Bodybuilding.com logo on the Champ Anderson Silva

Monday, October 27th, 2008

liftstudios

Did you watch the UFC fight on Saturday night? If you did then you saw Anderson Silva sporting a t-shirt with the bodybuilding.com logo on it. Anderson is sponsored by Nutrabolics, which is available here on bodybuilding.com. The logo was very prominent in the middle of his shirt which he wore before entering the octagon. After Anderson won the fight he put the shirt back on for his interview with Joe Rogan. If you missed it, WHERE WERE YOU? Those who may not have caught it check out the clip below.

Dana White says “It’s a good day”

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Elite XC is dead and Dana is happy about it. Props to Dana White for always speaking his mind. He’s said all along that a number of the "wannabe" UFC organizations are hurting the entire sport of MMA. Gotta agree with him. His latest video blog blasts Farrell and hits on this weekend’s UFC fight in Chicago.

UFC 89

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

nvhighroller21

UFC 89 will be on SPIKE TV tonight at 9PM.

The Main Event will feature England’s own Michael "The Count" Bisping as he will attempt to continue his ascent up the middleweight ladder, but his climb up will be no easy task as he will face Chris "The Crippler" Leben.

Both fighters are riding two fight win streaks going into this fight.

Chris has proven time after time how tough a fighter he is.  Too go along with his brawling stlye and iron chin, he possesses a punishing left hand that has knocked out many.

Bisping is more of a technical fighter, with great hand speed.  Since his move down to middleweight, he’s been able to overpower his last two opponents.

Will he be able to overpower Chris Leben?  Or will Lebenspoil Bisping’s homecoming with a vicious knockout?

A win for either fight will inch them closer to either a title fight or most likely a fight with the winner of the Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson fight.

UFC Trading card in 2009

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

MMAweekly.com reports that Topps and UFC will produce trading cards.

The Topps Company and the Ultimate Fighting Championship have announced an agreement that will give Topps exclusive rights to produce UFC brand trading cards featuring current, future and former UFC athletes. The deal lasts through May 2011 for UFC trading cards and stickers.

The new collector brand will allow fans to experience the history and excitement of UFC and will include all of the biggest mixed martial arts moments from the start of the brand at UFC 1 to the upcoming Nov. 15 mega-fight UFC 91, featuring returning Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar (predicted to be the organization’s biggest event ever), and all the action-packed fights to come.

“MMA continues to become one of the most popular sports in the country and Topps is looking forward to joining forces with UFC’s rising stars and illustrious history,” said Warren Friss Topps’ GM of Sports & Entertainment. “We are extremely excited to work with UFC and give our collectors access that has never before been available in our industry.”

As part of the deal, UFC will provide Topps with unique elements of their organization including images and memorabilia such as match-used gloves and pieces of the UFC Octagon. These will give the loyal fan a literal piece of the UFC or that special event. These cards are highly collectible and sought after and usually sequentially numbered to a limited quantity. Some of the UFC brand cards available to collectors will feature: Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes, Brock Lesnar, Royce Gracie, Forrest Griffin, Quinton Jackson and many others.

"We are excited to be working with Topps to showcase our incredible athletes on UFC trading cards," said Dana White, UFC President. "We look forward to having great success with Topps, and to giving UFC fans a product they can collect and trade with other fans of our sport.”

The UFC trading cards will launch in early 2009.

UFC to return to the Arnold Classic?

Monday, October 13th, 2008

liftstudios

MMAmania.com is reporting it could happen. This is always a fun event. I photographed the first event to go into Columbus and it was great to see the return of Randy.

It appears to be a growing traditional right of passage — when the Arnold EXPO sets up shop in Columbus, Ohio, for its annual convention — the largest health and fitness expo in the nation — the Ultimate Fighting Championship follows suit.

So has been the case for the last two years and it appears that 2009 will be no different.

Executive Director of the Ohio Athletic Commission, Bernie Profato, revealed in a Cleveland Plain Dealer article that the promotion “has tentative plans to return to Nationwide Arena in Columbus on March 7, 2009.”

The Arnold EXPO, which hosts 650 booths and more than 150,000 fitness fans, is scheduled to run from March 6-9.

If the event takes place — and it more than likely will — it will be the fourth major UFC event to be held in the “Buckeye State” since the promotion invaded Ohio for the first time ever in March 2007.

UFC 91 Poster

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Just over a month to go until one of the biggest UFC fights in history. Couture vs. Lesnar. It will be an interesting fight to watch. Unfortunately, I will be in Cancun for my best friend’s wedding and will miss the fight. I had a chance to photograph Lesnar and he is a cool guy. Super nice, humble and friendly. Turns out he is originally from South Dakota, which is where I am from as well. Small world gets smaller.
