Day 5 of BFL

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I can truely say that today, I’ve got a few very sore muscles, but this is to be expected! Normally when I start training again after a long lay off, 5 months in this case, I still think that I can lift the same as 5 months ago. Today the legs are sore and calfs is very sore indeed.

The legs stiffness if from the running, which I’m totally not use to! My not a runner, but would rather do it in the fresh air, than do endless steps or something similar in the gym. the gym also has a running track, and I think I’ll try that next week, to see how that goes. It might just be better on the knees and the rest of the body as well.

A big suprise is that my triceps is very sore after Thursdays training. I tried a new machine at the gym, which I’ve never seen before, but I’m calling it the seated tricep extension machine. Looks similar to a bicep curl machine, but you extend your arms instead of curling them. Man does this work your lower triceps!!!

Yesterday, I could not even touch my face with my right hand, so stiff my arms were, but today is better.

During the week, there was some nagging thoughts, that will I make it, should I have a backup plan, but every eveing in the gym, I see the poster of last years winner of BFL, and I realize, that I might be in worse shape than he was when I started this week, but there is NOTHING stopping me, of looking similar or even better after 12 weeks! The only thing stopping me, would be me!

I think that on Monday, I got the best motivational quote and also on the right day : From McNab’s daily quotes

Only you can change your life. No one can do it for you.

Thats me for today

First day of the rest of my life

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Well today is the day. I’ve been slacking as always, and the kilos have been adding on and the pant sizes just keep getting bigger. This morning, I noticed that I had move up 1 notch on by belt. The size 36 pants are also sitting tight and these pants are suppose to be a lose fit.

That’s it, if I didn’t start today, I would probably need to go and shop for size 38 from now onwards. That is just not going to happen. I would like to shop for size 34 again, and just maybe get down to size 32, where I was about 20 years ago! But I’ll be very happy with 34!

Last night I could not sleep, had a bit of wine Sunday evening, just to have my last alcohol for a while, but even the wine didn’t help me to sleep. I was awake quite a bit during the night, I don’t know if its nerves, but I do think so. I was awake very early as well, seeing that I need to go and do cardio in the mornings and weights in the evenings, so need to get a very early start to the day.

So, got up at 5h30 to go for my first run in many years. I really don’t like running. There was a time in my life when I enjoyed it, but I was in the army and used to go for a 8km run about every second day, on my own free will, but that was many years ago and I was very fit at that stage as well. Would like to get back into that shape, but would probably only manage a 2-3 km a day.

For my first run, I did 1.7km. I know not a lot, but it was enough for me. I found that I can even walk a few hundred meters without being out of breath. Well as for the run, I think I managed about 100m before I had to stop, and walk for a bit. I did the 1.7km, in about 10 mins, but there was really a lot of walking as well. It turned into, run for 1 lamppost walk for 1 lamppost. Actually went a little better that I thought it would, and found that I was pushing a bit. I was very short of breath as well during the run.

So, for the next 12 weeks at least, I’m getting my food delivered to me, doing cardio and weights (Oh yes, MAX-OT program) and telling everybody about my journey to a better body.

I’ll be putting my pictures on to the website tonight, and I think that there is nothing more intimidating than that! BUT, I do know that I’ll be putting up pictures at least every week, and they will look better and better every week.

This was just a few thoughts, hate writing / blogging, so please don’t expect lengthy blog everyday, but I will update the page with the details of that day.

Please feel free to leave any comments.

Thanks

Chris Stuart
