I tried the 600 pushups in one hour

you start a stop watch, and do ten pushups.  then when the next minute ticks over, you do ten more pushups.

every minute that ticks over, you do 10 pushups.  this totals 600 in one hour. 

I only got to 130 pushups.  probably could’ve done 2 more sets - maybe 4.  I was just expirementing this time.  I’ll try again for real and let you all know how I did.

In the future, I’d like to do something with situps and pushups all in one day.

Situps like pushups

have you heard of the 600 pushups in one hour bit.

You start at the top of the minute.  do 10 pushups, and then rest for the balance of the minute.  when the next minute ticks over, you do ten more pushups.  do this for one hour, and you’ve done 600 in one hour.  your arms will be like jelly, but you did it.

well I attempted something similar with situps.  I figured 25 situps per minute for 10 minutes.  what I learned is that you definitely cannont shortcut the workout - at least if you are a beginner to it.  I did 25 per minute for 5 minutes and then 20 in the next minute.  I was done. 

today I will try doing 15 per minute and see how long I can go.

I lost count

It is day 14 of trying to do 6000 situps in as short a time as I can.  I lost count.  It was 2680 before,  but I can’t recall how many i’ve done the past few days.  Lot’s of stuff going on:  working late and long hours with clients, taking care of the wife, nearly got arrested for trying to bash someones head with a bat, taking the kids to soccer.  In between all that, I did a whole bunch of situps - actually it was easy to do them with all the bottled up anger I have right now.

I found out I owe a fine.  I am not going to pay it, because I am not the one who did the crime.  In a round about way, this means my wife will die a horrible death without health insurance.  But that’s is the way her family wants it.  The bastards have put me in legal trouble, let them decide if it is worth paying my fines - if they can, but I will not right that check - no way.

It’s a stand off, they honestly believe they can let me rot, they apparently don’t see how this works, I am totally ready for her death, they still believe they can have my money and her.  It doesn’t work that way, the health insurance is mine, if no one pays for it, it goes away.  Since they have my money, the choice is theirs. 

As you can tell, I am quite pissed off right now.  check me later.

Day 11, before workouts

I’be been too busy to blog, but I did a few sets of situps.

Monday was 200 and Tuesday was 300 = 500

So I am at 2680.  Still have wednesday workout to go, so day 11 is not done yet.

Day 8, my first 500 situp day

I finally did it.  500 situps in one day.  that makes 2180 since I started 8 days ago. 

I feel great, but I will stop for tonight anyway.  I can do 500 more tomorrow. 

will it take only 14 days to do 6000?  I don’t know at this point, but I will still try to make it.  If I can do 500 per day for 6 more days, that’s 3000 so I will still be short by 820.

still need to step it up.

The second Great Flood of Leonard

in 03, I was at my folks house for dinner on saturday.  I had bought a new laundry tub and a cabinet for the laundry room.  we got home late, put the kids to bed and I went ot work on the new cabinet.  got that all set up, cut out the countertop for the new drop in tub, and then… looked in the box, the tub was cracked.

so, I watched Walker Texas Ranger and wnet to bed.

I the gloom of a 6am pre-sunrise, I lifted my head an looked out the window.  An old milk crate near a tree was just at teh foot of the rising water.  I set my head down on my pillow and 2 seconds later I was standing and reaching for my pants.  That thing is supposed to be 20 feet from the water line.  by the time I got to the basement door, the water was just touching the threshold.  We spent the day building a burm and protecting the house from damage.

It was at that time that I decided - instead of a flat concrete patio running out flat from the door to a yard, I would build a sunk in patio by creating a permanent burm.

It worked, today the water is back, but my burm is protecting the house.  who knows how high the water will go, but I have 3 feet mor protection to go.  the whole yard is under water though.

it’s not so bad.  I made lemonade with all these lemons.  I figured that old log I wanted to use as a bridge over the crick might be easieer to move in water.  and it was.  I put on my boots and a sweatshirt and waded out into the 2 feet of water.  I grabbed the log and pulled it to where the river is - i think.  the water over there was 3 feet deep when I shoved the log out to the other bank.

then I waded over to the over flow pipe.  that thing is currently 3 feet under water.  I checked it for clogs.  I’ll be doing that through the night and tomorrow too.

I picked my tomatos and grapes in the rain.  mmm the grapes are awesome.  now my clothes are in the dryer.  it’ll be fun protecting the house again.  pray for the rain to stop.

Day 7 upto 1680

I’ve done 250 so far today.  doing sets of 50.  really getting tight in the abs. number 49 is a killer and 50 takes it all out of me.

I have to go to a dinner soon, I’ll try to give it a go for a few more when I get back - would be nice to get to 350 for today.  Then tomorrow, I’ll get some done in the morning, and have to go to work on a basement for the better part of the day.  My cousin lives across the street from that house - they are having a birthday party for one of the kids at 4 pm - can you say taco bar?  I am there–

Update on the charity lift.

well, I did 350 bb squat.  the old max was 325.  (i know the profile says 379, but that is based on the calculator - clearly the calculator is wrong, because it was definitely 350)

anyway, the pledge came out to $681 for the Bittersweet Farm.   so far, this year, the farm has had a record with over 3700 pounds of food donated to the food bank.  that’s a lot of food, and the canned food remains on the shelf waiting for the winter months - a good thing.

the funny thing is that tonight, several people were congratulating me for doing this, while at a benefit to raise money for my wife to have some play money for somehitng fun before she dies.  so the charity wheel was rolling around.  Everyone was donating money to me, I was donating to the farm, the farm was donating to the food bank, the food bank is donating fresh veggies to the poor, the poor in MI are probably raising money for the victims of hurricanes Ike and Gustav.  Wow!

Day 6 Situp challenge

did 360 so far.  may do another set in a bit.  did 140  last night too.

so that is 930 +140+360 = 1430 to this point.  about 1/4 of the way through.  at this rate, it will take a whole month, but I got a slow start, and will finish much sooner than that.
