it turns out, I am not yet ready for 3 sets of 60. instead, it is still 2 sets of 60 and 1 set of 50. still, after 4 days, that’s 790 situps. averaging about 200 per day.
theoretically, tomorrow I will do another 340 situps and total 1130 for 5 days, which is 226 per day. so the average is going up and I am getting there. 17% by end of the day tomorrow. by the time I finish with the weekend, I expected to be getting toward half done in week. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I’d like to get 3 workouts of 3 sets of 60 each day, that’s 540, for 1620 for three days. So I will be near the half way point. Then next week, I can push it to really up it, and get to almost 6000 by the end of the second week. at this rate, I am planning on 16 days for 6000

Did 170 situps this morning. That makes 620, and I will have time tonight to do more sets.
I incresed the set size to 60 from 50 this morning, and then did one more set - but it was only 50. I’ll try to get 3 sets of 60 tonight, that will bring me to 800 which is 200 per day. I’ll need to get to 500 per day to get this done in a reasonable amount of time, and near the end, i’ll have to be doing 800 per day.
I wonder what my gut will be like when I get there.

still working on getting the numbers up.
doing 2 sets each morning and each night. sets of 50.
tomorrow, I will move to sets of 60, and try to get in 3 in morning and 3 at night. i’ll need to ramp up to get to 6000 in a reasonable amount of time. the endurance is the part that is killing me.
i can’t do any during the day, because I wear a suit to work. it is impractical. so it’s just morning and night, and I’ll have to be at sets of 100 by the end.

the idea is to see how fast I can do 6000 situps. Well, I am behind off teh get go. Just 24 hours in and I am only at 350. Plan on another 50 real quick at lunch, and then some more tonight.
I’ve never done situps for volume before, so I am starting to get soreness like running a distance when you are not used to it. Hopefully that will go away.
I would like to accomplish this in 2 weeks, but that is looking not so good - unless I put the hammer down and start hitting these every hours.
Maybe by the end, I’ll be doing sets of 100. that would make it easier for any future attempts at something like this.

starts tomorrow. starting at 8 am eastern standard time (you do the math). first one to 6000 situps wins. let me know if you are in.
you know someone will get it done in 12 days, but if you can’t do that, it doesn’t matter, do it for yourself. that’s the only person you need to impress.
Come on, let’s go!

I’ll post a few times so more people can join.
I always wondered how long it would take to do 1000’s of situps. So I chose the number 6000.
Here’s the challenge. Startng Sunday morning 8am easter Standard time (you can do you own math), you start doing situps daily. keep track of your progress. first one to 6000 wins.
It’s the honor system, so don’t claim anything people will laugh at you about.
Only people with pics can participate, the rest of us need to scrutinize your body to see if your claim is believable.
Situps are done flat on the floor, but if you want more difficult variations, that’s up to you.
You are allowed to lock your feet down - under the couch or furniture, have someone hold them, etc - I don’t want this to be a contest where everyone does 20 situps per day until Mitt Romney’s first Christmas as President.
those are the rules. let me know if you are in.

At the gym on Sunday, I was between sets of 315 on the squat rack. I had looked around for a spotter, but couldn’t find anyone I though was big enough to spot 3 plates. So I said, WTF, I’ve been doing 3 plates for almost 6 months, and I am doing 3×5 at 315, so I should be able to handle it.
Anyway, I was taking a break, and I noticed that several guys kept looking across the gym in my direction. If I looked at them, they turned away. I thought they were like me, when I am resting, I am real intense and I look but don’t see, if someone looks back, I realize I am staring and I turn away.
Now, I know it is far fetched to believe that every one is as nutty as me. (I wish, then I wouldn’t feel weird talking to the nutcases instead of talking to myself). So, I have been thinking about this for a few days. Was it the plates? If you look around Lifetime, it’s family place, so you don’t get the bigs you do in other places. Lifetime is about family health. Almost no one ever puts 3 plates on the bar. Some of the biggest people put 3 plates on the leg press (I put 5).
It occurred to me these guys were staring at my plates. Most were probably wondering how someone as small as me could even possibly think of squatting 315. They were probably thinking to run over and scoop me off the ground when I put it up and stepped back. and then I did 5. It is not common at Lifetime for soomeone to go heavy. We hve a few who grab db’s off the end of the rack, but there’s a lot of dust down there.
Amazing, someone actually thinks I am big. I should invite Fern and GA over to show them how to lift. Of course I would have to act like I was hurt so that no one would know they can lift more than me…

let’s review:
each block is 80 lbs
each is carried by first doing a bent over row, press it to your body, hold back muscles tight and walk, then gently set down
the walk is up a hill, across a small opening, and down some steps
setting them down is in a pile to use them when ready
when ready, do a bentover row, and wlak to the wall, set down
use forearms to position the block
some blocks have to be picked up and re-positioned.
that about covers it. 1 total body workout and the the patio is getting better looking all the time
a few more weeks and the picnic table will be in place
I just wish my little helpers (sons) weren’t always at friends houses. I could use them for the 6A and the slag

