Frank Mir After Thoughts, UFC 100!

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Donlon

Hope all is well with everyone. I have taken a week or so off after the fight vs. Brock Lesnar in UFC 100. Even though I thought I would experience a victory it wasn’t my night. Brock had an excellent game plan and came out with the win. I will start training on Monday to get ready for my next fight which should be late Fall.

There were positives from the UFC 100 experience. It showcased the UFC and myself to millions more people and due to the antics of Brock, brought in more people as well. On top of that, Dan Henderson’s KO of Bisping made world wide sports shows as a play of the day or highlight reels.

One thing you don’t want is to be on the other side of Hendo’s overhand right. Dan is a great guy, as is Bisping, but man did he connect. GSP showed his outstanding ability as well. All in all it was a great night for the UFC.

Regarding my night, well, I have things to work on as does any martial artist. There is a saying in BJJ circles that says you really start learning when you get your black belt. I have to go back to the drawing board with my coaches and starting writing up a new game plan for my next opponent and go over mistakes I made vs. Brock. MMA is so dynamic, always changing, always evolving and there is so much to train for and learn.

If you saw the pictures from the weigh-ins you hopefully saw that I was in good shape and ready to go 5 five rounds. I felt great. I weighed in at 245lbs which is about 20lbs or so lighter than usual. This was in no small part helped by Nutrabolics. My friends Jayson and Rodney helped me get on a program utilizing Nutrabolics products and with their help and the team at Nutrabolics I was able to get into the best shape of my life. We are not going to let up there. We are going to put together a new routine into what we are already doing to build upon our results thus far.

Regarding my performance - Let’s just say I can’t wait til the next time I get a shot at Brock. We are one and one. I am not a trash talker so I will save my comments for later. He deserved the win. I got caught in a position that put me at risk. The excitement and unpredictability of the sport shows that on any given night one can win. This time it wasn’t me. Next time it will be.

I will be in touch every few weeks. As an fyi, during the week I train and sleep and spend time with my family. Oh ya - we are filming a reality show right now. There are so many cameras on us all the time. We are doing it with an excellent production company so I am really excited to see how it turns out. I will be in touch.

For Martial Arts,

Frank Mir

UFC 100 fall out

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

nvhighroller21

UFC 100 Fallout

The milestone that was UFC 100 has come and gone and not without a little controversy.

The fight capital of the world, Las Vegas, NV was a buzz with tens of thousands fight fans from all over the world.  A sold out Mandalay Bay Arena hosted the sold out event, this ticket was hotter than the dry desert weather!

Revenge is a dish best served cold and Brock Lesnar was dishing out platefuls all night to Frank Mir.

Frank Mir was unable to control the baby gorilla that is Brock Lesnar and wasn’t able to get any offense going during their main event championship fight Saturday night.  Lesnar used his superior strength and size advantage to keep Mir on his back for two rounds.

Lesnar controlled the arms of Mir and punished his face with huge right after huge right.  Mir was a bloody mess and Lesnar got his revenge, but the action didn’t stop there.

Lesnar seemed to forget that he was no longer in the WWE and disrespected Mir, the fans, and Bud Lite, who sponsored UFC 100.

After spitting out his mouthpiece and ramming his face into the cage, he continued his war of words with a beaten Frank Mir.

Before leaving the cage, Lesnar had this to say,” Frank Mir had a horseshoe up his ass. I told him that a year ago. I pulled it out of him and beat him over the head with it. [Now] I’m going to drink a Coors Light. That’s right a Coors. Bud Light don’t pay me nothing even get on top of my wife tonight.”

Classy guy?!?!

Lesnar would later go onto apologize and even drank an ice cold Bud Lite during the post fight presser.  Seems like the only man that intimidates him is UFC President Dana White.

So who’s next for the champ?

Both Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez are big, strong wrestlers and will fight each other soon, but I only see Carwin with the legitimate shot at dethroning the champ.  He has knockout power and Lesnar’s chin is untested.

Then again I do know of one man from Russia who could slay this monster.

Fedor!

After these antics, Dana White seems more interested in signing the former PRIDEFC champ.  Here’s what he had to say after the fight,

“This whole Fedor thing has been going on and on and on. I keep saying this and that about him and he keeps waiting. Eventually, Fedor’s going to be here. I want Fedor. I want him to come to the UFC and everything else. [Lesnar] just became the heavyweight champion. We’ll end up getting that deal done. And then we’ll do Brock vs. Fedor, and it’ll be a huge fight.”

Let’s pray this happens but I have my doubts.

Georges St. Pierre held onto his welterweight strap after outclassing Thiago Alves.

GSP used his superior wrestling skills to keep Alves on his back for five rounds en route to the unanimous decisions.

