Hey mate- just stumbled onto your blog. Looks like you're making huge gains, sounds really good. I'm not quite up there yet, but something to work towards! Well done for progress so far.

I have a bad back due to deadlifts and don't do them anymore (though I really want to). I am tall and it is hard on my lower back as well. If sumos are working for you then go for it. They work slightly different muscles but as trixter says other moves can easily make up for this. I weight lift with my wife sometimes so I can sympathize with you. If you are working out in the gym the simplest thing to do is have 2 bars on the ground going at the same time. one with your weight and one with your partners weight. I recommend loading the bar on the ground and keeping it there. This will take all the awkwardness out of it and risks of injury. The only deadlifts I do are straight legged with dumbells. I find these ones don't affect my lower back?? But of course these focus on your hams. Do what works for your body and don't be afraid to ask people in your gym what you are doing right or wrong (make sure they know what they heck they are talking about) and last case scenario, take a movie and we would all be happy to comment on form as bb.com.

You may like this article for some ideas for various deadlifts depending on what your goal with them is: http://www.t-nation.com/article/bodybuilding/dissecting_the_deadlift&amp;cr=

Sumos are great for hitting the inner legs and glutes more, which are often neglected. Its not hard to make it up for the rest of the legs with front squats or close stance leg press. Keep at it!

Nice work on the dumbell incline press and the pullups. Your racking some good numbers. For shrugs I use straps so that I can really hit my traps without loosing my grip. I do this for back to, I find I can do an extra 20 lbs or more with straps, this means more growth.

in reply to my blog
You are absolutly right, I am at 40/40/20. What do you mean by fitday? I am meeting with a trainer and he is kicking my ass with heavy weights to grow more muscle and then i am doing cardio 3 x per week for 30 mins. When I first started eating like this I was starvign and I would just drink more water or have a protein shake but I think that my body is getting used to it now. I look forward to my one chest meal a week and i am fine with just that. I am not really a junk food eater anyways so this diet isn’t hard for me.

You're totally right dude! Fat is not the enemy, carbs are! Look up the Anabolic diet, I think you can find a copy of it at scribd.com. Atkins and all of the other low carb diets are totally backed by research!

Look at the Eskimos, they have such a hige fat diet (blubber, seal, fish, etc.) and very low carbs (its not like they can make bread) yet they have some of the lowest risks of cardiovascular disease in the world!
