So everyone is all up in arms over the commuted sentence.
Let’s recap what happened.
Richard Armitage, a Democrat, who was Under Secretary of State, bragged to Bob Woodward (deep throat reporter - big liberal) that Valery Plame, a CIA Agent convinced the Administration to use here husband as a Special Ambassador for a mission.
Her husband, screwed up the mission, lied to the Senate, and was not arrested… But that is a different story.
Bob Woodward, told Scooter Libby about it. A few months later, Chuck Schumer accuses the Administration of trying to get back at Joe Wilson for botching the mission, by outing Plame.
A few months after that, Bob Novak confessess to the Grand Jury that he heard about Plame from Libby. Libby is called in to the GJ, checks his records and says he heard it from a CBS anchor who came to visit him. Bob Woodward hears Libby say this to the press, and then pipes up. Not only is he the one who told Libby, but he also verifies it in his new book.
6 months later, Libby is back at the GJ, and says he stands corrected, Bob Woodward is the one who told him.
Off to jail with you.
Now, it seems to me, that either way, Libby did not out Plame. It was public information by the time Libby new it. So why did we arrest him and go through the trial? His apeal is a no brainer, because he committed a nul crime. That’s when the original crime is not even a crime, so how could there be impeding an investigation?
BTW Plame was not a protected agent. Libby could have taken out a billboard in Times Square and informed the world of her status at CIA, and it would have been peerfectly legal. So, what gives?