The champ continues to dominate everyone in the welterweight division and who would be next?

The winner of the Mike Swick/Martin Kampmann fight at UFC 103 is rumored to be next in line.

But who wouldn’t want to see a super fight between GSP and Anderson Silva?

With chants of USA echoing throughout the Mandalay Bay Arena, Dan Henderson shut up the loud mouth Brit Michael Bisping with a huge right hand.

After realizing Bisping doesn’t pack a punch, Henderson relentlessly stalked him for the first round looking for the knock out punch.

The punch didn’t come till the second round but it was quite a doozy.  As Bisping circled to his left he met square on with huge Henderson right that put him asleep on his feet.  Hendo followed it up with an equally powerful forearm for good measure.

I believe I [shut him up] for a little while, I don’t know if he’ll ever shut his mouth completely, though. Normally, I’m not that way in fights. I know if a guy is out. I tend to stop. I knew I hit him out. I think that last one was just to shut him up a little bit.”

First right hand = good night, the second = sleep tight!

Hendo should be considered the number one contender for Anderson Silva after three straight victories.  He has also stated he would take a fight in the light heavyweight division.

Japanese super star Yoshihiro Akiyama made a successful UFC debut with a controversial split-decision victory over Alan Belcher.

Both fighters seemed to gas after the first round and the fight was real sloppy but did earn fight of the night honors; earning both fighters a cool $100,000.

Top Middleweight contender Jon Fitch secured yet another victory over unbeaten Paulo Thiago.

Fitch outwrestled and fended off the submissions from Thiago and exacted a little revenge for teammate Josh Koscheck.

UFC 100 was entertaining and I can’t wait for what the future holds for MMA!

UFC 100 main card Preview

Friday, July 10th, 2009

nvhighroller21

Las Vegas, Nevada – The Ultimate Fighting Championship continues to make fighting history with yet another huge night of stellar fights.  The monumental 100th show boasts some of the biggest names in UFC history.

A heavyweight title fight between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir will headline this monster card Saturday night.  Champion versus champion, these two monsters look to settle the bad blood that continues to boil between the two.

The behemoth known as Brock Lesnar is fresh off his victory over Randy Couture back in November where he captured the UFC heavyweight strap.  Revenge is undoubtedly on his mind as Frank Mir spoiled his UFC debut.

Frank Mir, who is never at a loss for words, continues to take jabs at the former WWE star only adding more fuel to the fire.

Mir is a talented BJJ fighter with improving standup.  He showcased how well his striking has improved with his latest victory over Noguiera.  He stood up with Pride legend and knocked him down time after time and finished him for the first time in the second round.

Lesnar as we all know is a stud wrestler and continues to improve in all facets of MMA.  The power he possesses is godlike and he uses his lunch box hands to cause brain damage.

Mir has said he’s willing to stand and trade with Lesnar and that might be a huge mistake, it only takes on of those powerful punches from Lesnar to turn yo lights out!

Mir needs to utilize his superior ground game and hopes he catches Lesnar with yet another submission.  Can Mir put his whole game together Saturday night or will Lesnar continue his reign of dominance?

Georges St. Pierre has been a man possessed since his third fight with Matt Hughes.  Since recapturing the UFC welterweight title GSP has look unbeatable.  He’ll face his biggest test to date in form of the Brazilian Thiago Alves.

Alves is a big strong welterweight with a tight muay thai game.  His leg kicks are punishing and has strong clinch game with dangerous knees.  He dismantled UFC legend Matt Hughes knocking him out with a flying knee and dominated Josh Koscheck not long ago.

Alves’ leg kicks are his bread and butter, but will he be exploited by the superior wrestling of the champion?

GSP has proven to be the best wrestler in the welterweight division and this may pay dividends with the kick happy Alves.  If GSP can take Alves down and ground and pound him, it could be an early night for the challenger.

This might all be too premature if Alves can’t make weight.  He’s a huge welterweight and has had his troubles in the past cutting weight.  His cardio might be affected due to this as well.  The longer the fight lasts, the better the odds for the champion.

Alves has the knockout power but GSP is just too damn good and polished for him to take his title away.

With a potential middleweight title shot in the future, Dan Henderson will face Michael Bisping.  Team UK dominated Team USA during this latest season of TUF, but how will the coaches fare?

Bisping is quick and uses his agility to stay out of harms way.  He may not have knockout power in his hands, but his hands are quick and over time will take their toll.

Henderson will look to out wrestle Bisping and keep him on his back.  Henderson is known for his huge right hand, but that’s all he’s got standing up.

Henderson has shown weakness to submissions over the years and Bisping might want to look for submissions throughout the fight.

