Skip legs? prepare for your runs to suck wind
So the last leg workout I did was last Thursday, yes nearly a week off from legs is a bad thing. I kept making excuses and though I did occupy my time with studying and busywork there was no excuse for neglecting them that long.
I ran the local 5k race today in downtown. 23:30. Decent time right? Especially for a guy who has to re-acclimate to the altitude due to being gone for 8 months at sea level.
Well let me tell you I felt like a pack-a-day-smoker running those 3.1 miles. That sucks winds. But worse was the realization that my leg muscles were tired!!! They felt heavy and out of sync, not strong and supple like they have the two previous weeks. The heavy, weighted, sore feeling was a consequence of my neglect. Even when I trained for a marathon in 2007 I still did leg workouts three times a week in order to keep them strong so they could endure the heavy mileage.
So for everyone who has ever neglected their legs, say it with me:
"I promise never to neglect my legs again. If I do, I know that when I run I will be faced with pain, soreness, and heaviness of body and soul. Hereafter, I will keep my legs strong and ready because without them I am nothing."
Stay strong folks….

Aah, the dreaded running! I personally hate it with a passion. I do it only when I feel really guilty about missing a cardio session. Good for you gettin’er done!
And yes to the promise! Our legs deserve good, hard, punishing workouts!
