I Want To Show You What’s On The Inside.

Maddi

"The obese are not incapable.  They just do not know what they are capable of."

Right now, this is my goal.  This is the word that I want to spread on Bodybuilding.com, and the whole world over if I may.  I want people TO SEE inside the mind of a fat person.  I want them to understand.

I KNOW DISCRIMINATION.  I have lived it firsthand.

Walking around in the body of an obese person is never easy.  For one, you are in near constant physical pain, except when sitting.  And past a certain point, that begins to hurt as well.

What is just as bad or perhaps worse about being obese is the way people treat you.  The way that people see you.  Or rather, the way that people DO NOT see you.

I remember being treated very, very badly.  And I remember thinking…"They do not know me.  They do not know me, and they do not see who I am on the inside."

It is true.  We judge firsthand based upon appearances.  We see someone fit and trim, perhaps beautifully muscley, and we think, "HEALTH".  This may not necessarily be the case.

I am not here to defend the fat so that they may become fatter.  I am just here to say that inside each obese individual there lies a strong and healthy individual who does not know how to get out.

Why don’t we take a look inside each fat person’s mind to see what took them there, and what might help to bring them back?

Let us take a look to see what’s on the inside.

good entry. It is hard for people to understand. you think people severely overweight like being that way? its hard to understand the way they feel when you have never been there, so you cant relate. Rather than judge appearances, give them a chance and get to know them on the inside, like you said. They could be the best person in the world, and you wouldnt know it if you looked at them and walked past because you judged the book by its cover. Sad but true today. thanks for the good entry. good luck to us all

I agree with you 100% but im sure there is a nicer way of saying it than fat person lol… I know a whole lot about fitness comps and so on jantanna and so on.. no one i know though would know this about me!!! however, ppl started to see my knowledge of fitness when i dated a body builder lol funny huh? But he was the one of the few that saw this of me because we were friend at work first…… Ppl judge way to quick these days and dont give no one a chance….

I’m fat/obese…and the reality is that people see me just as I am. What they don’t see is the skinny person that I long to be and that is my fault (and probably a little genicis) not theirs. I made bad choices and like everything else they came at a price. i.e. feeling like shit, body aches and pains, not being able to see my toes, discrimination and on and on. You have wonderful intentions and you truly are a beautiful person on the inside but lets not sugar coat (mmm sssuuugaar/LOL) the issue. With few exceptions, we (fat people collectivley)
made bad choices. No it’s not fair people discriminate, but whether it’s African Am./ Mexican or fat; people will be people and won’t change thier bigatry. I suggest your time be spent encouraging the "Fataz’s" in your life. Your experience and journey may be anothers inspiration. As for the bigots, well if you watch them long enough they will usually get fat at some point and get to live it first hand for themselves.

Great post and congrats on your skinnyness.

    John

It is easier for an older guy, or at least you need to get much fatter than a woman to begin feeling the abuse. How can we live in a society 50% of which is obese to morbidly obese and still cause those who are obese to suffer? I think it is a many fold issue, but one reason is that instinctively we know that being overweight is not healthy and we, as humans, avoid that which is not healthy. Then there is the fact that people are simply asses.

What I really don’t understand is why women are pushed to be so, so skinny. An unhealthy skinny. Why do naturally super skinny people suffer ridicule? Just people I guess.

Thank you Maddi for such a poignant message. Yes, those of us that are obese are often ridiculed without ever getting to know the real person inside. I have abttled all my life with it and it wasnt until I found the support of BB.com that I found the heart and drive to really fight but to the general public. I’m just anohter fat guy.
