UFC 96 Results!

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Donlon

Well fight fans Saturday night UFC 96 brought us some great fights. Some incredible knockouts lead up to a much underrated Jackson vs Jardine.

Many of the pre-fight rumors and predictions were that Jackson was going to run right through Jardine with a first or second round knockout. Jardien came in looking good and his unorthodox style seemed to worked enough to make it a very interesting fight. So next up for Jackson is a Title match against Evans, can’t wait to see that one.

Bodybuilding.com was right there ring side throughout the whole event, so check out the play-by-play/results right here.

Quinton Jackson vs. Keith Jardine

Here we go!!!!!!!!!!

Rampage has the look of someone who just found the dude that had sex with his wife or something like that.  He has the coldest look on his face, just staring at Dean without emotion.  He has a look is gonna make babies cry on his face.  Can’t wait to see what happens…

Rd. 1

Quinton moves in like a tiger looking a deer in the savanna.  Fighters go into clinch.    Dean moves forward.  Rampage looks very relaxed.  Dean is circling him using the entire octagon.   Dean goes for the take down by Rampage stuffs it.  Dean goes for the 1 leg take down but can’t get it.  Fighters go into clinch.  Crowd starts booing.  They wanna see a war!  Quick left short jab from Dean.  Dean throws a right a finger goes into Rampages eye a little.  Nothing major…  Quinton gets a short hook and Dean stumbles, Quinton goes after but Dean moves.  Leg kick but Quinton catches it.  Left hook from rampage hits Dean but he keeps moving.  Nice front kick from Dean.  Both fighters are throwing lots of wild punches.  Chuck Liddell style….  Fighters go into clinch against the cage.   End of round 1.

Rd. 2

Nice right cross from Quinton.  Quinton is really bobbing around, moving his head good.  Nice uppercut doesn’t land very solid from Dean.  Straight left from Dean stops Dean in his tracks.  Left leg kick followed by right straight from Dean.  Nice left from Quinton hits Dean on the chin, another and Dean is on the ground.  Quinton is going crazy trying to keep him there but Dean gets to his feet quickly!   Dean using the right leg kick that Forrest took him out with.  Quinton goes for the shoot and gets Dean to the ground, but dean gets up quickly again.  Quinton not looking as focused as he was in the first round.  Dean starting to drop his hands, not a good sign.  Looking exhausted already.  Dean gets a left leg kick right to Quinton’s nuts, but he takes it like a solider.  Dean is starting to bring the mean out, Rampage is hurt and throwing wild punches.   He is feeling the Mean now!   Nice left from Quinton right no Deans chin.  Dean looks very tired, dropping his hands more and more.  The fighters are against the cage and they are throwing wild punches.  Wow, this is what we wanted!

Rd. 3

The crowd is going crazy!  Both fighters go quickly into the middle of the ring, they want a war!  Dean bringing his hands up a little more.  Nice straight right from Dean.   Dean goes for a right cross and Quinton ducks and takes Dean down via a double hook.  Dean stands up while holding rampage, what a soldier!  Dean starting to bleed more out of his left eye, looking very tired.  As the lady says next to me, kick him in the head Jardine! ROFL.    She has said it at least 100 times.  Nice straight right rocks Quinton a little.  Nice upper cut from Dean.  Quinton looks tired and isn’t putting much power in his punches.  Nice uppercut and a left from Dean and Quinton swallows…. Dean goes for the take down but just gets him against the cage and they fighters go into clinch. Ref brings them to middle stage.  Dean is moving away from Quinton now, and Quinton is getting the best of Dean now, the crowd is on its feet with only 30 seconds left.  Both fighters are exhausted now, Dean being more so.  With less than 10 seconds left in the round Quinton lands a solid right cross and drops Dean, Dean quickly grabs his leg and the fight is over.

What a fight!  This is exactly what everyone wanted to see, it is very close.  Quinton Jackson wins!

Quinton Jackson def. Keith Jardine via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

Could this be the fight of the night?  I sure hope so… here we go!

