Cardio Queen

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Apparently I’m not very good at blogging on weekends so I guess I’ll have to do some back pedaling…

Friday I had one of the best workouts ever.  I ate half of double bacon cheese burger (which I took off the bacon and gave to my husband) from A&W for lunch so I was feeling pretty guilty when I left for the gym.  Well I guess all that guilt payed off b/c I totally went at it once I got there.  I ran (with a tiny bit of walking) 6 miles in under an hour!  First time going that far, especially in the time I pulled.  Super proud about that.  I probably could have kept going but Christian (my 8 month old) started getting fussy so I finished with 13 hard mins on the bike and the walk home.  Once I got home I worked on abs and did some push ups.  I really wish I had a home gym, but since I don’t I’m starting to get creative with different using-your-own-body-weight work outs.  If you have any great ones you know of, send them my way.  Thanks.
Sat was a bit of a lazy day, but I got an awesome new pair of running shoes for Mother’s Day so I took those out for a quick run on the track… very nice, very nice indeed.  I have visions of running excellence for these amazing shoes.  Finished the night with some dips and push ups (I can probably do 10 real push-ups now… sad by some people’s standards I’m sure).  I’m also starting to get a desire to lift with my legs so I also did some squats.

As for the bad part: With holidays comes delicious meals so I am guilty of a little too much alcohol and desert this weekend.  It’s okay though, I’ve decided to commit to 5 good days of eating clean (easier to do when the husband works) plus I have some pretty intense workouts in store for myself.  Woohoo!

Ciao!  Bacio!

What the hell, Man

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Normally I would not be awake at this time but my husband has a terrible cough that’s been keeping me awake for the last few hours so I did what any normal person not being able to sleep does, got on the computer.  As I was cruising around bb.com, I came across a terrible blog entry.  The composition itself wasn’t bad, but the message it had is what got me riled up (something I don’t enjoy being at 3:21 in the morning).

A seemingly nice (and attractive) man has been, for lack of a better word, jaded by women and a few of the relationships he’s had.  He claimed that he had never been anything but kind to women, but (to sum this up quickly) always ends up getting screwed.  This apparently led to some unnecessary and childish advice from friends to act like a chauvinistic pig because that’s apparently what women like, ultimately leading him to believe that they could be right.  Naturally, thoughts are racing through my head as I’m reading this blog, thinking about how awful that is and how childish his friends sound… basically chopping at the bit to respond to his blog… but before I can even do this I start reading comments from other BB members (women INCLUDED) basically confirming this terrible false information!  OMG, is this the ****ing twilight zone?  I mean seriously!  I’m only 23, but am I already an old fogey for cherishing things like devotion, kindness, understanding and nobility?

If that is true, then that makes me three things: 1. Thankful that I got married before the population agreed that men are better off acting like bastards  2. Saddened by the fleeting value of gentleman-like qualities  3. Sorry for whoever dates that guy’s friends.  So so so so sad.  And pathetic I might add.

Besides all that nonsense… the workout was kind-of eh today.  Normally I like to "kill-it" at the gym, but I’m pretty sure that the gym killed me.  Still got in a good amount of cardio but I’m not very enthusiastic about how lethargic I felt at the gym today.  Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.  And hopefully this blog finds it’s way to some man (or woman for that matter) considering compromising his character over some shitty experience and some bad advice.  That’s all.  I’m done with my soap box.

Cinco de Mayo

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

***First of all my computer is screwed up so this might have posted a trillion times.  Hopefully I fixed the problem… GRRR***
Today is Tuesday, which is good because that means that Monday is over.

To back track a little, the weekend for me wasn’t very productive.  Our whole family got sick so we ended up hanging around the house watching TV all day.  I did do one good thing though: a complete overhaul of all the shit we were eating.  If you read my previous blog you could probably tell that my diet was in desperate need of a makeover!

