Boxing lessons today

So I have a client (and friend) who is an opthmaulogist.  He has a patient (and friend) who is a pro boxer.  I asked to be introduced so I can ask for lessons.  turns out he is a trainer as well.

Today was lesson one.  He likes to keep it cardio style.  So we met at dunham’s to buy some equip for me.  Now I have gloves, jelly gloves, and a jump rope.  

Jab, double jab, 1 -2, upper cut.  we did all sorts of combinations.  he likes my left.  I like to hit hard with my left.  I out it all into those.

then we did some heavy bag in rounds and some speed bag and I left with sore arms like you wouldn’t believe.  This is going to be fun.

First legs excercise in a long time

Not having a gym, and using limited space in the bedroom, I have been away from the big leg stuff.  No squats, just stairs and rollerblading.  I did put the 2 lb weights on my calves yesterday and today.  It does give great DOMS.  But not the same as real lifting with the legs.

So today, I did have some extra space among the tools in the new workout room.  so I did some lunges with 45 lb db’s in hands.  Just a set of 10 to each leg, really felt good to burn.  I will know about it tomorrow.

Did 5X5 arnold presses and 3X10 shrugs with the 45’s.  I saw some extra 10’s at the store the other day.  I need two more to be able to put together 55 lb DB’s.  and 6 more for 65 lb DB’s.  I know in the spring, when everyone is gung ho, I can get some 25’s as well.  so I should be able to put together some great iron over the next 8 months or so.

Another lesson in how to create DOMS

yes, I have found another way to do it.

Yesterday was rollerblading over 6 miles with an additional 2 lb weight strapped to each calf.  today is burning legs - DOMS. 

so if you want DOMS in your legs, I have found another way to do it.

Roller blading with weights

yup.  I strap the two pounders to my calves and hold the 6 pounders in my hands and then roller blade for an hour. 

It’s 1100 feet one way, and I do 30 trip for a total of 6.28 miles, with the aforementioned weights. 

Plus, I do curls, raises, punches, hold them out and do circles or just arms straight out for the whole 110 feet.  I do high steps or lunges with my legs. 

at the end, I have really burned it up.  my butt hurts.  In need GA to come and massage my butt and back and chest.  hint hint… just put your hands on me…. hahaha.

 ok, serious stuff.  the workout room is coming along great.  I too the 33 inch mirror from the powder room and put it in the kids bathroom (the powder room now has a decorative framed circle mirror, and the kids room will have shleves on the sides.)  and put the 66 inch mirror from the kids bathroom in the workout room.  next I will put the 92 inch mirror from my bathroom in the workout roomeven on one side and extending the 26 inches beyond the 66 inch mirror.  the longer mirror will be above.  then I will put the little frdge there where they are uneven. 

eventually, I will staple fabric to the walls like they have in the gym.  I want to seal some gaps in the board first. 

then I will clean and paint the floor and lay down some matts.  I need more weights and some steps and balls and kettle bells. 

it’s really easy to be motivated when you have your own workout room, and a paved street out in the country where you can blade and run and sprint.  we also have a public trail.  people walk, run, ride horses.  the total trail system is over 100 miles long when you connect every city’s trails.   interesting, if I take up running, the trail is the shortcut to Oxford.  Driving takes me out of the way because I have to go around the lake.

New workout room

The girlfriend suggested some changes to the living room.  It required a table from the basement game room.  So then the game room has a big hole in it. 

 I decided to clean the game room and then got the idea to put all the excercise equipment the wife brought home over the years into that room.  (for those not up on things, I am not LDS, the wife passed last year). 

Well, now that the machines are in there, why not bring down the weights and floor matts from the bedroom.  Tada!  I have a workout room.

I christened it yesterday with some heavy upper body work.  Volume sets.  40 lb db inclined presses -8X10, 20 db inlcined flies -10X10.  Bicep curls, rowing machine, pullups etc.  then an hour of roller blading and back for some repeats. 

This is going to be cool.  I still have a lot of work to do to get the room in order, but it is useable now.  There are some toys to get out, and the drywall needs to be taped and painted and there is still some board to hang.  I plan to use the big mirror from my bathroom for the wall, and get two smaller mirrors for my bathroom.  Oh, plus I get to put a desk in my room to get my personal stuff out of my office.

Exhaustion has set in again.

I hope to get through this one soon.  the workouts are for crap and getting things done is near impossible.  I feel like I need sleep, but I lay down and go a mile a minute in my head, so I get up and go watch the tube and nearly fall asleep, but won’t go.

Let’s see what is different.  A bit more stress as the business nears break even - the point of where I can survive on the income.  I ate some fast food - yes I did - sorry - yes it was gross, I haven’t eaten it in a year.  And the farts smell like the restaurant- ewww!  McDonald’s farts!  Gross!  I am eating a bit more sodium lately - severe cravings for chinese food.  Bought a box of 50 frozen mini egg rolls, doing 10 per day.  MMMMMMM!!!!!  Here comes the bloated tummy.

Ok, get on track this weekend.

Apparently, the rules are simple.  Passengers who are "big" get to pay for two seats.

Stewardesses who are "big" get to file a grievance and receive special treatment.

There needs to be a union for the sefl employed, so we can get benefits.

Power outage = workout

so when you work from home and rely upon your computer to get your work done, then the power goes out…   What do you do?

 160 perfect pushups.  80 normal, 40 wide, and 40 close grip

bent over rows, shrugs, db raises, pullups on the swing set, and roller blading for 45 min - be careful you don’t run over your daughter when she comes out to tell you the power is back on.

 Well, back at it….

long time between hellos to the bb blogaholics

myself included, though I have been on the wagon for a while.

so the home gym is becoming awesome enough, I am thinking to drop the gym.

I have a floor pad in the bedroom.  then I put a low shelf for the db’s.  next, I need to buy two new oval mirrors for the bathroom and then grab that big square one (7 x 3.5)  turn it upright and put it on my workout wall.

I was taking apart the swingset (kids are grown) and discovered it is great for pullups.  then I took the pull thing from the swing set and hung it from the beam in the basement and now I can do pullups in the winter too.

I have the perfect pushup so that works too.  and I found some chains and just need to rig them to the db’s for some great workouts. 

Squats and deads are done with db’s.  I have a big ball for ball excercises too.  it’s amazing what happens when you pull together a bunch of useless crap.

Body fat 6%

I haven’t had my body fat measured in a long time.  This morning, before water, my girlfriend did a 7 point teest for me.  She was trying to grab skin in some places and was complaining it was to hard to do that.

Anyway, the result was 6%.  wow.  I guess all the weight loss and high protein diet will do that.  I was always at 11 -15%  witha goal of 8%.  I went right passed the goal without even knowing it.

The only thing I did notice was my 6 pack was looking good the other day. 

So anyway, pretty cool.
