Paralyzed by Analysis
"Paralyzed by Analysis" its happened and its happening to me right now. That saying comes from the Body for Life book I have sitting on my dresser, which also sits near the latest Muscle and Fitness, which lays on top of the Zone Diet book. WHich all sits within arm reaches of a person ( that person is me) surfing on Bodybuilding.com reading about nutrition, workouts plans…etc…
Its happened, I have read so much over the years…have read so much in the past few months, weeks, days…that I am officially "Paralyzed by Analysis" I’m trying to figure out why my body isnt responding to all the work, and nutrition I throw at it. And based on my current caluclations there about 1 bazillion ways to fix it…if I could just find the fix..but since I am "Paralyzed by Analysis" I’m overlooking something probably very simple.
This many weeks into the contest, I weighed in this morning I’ve lost…….hmmm lets see here.. 3.5Lbs…Oh sure I’ve added almost .5inch to my arms, .5 inch to my chest and lost 2.5 inches around my mid section but even so I dont get the weight loss, sure I know it isnt everything but with great fat loss comes great weight loss…and apparently I’ve got neither.
I’m currently in the state of "Paralyzed by Analysis" because I dont know where to go, I’m eating clean, and usually in the gym for 1-1.5 hours for 4-5 days a week sometimes more. Pushing myself to the limits each time, sprinting till my knees beg for mercy, riding a bike so fast although stationary it might actually start moving.
I’m wondering if I need to take a visit to the Dr? Maybe my body is insuling resistant, maybe like my grandfather did I’m becoming a diabetic early in life…geez who knows.
But I must say…………someone help!

How many calories are you taking in per day? How many carbs? Why don’y you start logging your daily diet on your bodyspace so we can check up on you and maybe throw in some advice here or there?
I reduced from approx 5000 per day to approximately 1500 to get the results I am getting. This is about 2/3 less. I think it would be a fine idea for you to get checked for insulin resistance and hypo-thyroidism.

Looks to me like you are overdoing it if you are working out that much. More than an hour if intense workout is more than enough in the gym, and if you overdo the cardio you will only burn the muscle not fat. I was in that situation, and I know the way it goes. You need to relax man, no amount of rushing will bring you to where you want to be. I agree with Maddi, why don’t you start logging everything this week here and we can all analyze your problem together and help you out

Thanks for the support guys. I’ll post each days meals for 1 week in my personal bodyspace. I want to break out of this, its a sure show stopper mentally when you dont see much change for all the effort outgoing.

"Paralyzed by Analysis" I’m not familiar with the term, but I’ve been there before. Jason, I’ve been there. I used to read, month after month every muscle building publication out there; Iron Man, Flex, Muscle & Fitness, MucleMag International… You name it, I subscribed to it. I think I also own all of the books you mentioned in your blog.
I guess I too was "Paralyzed by Analysis" I would change my routine from week to week and diet from day to day. So one day I sat down and built a routine incorporating everything I thought might work in terms dieting, lifting weight and performing cardio. I stuck to it for 16 weeks. I think the main thing was carefully evaluating where I was getting my advice from and then sticking to it. “Consistency is the key,” people often quip, and they’re right.
Hit me up if you want to throw some ideas around.

Savage, that sounds like me for sure. I might be eating on the zone one day and two days later eating the body for life way, and then two days later no carbs at all.
I think my lack of sticking to a specific program has also caused me to get confused, and overlook simple things. I’ve changed things up probably 3 times over the past few weeks.