I don’t know about everyone else who logs on at work, but I am going bananas. It’s probably just the quadruple espresso from Carribou (they asked if I wanted the extra shot, so I said yes, now I need a spatula to get myself off the ceiling).
Anyway, I want to be in the gym. I want to push to higher numbers. I want to reach new heights. I want to leg press until I see double. I want to grab the T-bar row and hook up all the other machines to it, and then row that.
OK, skinny guys can dream too.
I was thinking about the purpose of human existance the other day. It comes down to 2 things.
1. Have sex. Speaking metaphysically, and ignoring morals, ethics, and self actualism, we really have a purpose to procreate. I for one have done that alreaady. Not ready to close my half of the baby factory, but there a bunch of little versions of me running around turning people’s hair grey.
2. Lift weight. Knowing what I now know about hormones. The more we lift, the more hormones we produce. Ergo, as hormone factories, our purpose is to produce hormones, and we are more productive when exert physical stress. Witness the opposable thumb. Do bears lift heavy weights? No, they push, but do not lift. Do rhinos lift havy weights? NO, the push but do not lift.
Do humans lift heavy weights? Mostly no, most are too lazy, but in fact we can lift heavy weights with training. what allows to lift heavy, the opposable thumb, and our size. (the other animal with an opposable thumb is too small to lift heavy - raccoon) So, we have the tools (opposable thumb), we are made for it, and thanks to the internet and and sitting behind the desk typing blogs, we now have a community of people here at bodyspace who need to get to the gym….
WHAT ARE YOU DOING READING BLOGS?? THOSE WEIGHTS AREN’T GOING TO LIFT THEMSELVES! GET TO THE GYM, AND GET TO WORK!

Went to the Genesis concert at the Palace of Auburn HIlls last night.
Great concert BTW. Those guys rock waaaaay more than I expected. Second loudest band I have ever seen. (Night Ranger was the loudest - couldn’t hear for 3 days) I’ve seen a few whom you would have expected to be extremely loud - Metallica - but Genesis was louder.
Anyway, I went in at 20 on the count. Turns out the Genesis fans don’t qualify. Added none at the concert. But…… welll we will get to that in a minute.
At the gas station was 1 cutie, and then I passed a postal carrier on Woodward. Only a 7 out of 10 if she was walking down the street, but in her Blue shirt and driving that Red, White and Blue box truck… well, there was something sexy about that whole thing. Plus 2 more here in B-Ham, that makes 24.
Now back to the …. incident….
Did you see the movie Major League? There was a woman in the stands at the Cleveland stadium. A rather large woman. She was also in Naked Gun 2.5, I believe she fell over the railing in that movie. Well, she was at the concert, at her normal place, front row second deck. Precipitously dancing and threating to go over the railing again.
Unfortunately for me she was in my periferal vision. And she was quite distratcting. She was shakin’ what she…. got. The guys right behind her were bvery annoyed. Now I am not normally one to comment negatively on overweight people. People are overweight for many reasons. However, I do expect people to have a level of consciousness, and at the risk of sounding like Marty Morninweg (spelling), I have to say, "the bar is high!"
Clearly she must know of her condition. Clearly she must understand that clothing does not help improve the attractiveness. The only thing that can help is to live the bodybuilder lifestyle for a time, in an effort to bring things back into line with what is viewed by most of the world to be healthy. In any event, assuming she understands all of this, she should not be in the front row, second deck, shakin’ what she…. got!
I found it annoying and exhausting. So here is what we are voting on.
Can we deduct CHILFs for accidently viewing such a woman? Note the conditions here would have to be strict, this is Michigan afterall. It would not be enough to see an overweight person, that would only lead to me committing time to the couch and Bon Bons. It would have to be an overweight woman doing something unbecoming of an overweight woman. In the event I should run across one of these, should I deduct 1 CHILF from the count?