Rd. 1

Shane starts out on the prowl to take Gonzaga’s head off.  Gonzaga counters with a nice right that leaves a red mark on his face.  Gonzaga gets him to the ground and almost gets full guard.  OMG!  Shane Carwin lands a right on the chin and his knees buckle.  Gonzaga is out!  He finishes it up with 2 more punches before the ref steps in.  Wow!

Pete Sell vs. Matt Brown

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

webmaster

Rd. 1

Matt starts off with some vicious high leg kicks to Pete’s dome and he is hurt.  A right hook knocks him out and he wakes up when he lands. He was out and the ref was about to stop it but there was some miscommunication.  Matt goes in like a bull and continues to dominate like a mo fo.  He didn’t even look like he was trying.  He was pretty much knocked him out at least 3 times.  At the end of the fight Matt drops Pete and lands a few more solid blows with careless effort before the ref calls the fight.  At the end of the fight Matt throws up his hands like WTF and Pete falls over, while on the ground, Pete is smiling while getting hit in the face.  After 3 solid blows, the ref calls it.

Rd. 1

Mark starts the fight with te first take down attempt but Matt stuffs it and d sprawls out.    Matt is wanting to fight and is on the prowl to take Mark out.  Mark is backing away, Matt lands a few solid shots and the crowd gets into it.  Mark tries for another take down and Matt sprawls.  As soon as you think the fight is starting to get boring Matt Hamill lands a HUEG high leg kick to the side of Marks dome and he is out COLD!

Matt Hamill def. Mark Munoz via knockout (head kick) - Round 1, 3:53.

(Munoz remains on the canvas long after the knockout. Munoz is fitted with a neck brace)

Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

webmaster

Rd. 1

First minute of action starts off with both fighters getting a feel for each other.  In the clinch, neither does anything.  Gray lands the first solid shot with a belly shot and a left hook.  Jim feels it.  Another combo by gray.  He has really improved his hands.  Jim lands a  hard left kick to Grays mid section.  Jim goes for the one leg take down but Gray is shutting him out and getting some great shots while he is hooping around,.  Great show of athleticism!  Nice knee by Gray while Jim goes for another takedown,.  Gray has some serious balance! People here want him to sweet the leg, kind of like in Karate Kid… Sweep the Leg Johnny.    Jims nose is starting to bleed from the under hook shots that Gray landed when Jim was going for the take down.  Jim is breathing already.  He used a lot of energy to try and take him down.   Nice right hook by Gray, opens up some more blood.  A vicious right hook sends blood across the octagon and the round is over.

Rd. 2

At the start of the round, Jim is looking pretty beat up already.  That right hook is really working wonders for Gray.  Jim cant seem to stop it.  Jim is breathing through his mouth as his nose is filled with blood.  This really takes a lot out of your game.  Cup check for Gray from Jim.   A straight right brings more blood spewing from Jim’s nose.  Now he is cut under his right eye.   Nice left high kick lands on Gray from Jim.  Gray is doing a great job of working the body and then getting a few more shots in while he can.  Jim is still pushing forward even though his face is starting to look like a hamburger.  Jim goes in for the take down and gets one leg and pulls Gray down but gets right back up.  Straight right from Gray brings more blood from Jims face.  His whole right side of his face  is nasty from those right hooks and straight rights.  I have no idea why the crowd is booking; we are getting a great fight.  Another right hurts Jim but Jim still moves forward.  Wow, Gray is looking amazing!

Rd. 3

Jim’s corner man really cleaned him up well and stopped a lot of the bleeding.  The right cross and hook are still working for Gray.  Now, Gray is switching it up and bringing the left.   Straight right brings Jim back a bit.  Nice left leg kick to the mid section by Jim.  Jim goes for the super man punch and pisses badly.  Jim goes for the take down and Gray stuffs it again!  Gray now goes for the take down and the body slam.  Jim has a hold of Gray’s knee but doesn’t have the energy left to get the knee bar.  Jim goes for the take down again and Gray stuffs it and tries to get Jim in a pile driver hold.   Finally, Gray gets into almost full guard and is getting some nice straight shots.  Not a whole lot that Jim can do but cover up and try not to get knocked out.  He is really trying for some submissions but doesn’t have the energy.   Gray wins all 3 rounds.

