Month of Pain

November 2, 2008

So, the 1st of Novenmer is here and I’m a month away from heading home.  This is it!  It’s time to kick it into HIGH gear and reach those fitness goals that I had for this deployment!  I want to leave here at no more than 215lbs and score a 270 or better on my fitness test for my annual evaluation.  For those of you that don’t know what the Army fitness test consists of, it’s 2min of push-ups, 2min of sit-ups, and a 2mile run.  You get a maximum of 100 points in each event and, for my age group, I need 77 p/u, 81 s/u, and a 13min 2mile to max.  My problem has always been the 2mile run.  I’ve never been a fast runner, but a couple of years ago I severely broke my right lower leg in 4 places.  It has caused me a lot of pain ever since.  I run an average of 16:45 right now, but my goal is to break 16:00 which would give me 70 points in that category.  The cardio is there, but the pain slows me down.  I think the weight loss will help with that… time to stop being big n trim down.  Wish me luck!

How do I train legs w/o making them bigger?

October 6, 2008

So here’s my quandry… I don’t train legs, but they are essential to your overall physique.  Legs are one of my genetic strengths, and they’ve always been relatively big.  I want to train them, but I’m in the Army… big legs equals slow run.  What can I do to shape my legs without making them bigger… any suggestions?

Starting to feel a little better…

October 6, 2008

So, I’ve seen the head shrink a few times, and got some sleep pills.  Now that I’m getting some much needed rest and getting to the gym more, I’m starting to feel better.  The muscle is hardening again, and the strenght is coming back.  I still feel wore the hell out a lot, but I’m pushing through.  I’ve decided to try a suppliment stack recommended by a friend, so I’ll keep y’all posted on how well it works… I’ve taken my before measurements and posted them, and I’m 4 days into the pre-cycle supps.  I’ll try n get some good before picks in the next couple days… wish me luck!

Blog Entry

September 28, 2008

So there I was, in Iraq for the 5th time in 5yrs, spending my birthday thousands of miles away from home… sleep deprived, nights full of thougths of lost friends and events that I wish I could forget.  I turned the big 3-0, and was like… "holy crap!"  I started thinking about how much things have changed over the last 5yrs, like how I felt physically… I feel beat down and tired all the time, more aches n pains, and just plain less powerful.  I reached my lifes peak at 26, but have fallen far from that point.  I know, I know… I’m not whinning, and I certainly don’t think that it’s all over n down hill from 30.  I guess I just reach a profound realization that life will beat you down if you let it, and I had most definitely let it.  I want to feel powerful again, like I did when I was 26 and felt indestructible.  I’m really glad that I found this site, and have such a resource and network of people that many of are going through the same woes.  So, here’s to all of you out there that have reached the same point that I have… may we all feel powerful again!
