, I have been training hard, eating clean dieting for over 30 some odd weeks, cardios, double cardios..etc.  Still NO Weight loss and my weight was actually increasing which it should not have been w/ all that i was doing.  My trainer/friend finally said that I needed to get some blood work done because my symptoms got really bad in June.  I would take 2 naps a day and wake up still really tired, I still went to the gym and did my best.

The first dr. I went to didnt’ really listen to me w/ my symptoms and I dont think took me seriously, he only ran a TSH test, anemia, and Vit D deficiency test.. helllooooo.. I asked him to check my thyorid, hormone levels..the full meal deal, and he did not.  We were very frustrated.  So then I moved on and went to a diff dr an endocrinologist, suer enough my levels were very low and he perscribed me Levothyroxine @ 50mcg’s on July 8th.  I didn’t realize at the time all the diff meds and about how T4’s convert to T3 and that’s how your metabolism is affected etc. I was so happy to have meds thinking that I would feel better.  Well that didnt’ happen, still feel like crap, tired, fatigued but am still working out and dieting.  Despite all of that i’ve gained 10lbs in a months time.. which is just unreal.  I went in 2 weeks ago w/ my friends Jphillips17 and hollandc to the dr to tell him that i’m not feeling any better and my weight is rising and this is very depressing to see.  Jason pressed the endo to test my adrenals which he wasn’t going to do..helllooo dr get a clue.  Hashimoto does run in my family w/ my moms sister, the dr didnt’ even check to see if it was Hashimoto either.. UGGHHH… So Tuesday Aug 5th is my next appt and Cat & Jason will be coming w/ me again luckily.  We are demanding T3 to be added to my T4!!!  Either Cytomel or switching meds to Armour Thyroid.  If this DR will not then I will leave and find another dr who will.

If you go in for blood work make sure the DR runs your t4/t3 panels as well..not just a TSH, my TSH was "normal" but my t4/t3’s were very low! Also make suer to do your reading/research, I have learned so much in just this month I feel that I will get this taken care of and will not just sit quietly in the dr’s office and keep getting crappy meds that are not working for me! :)

I’m so lucky to have such great friends who are helping me through this Jphillips17 & hollandc are the best ppl I know & I’m very thankful for them!!! :)
