Giants Sets vs Super Sets

I have switched my chest/back routine from a superset base to giants sets to break out of a rut. I wondered, though, if anyone else has seen a real difference. I saw a big hit in my lifting capacity due to the extra reps - but I do seem to get better pumps. In the over 40 range, not sure if there are specific areas of concern. I ask because I learned the hard way when i switched a routine from machine based to dumbells - I went just as hard and heavy - badddd idea.
