Day 11, still going strong!

March 3, 2008

Starting day 11 of my new Fast 5 diet. I have lost 6 pounds in that time. haven’t struggled with this diet as I have with others before. Glad about that. Start working out in the gym again today. Not exactly sure what sort of program I am going for. Leaning to focus on burning the hell out of fat to begin with. Looking to lose 46 pounds of BF!  Any suggestions on the best ways to do that with weights?

Physique Training Tip

February 27, 2008

FitnessAtlantic.com

The late Vince Gironda, aka “The Iron Guru,” was one of bodybuilding’s most-influential personalities and one of the greatest physique trainers of all-time.

Larry Scott, the first Mr. Olympia, trained at Vince’s Gym. Mohamed Makkaway, one of the greatest IFBB pros of the ’80s, also trained with Vince.

So did countless other bodybuilding champions, movies stars, and enthusiasts who walked through the door of his gym, or purchased his courses through mail-order.

For 55 years Vince lived and breathed bodybuilding, establishing methods and principles that are still unsurpassed today.

When Vince had a student who wasn’t making gains, he would put them on a diet of raw vegetables for 5 to 7 days… no protein or supplements whatsoever.

Vince claimed that excess waste products in the intestines from high animal protein intake, junk food and bad eating habits “gummed up the works” and would prevent gains.

So his students would eat NOTHING but raw vegetables and leafy green salads with a little vinegar for 5 to 7 days.

He would also have them take psyllium seed powder with water to help clean out the colon.

Once everything was cleaned out on the inside, his students would start eating their regular Vince Gironda diet again and would make much better gains.

I can’t tell you from personal experience if this works or not… but I’m going to try it soon.

I would add just one very important recommendation because our food supply has changed a lot since the 50’s and 60’s…

Due to the prolific use of toxic agro-chemicals on our produce, I would highly recommend you use only certified ORGANIC vegetables during this “clean out” period.

In fact, I recommend you use organic vegetables at all times… if you’re able to get them.

Give this a try for 5 to 7 days and let me know how it goes for you.

All the best,
Doberman Dan

A small step… but a good one.

February 25, 2008

After starting the "Fast 5" diet last Thursday… Feb 21st… I got on the scale and lost 2 pounds. Can’t completely say it’s all because of the diet. But I’m sure it helped. I’ll know more after doing the diet exclusively for a week. Think I’m going to like it though. Took some new pics of me doing 3 exercises with the Kettlebells…1) KB Push Ups 2) Horizontal back Rows and 3) The Turkish Get Up. All some of my favorite KB exercises because they are TOUGH! They’ve been uploaded. Check em out.

Emotional eating is my nemisis

February 21, 2008

I just read an article about emotional eating. Defined in this article as: "eating for reasons other than satisfying physical hunger, providing energy, stoking your metabolism and feeding your muscles, and it may be keeping you overweight".  I am curious if any members here have successfully dealth with this issue… or are dealing with it now. What did you do? What are you doing? I’m just trying to get a boost on my persepctive about it. I guess I just need to know I’m not in this boat alone and there is something to do that works. Thanks.

Radio Ad Script- Kettlebell Core Power

February 19, 2008

I have a friend who is a fire fighter and when we get time we’re going into the studio to record this spot. He’s excited about it. So am I.  He’s agreed to invite to the fire house soon for a  grueling “session” of swings and assorted other comfort busting exercises with their set of KB’s they have on hand including the 88 pounder!!!!  I think I’ll just watch if anyone is feeling energetic enough to pick up that beast.

* * *

Anncr: Paramedics, fire fighters and police officers can’t ever be 100% sure they know what they are walking into.  Besides their job requiring sharp and quick mental agility, it also requires physical stamina and power.

V1: I’m sure kettlebells have saved my back on more than one occasion because they have really strengthened my core// (simulated edited) The really great thing about Kettlebells is that they not only work the primary muscles of the stomach and back,  they work the deeper stabilizing muscles// (simulated edit) Seldom in this job when we lift someone or something heavy do you get a clean lift. There’s almost always some reason you have to twist or lean while you’re lifting. I’ve seen that lead to back strain a lot to the point that people had to take time off work, and I’ve seen people get hernias doing this job because of inadequate core strength// (simulated edit) I’d say this to anybody, if you don’t keep the core muscles of your body really, really strong, sooner or later you’re going to end up with possibly permanent injury.  Kettlebells are probably the most effective tool I’ve ever seen for doing that. We have two sets here in the station house and (big smile in voice) there is always somebody over there swinging them. (light chuckle)

Anncr: Kettlebells… look forward to better results.

Living with BALLS!

February 18, 2008

Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.

I found this saying reading crlgrl’s blog. It really rings true with me. Man, growing is what it’s really all about. I can seriously say that I MASTERED putting my life in the crapper. I’m surprised I made it through without causing serious damage. But I did. And that feels good. What I found out about myself when I took on "THE BALLS" (aka kettlebells) was unbelievable to me. It hurt like hell for a while, and they still can hurt if I try and have too much fun with them. But they helped me see that my body is tough… that my mind is tough too. That they are capable of being MUCH more than what I was doing with them.  They helped me know that man, there is something alive inside this human form. And that just lights me up! You know what I mean? It gives me reason and motivation to keep going on. To find out what this is that I was getting in touch with. And was there more of it? I’m on a mission to find out. Hey, I have come from being a serious, probably fatal couch potatoe to almost getting the shakes when I go too long without taking on my kettlebells. When I take a grip on those warriors I always know that before I finish with them I am going to seriously be a more incredible human being.  I love them!
