Still losing weight

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

TDetroit

I ate quite a bit of junk food yesterday and still lost weight.  There was a workout with the perfect pushup that takes a lot out of you, but still.

Today I did 3×10 bent over DB rows with 40 lb at a 25% bend, 2×10 at a full bend and 1×15 at a full bend.

I also did 3×10 DB raises at the same weight.

It is 12:30 pm, and I am way behind in calories, but no feelings of hunger, still nausea.  In the words of the Wako Kid, "Food makes me sick!"

i’ll try to do more weights today, but the couch is calling.  In a few min I am going to take a xanax and a lexapro.  these things don’t do anything but knock me out.  I don’t get how that is a good thing other than I am not thinking about stuff that I probably should be thinking about.

Still in a "the hole", still sitting on the couch.

I did manage to do 3 of the 4 supersets on the perfect pushup this monring.  Just can’t get off the couch to do that last one.

I ate better today.  Got my calories.  Had a shake for breakfast.  Left over Turkey, Stuffing and Potatos with gravy for late lunch.  and Tyson chicken nuggets and caramel popcorn just now for dinner.   Later will be icecream with rootbeer, maybe a slice of pie or some pizza rolls.  Hey, at least I am getting my calories, I can clean up when I climb out of "the hole".

I said her favorite prayer today.  for the last 3 days I’ve been wondering where her keys got lost to.  She was always losing things, and she would pray to St. Anthony:

St. Anthony, St. Anthony

Please come around

Something was lost

and needs to be found.

I said it, and walked into the kitchen, the keys were on the countertop next to a stack of her papers that were leaning slightly over top of the keys, slightly obscurring them.  I know I would have seen them over the last 3 days…

Teaching others to work out

Well, there is no mom anymore, and I can’t be 2 poeple.  My son wanted to make some soup.  He boiled the noodles, but couldn’t strain them because the pan was too heavy.  So I strained the noodles, but to the weights we went.  You need to use these 8 lb orange ones here.  When you curl, make sure you get your elbows in front of your hips, etc.

Then my older one was playing on the computer.   He was hunched over.  time to take a break kid.  let’s hit the weights and talk about bent over DB rows.

Today my friend from high screwel came over to give me outlet.  Gave her a hug, I could feel she needed her back adjusted, so I did it.  She said "wow, how did you know that was hurting?"  I just do.  You need bent over DB rows, at 2 different inclines.  90 degrees bend at the waist to hit the mid rhomboids where that adjustment is at, and 25 degree bend to hit the upper rhomboids and improve posture.

Where did I learn all of this?  It just keeps coming to me as I train my own body more and more.  come here to look things up, and go to other websites to learn physiology and endocrinology.  I can tell you about supplements.  did you know Enzyte is a perfectly logical supplement.  If it doesn’t work for a man, then he has a problem that needs a doctor.  It is an estrememly logical pill.  the target is the niacin.  they want to increase the niacin for the sexual health, the zinc helps metabolize that, but zinc inhibits the metabolization of copper.  the copper inhibits the metabolization of the zinc.  so, they came up with an idea.  overload the zinc and copper, add a bunch of niacin and pray the body repsonds.  it’s a cool idea.  it should work.  then to make it expnesive, they added a bunch of useless stuff.

do you think I am over researching everything I do?

I found a 30% comfortable place to sleep

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

TDetroit

It’s really nice that they let a family member stay all night in the oncology/hospice ward, but this pullout chair is 2 feet too short and a real painn in the ribs.

After 2 days of no sleeping, it still wasn’t difficult to pass out though.

I had midnight pizza, and before that was some questionable "meat"loaf with groovy stuff on top. Before that was a pizza.  hey that’s all they have in this place.  In the Detroit area, this hospital was built on a county line in the northern suburbs back in the 70’s.

my mom was the first ER patient - she was getting brownies out of a pan with a knife and shoved it through her hand.  The Doc said, "You are Italian right?  Ever heard of a spatula?"  She runs into him around town once in a while and they laugh about the spatula joke.

