Live Fire Training

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Had a lot of fun yesterday, started out with 20 minutes on the stair stepper doing speed intervals. Then last night we had live fire drills. These drills are a great way to exercise because you don’t feel like you are working when you are actually pushing yourself to your limits. We start out by dragging a charge hose line to the door, mean while others are bring tools, thermal imaging camera and a fan. Once the team has assembled at the door we put our air mask on then force the door. Once in the door the first thing we see is fire I attack the fire then move down the hall searching rooms as we go. Finally, we encounter another larger fire, we attack it. The drill is over. As we walk out I notice that I am breathing deeply but I feel energized and strong. We reset and do it again. Oh, how I love my job.

Live fire training is the perfect test of fitness. It determines if your training is worth a damn. There is no point in pushing iron and running miles if it doesn’t help me on the fire ground. The good thing is I am noticing changes. I am feeling stronger and I am not wearing out quickly. So, I must doing things right.

All Back

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Yesterday was all about back. I had a great workout, no chit-chat just working the iron. I started with the dumbbell rows which really make me burn than worked my way over to the T-bar. From there I worked the lat pull down. This is something I have really been working hard and pushing a lot of weight. I really like it when my lats burn the next day. I then went to and worked the lower back and abds. I like to work those together because they are pulling against each other.

Yesterday night I went for a 30 min run through the hills. This is a great way to keep my body burning. This very important to help me reach my goal of 10% BF.

Man.. I am feeling it

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Ok, I have been working Hyperstrike for a little while now and the only thing I can say is Man, I am feeling it!!! I have tried a lot of workout plans and I even hired a personal trainer that cost me well over a $1000.00 and this workout is just as good and sometimes I would say it is better. Why? I do it when I want. With a trainer I must be there at a pre-determined time which is fine sometimes but then life happens and you try to reschedule but you can’t so they ding you with the fee. Also, you are the one working out so you can do that with a person at your side or you can do it with a workout printed out by your side it doesn’t change the fact that you are the one pushing yourself.

I have now organized a team for the 911 Fitness Challenge. We are all going to use Hyperstike to win. The challenge is a body fat/muscle gain challenge. It is done as a team of 3 to 5 people. The winners win $5000.00 and a trip to a UFC fight is Las Vegas. We are looking forward to kicking everyones but and getting crazy fit.

CHECKOUT MY BLOG AT http://roperslc.blogspot.com
Today I am on shift which always makes for an interesting workout. You never know if you are going to get through a workout but with Hyperstrike you can change a workout from strength to conditioning so if I get called out mid-workout I can go back to the station and get in a good workout in the bay.

This was the case today. I started at the gym pushing iron but got called out mid-workout. Lucky a lot of my workout was conditioning type exercises so after the call headed back to the station to cranked out the bodyweight squats. Man, those things kick my butt.

Warm Up:
Lateral Shuffle

Strength:
Wide-Grip Bench Press
Bench Dip — Feet Elevated
Lying Triceps Extension
Hammer Curl … Seated
Wide-Grip Lat Pulldowns

Called out to a call

Conditioning:
Lateral Lunge Touchdown and Thrust … Alternating
Squat Jump … Bodyweight
Walking Lunge Touchdown and Thrust
Walking Lunge Touchdown
Pushup — Feet Elevated
Bridging
Wide Pushup — Feet Elevated

Recovery:
Spinal Twist
Neural Mobility
Standing Elbow Flexion-Extension

Great workout and very flexible.

This broken thumb thing is slowing me down. I didn’t realize how important my thumbs are. I have taking advantage of them for too long. I can’t lift weights, I can’t grab bars, this sucks.

With this down time I am going to focus on my conditioning, cardio and nutrition. So, in reality I am still busting my gut and working hard. One of the many cool features on Hyperstrike is that I can change a strength workout to a conditioning workout with a click of a button and no matter what I know I am going to feel the next day.

I have been reading the nutrition articles on Hyperstrike and I have changed my whole out look on nutrition. Check it out: https://www.hyperstrike.com/my_articles.aspx . I am using new software to track my nutrition. It is called Weight by Date. You can enter what you have eaten then you plan ahead. I think it is cool. I just started using it I will let you know if it works well.

Tomorrow, I am running and then doing a Hyperstrike workout. I will let you know how it turns out.

God Bless,

Chris

Hyperstrike– Killer Workout

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

While writing a paper in my health class I stumbled on to a killer new fitness site called Hyperstrike.com. This is the most amazing fitness site I have ever seen. Basically you enter your information and what you want to do i.e. football and the site will create a custom workout for you. The site has amazing videos that show you how to do the exercises. I did a workout today that floored me. The workout was a bunch of new exercises I have never done before which is good.  At first I wasn’t sure that they were going to work me very much but by the end I was a huge fan.

Check it out:

M.I.A

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

I have been MIA (missing in action) for a few days. I have had this nagging pain in my left thumb so I finally went to the doctor and it turns out that I broke it and now the broke piece of bone is impinging the joint. I now have to go see a surgeon about getting the piece of bone removed. FUN.
