Football cancelled.  BIG LIFT IS ON!

Protein, football, and question

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

I decided to get the 2lb tub of ON WHEY Chocolate Mint.  It has the most servings per price and can fit my budget right now.  Since the tub is only 30 servings, I will be able to try another protein close to the start of the year.  Thanks for all the recommendations!  I have some new stuff lined up to try.

Football game tonight.  We’re playing the same team we did for Turkey Bowl, except now it’s official.  Should be another good one.  I won’t be playing Ironman since our cornerback will be able to play.

Right now I’m taking NO-Xplode pre-workout and CellTech Hardcore post workout.  I bought a small tub of Scviation XTEND and I’m wondering if anyone stacks NO with this product?  Does the use of Glutamine, luecine, etc, during workout diminish the effects of NO?  Thanks

Turkey football, Turkey dinner, Turkey lift

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Yes in the American tradition and spirit, we played a good round of touch football.  Lost 4-3.  Tough game, I had my first TD of the season but also broke coverage on a WR with the consequence of a TD for the opposing team. *sigh* it happens.  Dropped an easy pass too but had a couple good ones.  It feels good to play with everyone here, real teambuilding taking place.  Gives us something to look forward to besides the gym.  The gym can be cumbersome on the mind if you don’t mix it up.

Turkey dinner was freakin sweet.  Smiling faces with their plates loaded with food.  Good times serving those folks.  I had a piece of cake, since I allow myself dessert only on the holidays.  I figured the 5k trot and the football and my evening lift would more than make up for it.

Turkey lift….not what i hoped.  It started well enough.  Made sweet gains on my military press, my front lateral raises, and my shrugs.  Went to legs and wouldn’t ya know my left knee said "no freakin way" on the leg extension.  The LEG EXTENSION! I felt like a puss, re-adjusted the seat, lightened the weight, made sure I was using good form…nope.  nothing doing.  All the pressure was on that knee. Didn’t feel right, didnt act right. So I decided to stick with calves and hamstrings.  Did some bodyweight lunges just to stretch it out, went to lying leg curls, and then leg press calf raises.  That was it.  I’ve got more months until training and a busted knee is not what I’m after.  I’ll hit it good on Sunday.

Happy thanksgiving!  If you are thankful for someone, let them know it.  Life is short.  You don’t want to miss your chance.

Turkey Trot

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving.  Celebrated with a 5K run, finishing in 21:38.  Not too bad since it’s my 3rd run of the deployment.  Guess there will be a few more. Just have to get used to running with 15 extra pounds on my frame.  I love bulking :)

morning run

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

So I’ve added a 2.5 mile three times a week to my routine. As much as I want to completely cut cardio out of my workouts until February, the Army ain’t having none of that.  If I get to be big, great….but I still have to be a big guy who can MOVE! (move=RUN!).  So yeah, that’s what I did this morning.  I ran.  I itched.  I felt twinges of pain and tightness in my quads, my lower back, my knees.  All can be attributed to my cross-trainers, whereas on Friday I will certainly wear my Brooks running shoes.  Running doesn’t come natural, but with practice, it grows on me.  I couldn’t believe it when I actually completed the Denver Marathon in 2007.  I know I can run….it’s a perishable skill, like anything else.  Unless you practice, you won’t get better.  So running equals practice.  And in my job, practice means EVERYTHING!

Road Trip

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

So far I’ve got two places marked on the map.  I won’t divulge those place to protect the innocent (or should I say the guilty? lol)  Anyways, i’m looking forward to driving across the US next summer, meeting some great people and having some great workouts!

Let it flow. don’t hold it in

Anger destroys.  Rage kills.  It’s unhealthy.  It’s destructive.  It causes pain to us and everyone around us.

The key is to channel the anger into something useful.  Into something worthwhile.  Into energy.  Into POSITIVE energy.

No reason to explain why I felt enraged tonight.  I just was.   Madder than a bull at a rodeo.  Full of piss and vinegar.  So I went to the gym early and waited on my crew.  I sat, mixed my NO-Xplode and sipped.  Then I started.  Pullups, Pushups, Rows, Pulldowns, Curls.   I told my crew I wanted to go heavy and lift hard.  Don’t yell, don’t scream, just tell me to man up and spot so I won’t quit.

It was fast and furious and I was drench with sweat by the end.  But I’m happy now.  I see growth.  I see plateau’s busted.  I see new personal bests set.  And all because I turned a little bit of anger into something positive.

Give your anger an outlet people! Lift hard and feel great!

Extra abs

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

I missed most of last night’s abs session but I caught the last 20 minutes.  I’ll be doing extra sets tonight with my workout partner.  Legs and shoulders went decent.  Got another care package in the mail so my diet is once again tempted to digress from being clean.  Good thing I can pass the cookies around.

Great article on weight loss

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

All it takes is focus, determination, and a goal.  Don’t let anything stop you.  It wasn’t easy for this guy, but he lost 140 pounds to reach his goal.  What’s your goal?

blown workout

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Started late and I forgot about shrugs.  How the heck did I forget SHRUGS?!?! Dang it!!

It wasn’t totally blown.  I haven’t memorized this new workout I created yet so I better bring the paper with me to the gym for a couple weeks until we get rolling.  Still got a decent workout, not a whole lot of sweat.  Almost felt like I was going through the motions but it was still challenging on the higher rep sets.  Not my best workout, but not my worst either.

Edit: just remember that I have abs class tomorrow. Smoke session once again.  Shoulders and Legs tomorrow. Rock on!