Anyway, the location on a county line where one is red and one is blue, has put a strain on development, the blue county, for years did not want the red county to have the successful hospital, so developers were shunned from development on their side of the road.  The red county did not want to create defacto need in the blue county, so they also allowed very little development near the hopsital.  Fianlly, just recently and after 30 years, the hospital agreed to buy the land opposite in the blue county and build a hospital there with a bridge across so it’s 1 hospital in 2 counties.  Now we are getting development nearby, but there aren’t enough restaurants nearby to warrant warming up the car in 9 degree weather and travel out at 11 pm to find food.  So hospital food it is.

wasn’t that a long round a bout explanation of the bad food I am forced to eat.  lot’s of fun.  goodtimes.

how is it that the hospital is the most unhealthy place to eat?  all they have is processed foods and carbs.

talk about a business racket.  a person comes in sick, and they feed death to the family members to get them to check in too.  fried burgers, mercian cheese, "meat"loaf with groovy gravy, mayo, corn chips and creamy cheddar in a cup, cake, pie, etc.  Don’t get me wrong, the tongue loves this stuff, the mind is about to pop.

then there is the food they give the patients.  on the surface it all sounds good.  chicken and rice soup - with too much salt; chocolate cake (well cancer patients have to get lot’s of cals of any sort to live - my wife hasn’t eaten in 12 days); canned beans - fuey; usually a piece of chicken with with some sort of suspicious groovy, today is rigatoni (i’m Italian so fuggetabout it).

aaagh!  this place is a death machine.

TDetroit

we got 2 gift certs for a brunch in Oxford at kalloway’s.  they do this every sunday.  good food.

I tried to stick to the protein, but the waffles got in the way.  I had scrambled eggs and bacon.  then waflles with strawberries.  then an omellette.  then meatballs and groovy.  then shrimp.

now I want to sleep instead of going to the gym.  maybe I can push that off to later in the day.

Supino’s Pizza - Detroit

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

TDetroit

Long day, went to a client appointment this morning, then to Jackson (yuk) MI to do something, and then I am supposed to have a meeting in downtown Detroit tonight.  but I am … oh… 4 hours early.

so I get to the parking lot and the south end of Eastern Market.  corner of Russel and Fisher.  I see the restaruant we are meeting at, but across the street I see Supino’s Pizza.   hmmmm.  I have 4 hours.  let’s give it a whirl.

so I am eating, and I think, "hey, I have a friend who moved here from New York City."  I once asked him, what he misses most about New York.  He said, the pizza.  so I called him.  This pizza is close to New York style.  he was impressed already, if it’s worth an emergency phone call, it’s worth checking it out.

I had 2 pepperoni slices.  then they came by and gave me a free slice of the newest creation.  Potato and Rosemary with mozzarella, and feta.  potatoes… eh.  I rated it as good, but the potatoes, if they are too big, can be overwhelming.  I suggested sutting them small so you can taste the rest and not just the potato when you bite one.

This is some damn good pizza.  the kid who works there goes to colleege in New York at Merrimont.  he agreed, this is close to New York, but still Detroit style.

Now I have just 3 hours to wait for the meeting to start.  watching the olypics at the bar

12,000 calories a day

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

TDetroit

lead article on yahoo this morning.  Michael Phelps worksout 30 hours per weeks and typically eats 12,000 calories per day.

DAYYUM!  I feel like puking at 3500 calories.  that’s just plain nuts.

hope he learns to adjust when he retires, otherwise he’ll need our encouragement to get back down to lean.  (I have to say, we a bb.com have a great record so far of helping folks get the fat off and get happy about their bodies - and booties [you didn’t think I could blog without mentioning sex did you?])

Rejected by the red cross

yup, I am now an "indefinite deferral".  high hemoglobin.  actually off the chart.

usually the cause is iron.  so I started to think about it.  where was I getting iron.

at the store, I was picking up my normal stuff and checking it for iron.  most seemed normal stuff.  maybe when you put it all together, it might add up to be too much.

then, there it was.  frosted mini wheats.  they are very good for you: fiber, complex carb, etc.  but the iron is 90% of the RDA for a 2000 cal diet - close to mine.  that’s a deal breaker.  after eating that, i can’t eat anything else for the rest of the day, because it’s too much iron already.

so now instead of rotating 3 cereals, I will be rotating only 2.  I thought the raison bran would be high in iron, i thought the raisons had iron, but it’s only 25% of the RDA.  Cheerios is only 45%.

Remember, it’s only a problem if you have high red blod count, or hemoglobins.   if you are normal, eat some mini wheats for me.

Waffle Breakfast

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

TDetroit

We had a supplier come in to the office this morning and make waffles for us.  mmmm.

He mixes up the batch at home, and brings in his waffle maker and some berries and whipped cream and syrup (and some of that nasty butter but not butter stuff).

I know it’s a lot of carbs and sugars, but it has all those healthy berries (anti-oxidants and stuff) - so I had 2
