Annual Bronchitis is here

Friday, August 15th, 2008

TDetroit

it’s funny how the doc’s don’t beleive me and need to do all the workup and x-rays, then it is bronchitis.

then I say, "so, i’ll need a scripp for a z pack" and they are looking at me like "who’s the doctor?"

hey, when you get the same thing every year for 15 years (that’s how long I’ve been married - I used to get that once every 2 years, but we figured that is where the kids come from, so now we don’t do that anymoe) you start to know the answers.

12,000 calories a day

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

TDetroit

lead article on yahoo this morning.  Michael Phelps worksout 30 hours per weeks and typically eats 12,000 calories per day.

DAYYUM!  I feel like puking at 3500 calories.  that’s just plain nuts.

hope he learns to adjust when he retires, otherwise he’ll need our encouragement to get back down to lean.  (I have to say, we a bb.com have a great record so far of helping folks get the fat off and get happy about their bodies - and booties [you didn’t think I could blog without mentioning sex did you?])

Rejected by the red cross

yup, I am now an "indefinite deferral".  high hemoglobin.  actually off the chart.

usually the cause is iron.  so I started to think about it.  where was I getting iron.

at the store, I was picking up my normal stuff and checking it for iron.  most seemed normal stuff.  maybe when you put it all together, it might add up to be too much.

then, there it was.  frosted mini wheats.  they are very good for you: fiber, complex carb, etc.  but the iron is 90% of the RDA for a 2000 cal diet - close to mine.  that’s a deal breaker.  after eating that, i can’t eat anything else for the rest of the day, because it’s too much iron already.

so now instead of rotating 3 cereals, I will be rotating only 2.  I thought the raison bran would be high in iron, i thought the raisons had iron, but it’s only 25% of the RDA.  Cheerios is only 45%.

Remember, it’s only a problem if you have high red blod count, or hemoglobins.   if you are normal, eat some mini wheats for me.

Took another pic of my back

TDetroit

the one in the avatar is from Oct or Nov last year.

recently, everyone at the gym is asking me to spot.  well, the pic in the avatar does not look like someone you ask to spot.  I looked at the pic we took yesterday, and now I get it.  I ripped it up a bit.  Now I am seeing what everyone else is seeing.

Mom, look what I made.

I still see where there is a lot of work to be done, but it is better than it was 9 months ago.  I will post, hopefully tomorrow, a new avatar (forgot my camera chord)

the one annoying thing about the pic is that it is after I shaved my head.  so there is a white spot at my head.   I’ll either darken it up, or crop it.  it looks bad, I need a tan.

I did it. I shaved.

TDetroit

yup, I took it all off.

stripped down, stood in front of the mirror with the clipper in my hand.  closed my eyes, brought the clipper up and ran a line across the back of my head.

once you get past the initial moment of no return, it’s easy after that.  I mean you can’t walk around with a clipper line across the back of your head, so you might as well shave the rest.

it’s still a bit stubbly as I settle in to shaving over the next couple of weeks.  and it isn’t the same color skin, so I look a bit like ben stein.

it’s weird, every cool breeze of air is like ice.  an when I put my head back on teh head rest in the car, there is supposed to be something there other than skin.

well it’s done now!

Mayhem Fest

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

TDetroit

You may or may not have heard of it.  It is sponsored by Rockstar energy drink.
We had a show here in Detroit yesterday - and my sone dragged me to it.

The show started at 2pm with us waiting in line outside starting 1 pm.  We went in and my son found his T-shirt.  Dragonforce, the band he came to see.  they are from London and shred like crazy.  then he found another t-shirt for Disturbed.

We went and saw the fest sites, checked out a screamo band (that was unfortunate)

Then is rained

Then we went to see Five Finger Death Punch.  A good band.  2 songs sounded good - Shake the Pillars of Hell and White Knuckles.

Then we headed for the pavillion seats, just in time - because it rained  - a lot.

Mastodon came on.  Your apologies for me having to sit through that are welcome.

Dragonforce.  It’s a good band with good songs.  But I have to say the keyboardist and rhythm guitarist treat metal in a bit of a silly way.

Then we went to get pizza.  Here is where it get’s good.  Between the pavillion and the lawn is a walk area.  It was crowded.  We did the push and shove and got to the rest room area.  so we took that break and when we came out, the crowd had thinned.  We headed for the pizza line.  We were next to get pizza, and my son heard the band -Disturbed - announced.

Can you believe that rat assed bastard son of mine abandoned me to get the pizza on my own while he went  back to the seats to watch?