Gray Maynard def. Jim Miller via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Tamdan McCrory vs. Ryan Madigan

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

webmaster

Here we go….

Rd. 1

Tamdan is having a great role in his first few UFC fights.  He is trained under Bodybuilding.com writer Kevin Seamen.

Tamdan starts off the exchanges but switches and goes for the take down and gets it.  He gets full guard.  He is sporting some new wing tattoos on his back.  Ryan doing a great job of making sure that Tamdan cannot inflict any real damage.  Finally Tamdan gets through with a straight right followed by a left from full guard.  He moves to side guard and lands a few good elbows.  He leaves his leg open and Ryan has control on it but losses it.  Back to half guard but moves to full guard.  He is getting his rhythm and starts to get through with elbows and straight shots.  He cuts Ryan’s right eye open and starts getting some nasty hits and the ref is forced to call it.  The crowd is defiantly not into this fight but IMO it was a good one.  The cut over Ryan’s eye is nasty (as Joe Rogan would put it, it looks like a ‘goats vagina’).  After the fight in the interview Tamdan is dropping f bombs like it is going out of style.

Tamdan McCrory def. Ryan Madigan via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 3:35.

Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day

webmaster

Rd. 1

The Spider is back and is showing all that Team Punishment is here to stay in the UFC.  Fight starts a little slow with both fighters trading a few.  Kendel lands a nice leg kick to Jason’ ribs.   Kendell fakes with a left and throws a right cross and knocks Jason into next week and he is out cold. Kendell goes in for the kill and lands a few but the ref is there to call it.

Kendall Grove def. Jason Day via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 1:32.

Tim Boetsch vs. Jason Brilz

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

webmaster

Coming up…

Rd.1

Tim starts off the fight with a right followed by a knee that stuns Jason briefly.   Jason covers and moves back.  Tim responds with an uppercut that looked to break his nose….   A right kick by Tim, but Jason follows with a double hook takedown and gets guard.  Tim gets to his feet though.  Fighters in clinch.  A right, followed by an upper cut and another right by Tim hurts Jason.   The upper cuts is really working for Tim.    Great first round for Tim.

Rd. 2

Jason tries to show he has a ground game and goes for the take down with success.  Jason has half guard.  Jason not doing much from half guard, he needs to move to full.  The fighters are now in a 69 type position; Tim eats a nasty elbow and few good knees to his ribs.  Very No Homo.  Tim looks exhausted; Jason goes fro the reverse choke but can’t do anything with it.  They go back to half guard.    Tim gets to his feet but is taking some nasty knees to the side of his knee from Jason.  Fighters in clinch.  Jason is really doing a good job of leaning o his opponent and hurting him.  Ref brings the fighters back to the middle of the ring 10 seconds before the end of round 2.  Great round for Jason!

Rd. 3

Jason starts the next round again but getting into clinch.  Jason is putting his weight on him again.  He goes for the take down but is unsuccessful.   Jason goes for the 2 hand hook take down and is stuffed again.  Tim looks to go for a right hook but jumps in with a knee and Jason leans right into it.    Jason gets Tim to the ground and gets his back.  Jason has Tim’s back and goes for the rear naked choke but Tim defends.  Jason gets half guard.   Tim gets back to his feet.  Jason again goes for the take down and gets it this time.    From half guard Jason gets a few hammer punches and uppercuts from the ground followed by a knee.  Tim looks tired.  Jason is leaning on him using his body to cover his breathing and not letting him recover.   Tim’ right eye is now cut open and blood is starting to pour out, Tim tries to control Jason’ body but its unsuccessful.  Tim does a good job of not letting Jason get too much damage but the last 2 rounds defiantly go to Jason.

Jason Brilz def. Tim Boetsch via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

Brandon Vera vs. Michael Patt

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

webmaster

This is going to be an exciting fight.  Brandon really has to show he still has it as he hasn’t had any really impressive fights since he fought Frank Mir, IMO.   His last fight was a loss to Keith ‘The Dean Of Mean’ Jardine.

