Thanksgiving 5K, 25:26

Well, I’ve got to figure out what’s been going on between my ears.  I haven’t run in 10 days.  Whatever progress I’d made in October and the first 2 weeks of November were washed out.  Today, I got my lazy butt out of bed, and toed the start line for a Thanksgiving 5K which benefitted the local food shelf.  It 37F, 3C and windy for the 11:00 start.   A crowd of about 500 runners were on hand to race, and support the food shelf.  This was the same course where I ran a 24:47, 5 weeks ago.  I tried to relax and concentrate on my form, but throughout the race people kept on passing me.  I finished in 25:26, 40 seconds slower than 5 weeks ago.  Time to get my head on straight.

Hi my friend … I hope ur holiday has been full of smiles.
I am reviewing my mail that has been accumulated - and I feel awful that I have not been around and read your blog from a bit ago. However I am happy to hear that you are kicking bootie in the fitness area.
G-D bless and many warm wishes and smiles
    deb :)

Don’t be too disappointed or hard on yourself. You probably haven’t lost all your fitness progress in just 10 days. It’s hard to set a PR in the wind — I had a hard time in the wind during my 30K race 3 weeks ago.
Take some time to assess what you think is going on and how you can adjust it. One recommendation I would make –tentatively, because I don’t know the circumstances as well as you do — is not to be too hard on yourself about the goals you set. Set goals you are reasonably confident you can achieve. If you are running 5Ks in the 24:47-25 minute range, set a goal of running a 23 minute 5K in the spring, or something like that. Or focus on something other than running if deep down that’s not what motivates you. You’ve done great so far.
Hope you otherwise enjoyed Thanksgiving. I ran with my family in the Run for the Hungry yesterday and had a good time. It was the first time we had all run in a race together.

1st, glad to hear the running shoes were back on. As for your disappointment, you can have lemons or make lemonade. Let those extra 40 seconds fuel your efforts.

Maybe its time to just KISS your efforts and just go RUN because you can! Perhaps some road time without a watch?