Bisping is the underdog, but I like his footwork and he might pepper himself to a title shot.

Yoshihiro Akiyama, a Japanese Judoka makes his much anticipated UFC debut against Alan Belcher.  Belcher has been known to spoil debuts of stars coming from over seas.

Jon Fitch seeks revenge for Josh Koscheck as he faces submission specialist Paulo Thiago.

UFC 100 – Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas

MAIN CARD
• Champ Brock Lesnar vs. interim champ Frank Mir (heavyweight title unification)
• Champ Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves (for welterweight title)
• Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago
• Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson
• Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher
PRELIMINARY CARD
• Stephan Bonnar vs. Mark Coleman
• Mac Danzig vs. Jim Miller
• Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien
• C.B. Dollaway vs. Tom Lawlor
• Matt Grice vs. Shannon Gugerty
• T.J. Grant vs. Dong Hyun Kim

UFC 100 mini preview

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

nvhighroller21

It all started November 12, 1993 in Denver, Colorado where Royce Gracie put on a Brazilian jiu-jitsu clinic capturing the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship title.

I personally stumbled upon the UFC back in 1997.  I remember it like it was yesterday, I was channel surfing in my sister’s room and a channel that was usually scrambled was coming in crystal clear.

Growing up an avid WWE fan, I quickly recognized Tony Halme or ‘Ludvig Borga’ as he’s known in the WWE community, but he wasn’t in the squared circle, but some sort of cage.  Halme, a behemoth of a man, was facing little known Randy Couture in their respected UFC debuts.

Figuring that Halme was much larger than Couture, a boxing champion and he had to be a much superior wrestler since he’d faced the likes of the Undertaker and Lex Luger while in the WWE; he would have no problem disposing of Couture.  To my surprise he was quickly taken down and choked out by the future hall of famer and was never seen in the octagon again.

True story!

The UFC has had its ups and downs like any business, but this Saturday night is truly a special milestone as they hit the century mark with UFC 100.

The fight capitol of the world, Las Vegas, NV will be electrified with a stellar night of fights that features two title fights.

A rematch between UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Interim champion Frank Mir will be the main event.

The co-main event will feature the UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre as he defends against Thiago Alves.

The coaches from this latest season of The Ultimate Fighter will finally come to blows as Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson look to inch closer to a middleweight title shot.

I’ll have an in depth preview of all the main card fights later today.  So check back!

UFC 100 OMG it’s gonna be War!

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Donlon

Ok so UFC 100 is just around the corner, and it is one stacked card.

The UFC has really turned it up a notch the last four fights with awesome fights almost throughout every card and it looks to be a new trend continuing through UFC 101 and 102.

As for UFC 100 here’s what my thoughts are.

Brock Lesnar Vs. Frank Mir
Last time these two met Mir caught Lesnar in a Leg Lock, but that was no easy accomplishment as Brock was doing some incredible damage before giving his leg up.

Since then Brock has gone on to beat Heath Herring and The Man Himself Randy Couture.

Mir on the other hand has tuned his game almost to perfection, coming out and running through the always dangerous Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Mir’s boxing game looked top notch this last fight, still I have to say it might not (is not) a good idea to stand with a man the size of Lesnar.

Both men are very big guys and good fighters, Mir definitely has the experience and skill to beat Brock and Brock has some of the most amazing speed and athleticism for a man of his size.

I am pulling for MIr to come out on top this fight.

Georges St-Pierre Vs. Thiago Alves
This is the gonna get fight of the night! In this fight you have to of the best fighters around going head to head.

GSP is the most talented athlete in the world, not just a good fighter but all around athletic. He has changed his game incredibly over the last few years. Since his "fluke" loss to Matt Serra he has run through Koscheck, Hughes, Serra, Fitch and Penn. He dominates the welterweight division and if he comes away with another win against Thiago there isn’t gonna be anyone who can stop him for awhile.

Thiago, at a huge 170 lbs is the biggest welterweight in the UFC. His last loss was in 2006 against Jon Fitch, since then he has dominated his way through alsmot the whole division including a TKO against Chris Lytle a KO against Karo Parisyan and Matt Hughes and then put a hurt on Josh Koscheck with a Unanimous Decision.

These are easily two of the most liked guys around, since GSP was a coach on TUF everyone has come to like the guy and he is a definite "Lady Killer". I had the privilege to meet Thiago about two months ago and got to hang out with him and the awesome guys from Champion Nutrition Mark Post and Michael Crawford. Thiago is a very down to earth guy and very cool.

This is a hard fight to call as for both of these guys are awesome fighters as well as just great guys. This will be an amazing war and a fight I doubt will ever be forgotten.

