New Year and New Goals!
Sunday, January 13th, 2008After a long layoff from the blogs due to the holiday season/post-exam stress, I’m finally back on target!
I finished my lean bulk and whilst I didn’t gain 10lbs, after a christmas binge of everything I could eat that looked edible (I don’t even want to guess at the calorie intake during the two days of christmas day and boxing day, lets just say it’s easily up in 10,000+).
It was a cruel slap in the face at the fact that I do gain weight very easily and after those two days of nothing less than binging I was looking pretty soft around the abs and feeling like a cut was in order!
To cut a long story short, I didn’t have the money/access to a fully-equipped gym so I had to make do with a small set of spinlock dumbells, a barbell with a few weights and my imagination!
Shockingly these were some of the best workouts I have ever done! I couldn’t isolate my muscle groups as much as in the gym (no bench etc) so I concentrated on developing my breakdancing strength by doing isometric holds (some of the hardest exercises you can do), pushup variations, bent over rows, front squats, pistols (killer!) tricep dips (on the stairs!) and handstand pushups/overhead presses.
After the month off and 2 kgs of fat loss later I’m looking much leaner, a little bigger suprisingly (my lean bulk must have paid off a little bit!) and have a new goal for 2008…
Whilst I was at home I found that I enjoyed and got more satisfaction from the strength work than bodybuilding in terms of breakdancing performance. Since breakdancing seems to have taken over my life currently, I want to do all I can to improve my moves so I’ve shifted my focus to a strength/power workout, a far cry from the bodybuilding I’ve been doing for years!
Let’s hope it goes well for me, the cut continues and my first competition is in 4 weeks!