I did the dad thing and bought the pizza.  I headed back.  the folks on the lawn decided to have some fun.  remember it’s still drizzling a bit.  they started ripping the sod of the lawn and thowing it in the pavillion.  the folks in the pavillion started throwing it back.  dirt flying everywhere.  people running and holding their hand over the top of their beer (must protect the beer)

disturbed is a great band, with great music.  and the sod thing went on the entire time.  the folks in the pavillion started throwing it around and got it almost up to the stage.

finally.  the last band.  Slip Knot.  yup, the guys who wear the scary masks.  let me say.  that is some unbelievable s***!  Damn!  Talk about crazy.

… and  F bombs!  Now I know why I haven’t heard much of their music.  it can’t be played on the radio.  F this and F that, right in the songs, forget the concert talk.

9 band members.  2 guys who beat on beer kegs (sometimes with a baseball bat)  A drummer who started the show like some freak from outerspace.  The music can at time include rhthms that are musically … devoid of music.  when you put it all together, it sounds great and looks better.  a show like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

We headed home.  it was nice to put a tape in the deck and listen to some normal music… like Iron Maiden and Dokken

Friday night workout

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

TDetroit

started on the arc trainer - 5 min at 45 resistance = 87 cals.  good to get the heart up, but not too much

bent over db rows 10 at 65, 8,8 at 70

flat bb bench 7 with quarter reps at 135, 4,3 at 155 with quarter reps.  damn, the quarter reps really shorten your workout.  if you do quarters, you get the same workout, but you are in and out fo the gym in no time

db shrugs 10,10,10 at 75 - i guess it’s time to switch to 80.  I was going to do a set, but can you believe it, there was a line waiting for the 80’s - 3 deep plus the guy using them

hammer curls.  went for volume, didn’t get much.  10 each arm at 30, then 5 and 3 each arm at 35  - it must have been the bench and rows that wore me out.

db raises 10, 10 at 45

laying tricep extensions. 10, 7, 6 at 80 bb.  working to get the triple 10 and then move up to 85.  maybe I should add some volume reps at a lower weight.

abs.  a superset of lumberjacks and declined leg lifts. lj 30, dll 18 with twists, lj 21, dll 9.  at this point I was definitely done.

went to smokin’ joe’s cigar shop puffed a St Loius Rey for a couple of hours

Tuesday night workout

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

TDetroit

holy crap!  I learned a new way to create a burn.  it’s awesome.  get to that later.

Squats : warm up 1×5 at 135, 1×5 at 225.  then 3×7 at 315.  315 is getting easy, my spotters look board.  I am working on form and getting that last centimeter to get the quads level.

then I dropped to 235 and did 2×10.

Total weight lifted was 13, 125 lbs on the squat rack.  here is the kicker.  how to get a burn.  last time at the gym a guy was doing quarter reps.  he was doing db presses.  1/4 rep, then full rep. repeat.  I had to ask.  he said it’s awesome and really tears up the muslces.

so i did it on that last set.  holy crap!  i dropped down, did a quarter up, came back down, and then all the way up, repeat. when I got to number 8, I was burning.  quads, hammies, lower back, forearms holding the bar, calves.  everything was on fire.  2 to go.  down, quarter, down, up - my mind was screaming to stop.  down, get that last bit low- full level quad, quater, down, get to level- that last little bit, heave up.  it was awesome.

bb standing calf raises.  2×15 at 180.  this was the biggest i’ve ever done. and with the squats, I was on fire.

went to the benches.  lower back was dead.  no standing anymore, no bending anymore.

so I did laying extensions at 80, for 10, 9, 8

wrist curls at 80 2×15

that’s it.  I left it all on the gym floor.

home

btw, I won the election.  I voted for myself.  needed one vote to win.  small towns…

3 Day Weekend is over, tome to get to work

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

TDetroit

… those weights aren’t going to lift themselves.

Back to the squat program.  Last week was 12,170 lbs on the squat rack.  This week, going for and additional 315×5 = 1575 lbs for a total of 13745 lbs all in a half hour.

All I have to do is make a phone call, head home, vote (hopefully I will vote for me), head for home, eat dinner and head to the gym.  then off to the grocery store, and back to the township hall, get the election results, then back home to e-mail the county party of the results from my corner of the world.

In the mean time, tonight at the gym will be the aforementioned squats plus, calf raises, soe hammie excercises (haven’t decided what yet) and I missed some tricep stuff last week.

I’ll get back to the gym later in the week and get back on schedule.  3 day weekends are relaxing, but they sure do screw up a schedule.