Here we go….

Rd. 1

Brandon starts off the fight looking like the old Brandon vera.  Leg kick, solid right, leg kick.  He has a  fire in his eyes that we haven’t seen in a while.  Solid striking by Brandon, nothing yet from Mike.  Mike defiantly has a chin on him, taking a hard right.  Brandon is really setting up his combos.  Punch, then leg kick.    The leg kicks from Brandon echo throughout the arena.  I remember when I was a young Goat in the hills of the Himalayans I used to box with my brother and it was just like this first round.  I would try and hit him, but my Goat hands were just not fast enough.  Brandon is truly showing why he was once a top contender.

Rd. 2

Mike is coming out and trying to show what Ohio is made out of.  I hope he tries harder….

The leg kicks are starting to get to Mike, he looks like he has a torn ACL… he drops to the ground but Brandon doesn’t go for the kill.  He throws his hands up to say c’mon.  Waits for him to get back to his feet and starts to throw the right lower leg kicks again and drops Mike like a rock sinking after you throw it into a lake.  Mike is badly hurt and the ref calls the fight.  The Truth is back!  What is next for him, we will see.  I would llke to see him fight Mir again along with Jardine!

Brandon Vera def. Michael Patt via TKO (leg kicks) - Round, 1:27.

Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson

Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson

Rd. 1

In the first fight of the night we have a fellow Hawaii out of BJ Penn’s hometown.  Both fighters are notorious for being able to take a beat down and it looks to be an exciting fight.

Aaron starts the fight off with an leg kick but gest caught with a knee when he is going for the second kick.    Shane responds with leg kicks and follows with a right and Aaron appears to be hurt a little…  Shane jumps on top to try and take advantage of the situation and the ref is forced to call the fight.  IMO, it was an early stoppage.  The crowd feels the same way and reacts with booing and screaming about how the ref sucks.

Shane Nelson def. Aaron Riley via TKO (strikes) - Round 1, 0:44.

UFC 96 Dana White Vlog 3

Friday, March 6th, 2009

UFC President Dana White on Jardine

Friday, March 6th, 2009

nvhighroller21

courtesy of MMAWeekly.com

Following the pre-fight press conference for this weekend’s UFC 95 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, UFC President Dana White answered questions for members of the media.

In recent days, White has voiced his disapproval on main eventer Keith Jardine’s stance that friend, training partner, and light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans was off limits if he won on Saturday.

From the sound of it, though, White believed Jardine had a good chance of putting him in an awkward position.

"Jardine is a tough, durable guy," he said. "He’s very unorthodox, and his style is pretty much the style that Forrest beat Rampage with. He’s very good a kicks to the legs and kicks to the body.

"Chuck Liddell is one of my friends. For twelve or thirteen years I’ve been to fights with him all over the world. I’ve never seen his body look like it looked after the Keith Jardine fight. I don’t think you guys saw it because he was back int he locker room. His whole body from under his arm pit to below the legs, he was covered in bruises. Jardine can kick and Rampage is susceptible to the leg kick and body kick."

In an earlier conference call for the fight, Jackson bristled at those who thought the same fate would befall him.

"I’m really glad that people think that I have a low kick defense, because I used to be a kick boxer so that’s how I trained in boxing," he said. "And I didn’t work on my kickboxing anymore. So now we’re just working on everything. I’m kind of happy if you think I have a low kick defense problem."

White said Jardine’s style made him impossible to count out. Going back to their first meeting at the second season of "The Ultimate Fighter," he expected big things out of the Albuquerque resident. And interestingly enough, it wasn’t Jardine’s kicks that drew attention.

"I knew coming into the fight that he was a tough guy," said White. "I had heard a lot of buzz about him before he even came in. What I had heard a lot about was his wrestling, his ground game. Obviously he’s been working on his stand up. He’s really an unorthodox fighter - the way he punches and kicks, the way he moves - He’s a tough guy to fight. That’s why I think for bookies to make him a 3 to 1 dog, he’s a live dog. That’s a good bet.

On Saturday, fans will see how many bruises Jackson walks away with, and, if White has a future as a bookie.