Dan Henderson Vs. Michael Bisping
After finishing up coaching this last season of TUF these two are finally gonna get to battle it out. This should turn out to be another memorable fight. Henderson at 38 is still a world class fighter and I don’t think age has caught up with him yet.
If you didn’t follow this last season of TUF let me tell you Hendo has said he will be glad to shut Bisping mouth.

Gonna be a good fight but I am pulling for Hendo in this one.

Another fight I am excited about is the  Mark Coleman Vs. Stephan Bonnar match.
I can’t wait to see this one based on the fact that I am hoping it will turn out similar to the Don Frye Vs. Yoshihiro Takayama slugfest.

The rest of the card looks to have some great talent on it as well here is who else will be fighting at UFC 100.

Jon Fitch Vs. Paulo Thiago

Yoshihiro Akiyama Vs. Alan Belcher

Mac Danzig Vs. Jim Miller

Jon Jones Vs. Jake O’Brien

Dong Hyun Kim Vs. Jonathan Goulet

CB Dollaway Vs. Tom Lawlor

Matt Grice Vs. Shannon Gugerty

Frank Mir Interview!

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Donlon

By: Jordan Blyth

1zBxd1jyyNk2dTw0REWTHPeyp1CqK1317.jpeg

A martial artist should not be defined by their accomplishments alone; rather they should be defined by their entire journey to those accomplishments. With a journey that could be written as a script for Hollywood, Frank Mir is a true martial artist. He has experienced the highest highs and the lowest lows, but it is this path that has made him who he is.

The journey is far from over for Frank. He uses what he as learned as a martial artist through experience to build on his career. As he progressively matures, he continues to give back to the sport. This second time UFC interim heavyweight champion, at the age of 29, has many opportunities left to test his limits.

Article Summary:
- Frank Mir is currently signed with Nutrabolics Supplement Company.
- In September 2004, Frank suffered a devastating car accident.
- He is set to take on Brock Lesnar at UFC 100 on July 7, 2009.

What do MMA Fans Want from UFC 100 fan expo?

In just under a month the UFC will be holding it’s first ever Fan Expo.

There is going to be a lot going on over the two day event just before UFC 100 and lots of coverage to get.

So here is what I am looking for!

What would fans want to hear about with the live coverage from the Expo?

Obviously there will be lots of Fighter and Trainer interviews but with almost two full days what else would keep fans interested in the Live Broadcast and have others listening to the replays?

Lets hear what the fans want.

Bodybuilding.com and ProMMARadio.com are going to be set up at the expo and need your input on what coverage we should get.

- Fighter interviews
- Trainer interviews
- Interviews with the fans about the event
- Interviews with Ring Girls and maybe fighters girlfriends.
- Interviews with some of the other companies with booths and such.
= supplement companies, clothing companies etc…

Please help.

LIMP BIZKIT TO PERFORM AS PART OF UFC® 100 EVENT WEEKEND
UFC, Press Release

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – The most historic event in UFC just got bigger with the announcement that rap-metal pioneers Limp Bizkit are bringing their "Unicorns N’ Rainbows" tour to Mandalay Bay Beach on Friday, July 10th to perform in their first North American concert in eight years as a part of the UFC 100 weekend. The multi-platinum-selling group has picked the perfect time to return to North American stages, and you can be sure that once their hits “Break Stuff”, “Rollin’” and “My Way” start blasting through the speakers, you’ll have all the adrenaline you need for UFC 100 the next night on Saturday, July 11th.

“Music is one of the things that make the UFC experience so exciting, and I’ve always been a big fan of Limp Bizkit, so we are excited to have the group perform at UFC 100 event weekend,” said Dana White, UFC President.

"We are proud that our first show in the USA with the original line-up in eight years will be in Las Vegas at UFC 100. The ultimate fighting music has finally found its home with the Ultimate Fighting Championship,” said Fred Durst.

Tickets for Limp Bizkit, not including applicable service charges, go on sale Friday, May 29 at 10 a.m. at all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (select Smith’s Food and Drug Centers and Ritmo Latino). To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mandalaybay.com, or www.ticketmaster.com.

Doors will open at 7pm, BoneyB will perform at 8 p.m. and Limp Bizkit will go live at 9 p.m. The concert also will be streamed live on UFC.com.

As part of UFC Fan Expo, Limp Bizkit will appear and sign autographs on the main stage Friday July 10th from 2pm – 3pm, just hours before their U.S. concert premiere. Fred Durst, Wes Borland, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and DJ Lethal are gearing up to record their first new studio album with the original line-up since 2000’s Worldwide 12x-platinum Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. Flip/Interscope Records will announce more details and a release date in the coming months. The band’s first three albums have sold more than 20 million copies in the U.S. alone, and another 13 million in the rest of the world.
