PT SWAT Style

Friday, December 7th, 2007

SWAT On Wednesday had SWAT training we always do some form of PT sometimes we play football or basketball. On this day changed it up with good result. We played tornado which is a basketball game  but if someone got out that person had to do some type of bodyweight exercise until everyone else was out which could up to 5 minutes, for example: bear crawls, run stairs then push-ups, superman, lunges, push-ups, sit-ups, run sprints or etc. This was great fun and a ton of work. We pushed it hard leaving nothing behind for over an hour.

Live Fire Training

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Had a lot of fun yesterday, started out with 20 minutes on the stair stepper doing speed intervals. Then last night we had live fire drills. These drills are a great way to exercise because you don’t feel like you are working when you are actually pushing yourself to your limits. We start out by dragging a charge hose line to the door, mean while others are bring tools, thermal imaging camera and a fan. Once the team has assembled at the door we put our air mask on then force the door. Once in the door the first thing we see is fire I attack the fire then move down the hall searching rooms as we go. Finally, we encounter another larger fire, we attack it. The drill is over. As we walk out I notice that I am breathing deeply but I feel energized and strong. We reset and do it again. Oh, how I love my job.

Live fire training is the perfect test of fitness. It determines if your training is worth a damn. There is no point in pushing iron and running miles if it doesn’t help me on the fire ground. The good thing is I am noticing changes. I am feeling stronger and I am not wearing out quickly. So, I must doing things right.

Motivation

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

Today I started a 104 day (12-3-2007 to 3-17-2008) transformation program. I will be starting the police academy March 17, 2008 and I want to be ready. I have not been very consistent with my fitness program. Recently I have been better at making sure I get to the gym 3 to 4 times a week but my nutrition has been horrible. My goal over the next 104 days is to buckle down and final reach my goals. I believe I haven’t reach my goals in the past because I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my time, my sleep and my love of good food to reach my goals. Also, I choose to workout only when I was in the mood so in other words I have had a bad attitude toward my fitness. I think like most procrastinators I feel like there is always tomorrow. I now coming to a realization that today is the only day I got to get one step closer to my goal. I also I have come to realize that I have to want to do it for me and for me the reason I want to get in shape is to feel strong which makes me feel safe. I want to know that when I need the fitness it will be there and lastly, I want to feel confident when I am sitting by the pool that I look good and not like some slob.

My Goals:

  1. Bench Press 225 10 times
  2. Run 1.5 Miles in 11:15 minutes
  3. Push-Ups: 100 in 2 minutes
  4. Sit-Ups: 100 in 2 minutes
  5. Pull-Ups: 10
  6. Body Fat 15 %