Yesterday I decided to go for my daily walk around the base (despite my workout parnter being in Venice).  It was increadibly boring considering that I was alone with my 8 month old who really only says dada.  I’m wondering if I’m going to keep up with that part of my workout once my friend moves back to the states.  I know, I know, a walk isn’t much of a workout but it is the catalyst to my real work out.  Once I’m out the house for my walk, after I drop my friend off at her house I’m right by the gym so naturally I’m already pumped to get over there.  UGH.  Self motivation is not my strong suit.

Ok, so I’m rambling now… not making much sense… more or less thinking (or typing) out loud, I apologize.  On a positive note, yesterday’s workout turned out pretty killer.  I walked 2 miles, followed by a 30 min run/walk.  When my husband got home from work I went to the REAL gym (as opposed to the piece of sh*t gym that only has 10 ghetto cardio machines, but I can bring my son to) where I worked out arms really hard (so sore right now), abs and an easy 13 min on the elliptical.  My abs aren’t getting sore anymore though… am I doing something wrong?  I swear that I’m increasing the intensity but still nothing…?  Pretty confused about that so if anyone has any pointers send them my way.  Thanks.  Well, I’m off to start my day.  Have to get to the commissary before all the Italians take the good stuff!

Thursday Afternoon

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Still haven’t figured this site out.  It seems like a complicated myspace for body builders (I think that’s what they’re going for anyway), but I’ve decided that I’m going to use this "blog" thing as a journal.  If anyone objects please let me know.

Tuesday turned into a giant disappointment to me.  My workout got rained out so I ended up hanging around the house… eating nothing but junk of course.  Just so I hold myself accountable, I’m going to admit everything I ate.  For starters I had grits for breakfast.  Followed that up with package of Ramen Noodles for lunch.  3 slices of Digiorno pizza for dinner (almost half a pizza), dipped in bleu cheese dressing (the good fattening kind) with a brownie and slim bear ice cream sandwich for dessert.  I know, I’m practically gagging myself.  It might not have been all bad after all because my workout Wed was great.  I was soooo determined to work off those extra calories.  I walked three miles.  Ran two miles in 17:10 seconds, which was good for me.  Ran another 3/4 mile, plus a little more walking.  Did some pathetic, half-assed abs (rolling eyes at myself for that one), but overall I’d say it was pretty good.

Today was another killer day at the gym.  I got a personal best on the 2 mile (16:38).  Some people might be laughing at me for this, but I thought it was awesome.  Had a two hour workout total.  Kicked ass and took names.  Thinking about going back for more tonight when my husband gets home so I can lift some real weights.  (Gym I go to during the day only has cardio machines and dumbells… sucky).

Well, I’m off to eat something healthy.  More later!

Blog Entry

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Ok… I’m just getting started on this site, so I’m not really sure what I’m doing yet but I’m hoping to catch on quick.  I am really interested in health & fitness so I’m guessing I’ll fit right in…

On a more personal level, my name is Magann.  I’m 23.  Married.  I have a beautiful baby boy.  He’ll be 8 months very soon.  His first two teeth are coming in and teething is a bitch (if I can say that).  I’m currently living in Naples Italy with my husband of 2+ years (military if you couldn’t already tell).  It’s crazy over here…  I seriously wish Italians knew how to drive!  I’m hoping to make it back to the beautiful US of A in the next year and half.  Man, I miss Walmart.  That’s really ghetto, but yeah.  I digress…

Anyway, I’m close to where I want to be as far as fitness level.  My endurance could use a little improvement, but my main focus right now is muscle definition.  I love the way working out makes me feel (and look, but that goes without saying).

The thing that initally led me to this site was my quest to find good supplements for women.  I have no idea where to start with that one, but I’m hoping to find some good advice on that topic, and maybe even some good work out tips…  Also something to keep me motivated other than the number on my scale and perhaps even a pat on the back from time to time (husband doesn’t understand my fitness passion… oh well).

That’s about it for now.  I have to get ready for 11:30 workout with the workout partner (workout part 1).  I really like this time of day.

To anyone who actually took the time the read this… sorry for wasting your time… lol.  Have a good one!

Welcome!
