I’ll "ghost compete". Not officially enter, but set the goal for myself anyway. I’ve heard of some runners doing this in certain races; starting just after the start line and going off the course right before finish so they don’t have to pay racing fees and what not. Not a practice I condone on the racing realm. However……
Competing officially in an online contest would be great, except for this nugget here:
By submitting an entry, you grant to the Sponsor and its agents the right in perpetuity to reproduce, publish, and use your Pictures, Essay, name, biographical information, and opinions in any way, in any and all media, without limitation and without further compensation. By submitting an entry, you warrant that you have the ability to grant the aforementioned rights to the Sponsor and its agents.
With what I want to do, I can’t have that happening. I can’t sign over complete control of that information forever (perpetuity). I may never compete in any contest until I leave the military because of it but if that’s the case, so be it. Ghost competitions until I find a new line of work.
At first I wasn’t going to compete at all but I remember that I can still compete with myself, if not for the $50,000. Besides, why use an excuse to keep you from achieving something you want? The money isn’t that important. My lifelong health and fitness IS that important.
Who will judge/criteque me?? You guys of course!!!
